5 of 5 Parental Controls work Great Tuesday, November 13, 2007

I installed this and had to patch the firmware several times to get it upgraded to current firmware. I don't use the thin-client for virus protection, I only wanted parental controls. For parental controls alone I'd give it 5 stars. Every computer in the home has parental controls now (not just 4 of them... every one of them). This is because I never installed the thin client on any machine.
My one complaint would be this: I wish dlink would allow me to upgrade only parental controls in the future at a reduced price... and not all the anti-virus and other stuff. Plus the thin client wasn't ready for prime time on Vista when I purchased.
Again tho, if you ONLY want parental controls and have MANY computers in the home to manage(I have 9 of them) this little bugger is for you. And unlike the parental controls on my DGL-4300, this Dlink has never made browsing unavailable. It is rock solid.
If you plan to use the thin client, ignore my review since I choose not to use that. Was this review helpful?

I was looking for a "low maintenance" solution without keeping all of my PC's up to date with software, subscriptions, etc. The SecureSpot is easy to set up, a no-brainer. This is absolutely the best way to go. My kids are on the PC and while we monitor time closely, you just can't be everywhere. It even removes many offensive images from websites! I love Victoria's Secret as much as the next guy, but please a little modesty every now and then would be welcome! No problem, D-Link zaps a lot of that. The parental controls and admin tools are awesome. This gives you all of the PC protection you could ever ask for and more. If you have kids and want to keep them innocent on the web for as long as possible you need to buy this product. You won't be disappointed. Was this review helpful?

I like D-Link products and have purchased many componets in the past. So, I had no problems with pruchasing there Secure Spot. The installation process is 1-2-3 and your done with no issues. The rest of the security settings are done through your web browser, which is great. However, I have noticed some changes in my computer performance since installing hooking the device up. Sometimes, my mointor says there's no signal, I turn the monitor off an on, and still no signal. Then I have to unplug the computer in order to do a reboot, the web pages load a lot slower then before, sometimes applications start to act very weird. The good thing I like about it is, my network is secure. One of my children's friends came over with their laptop and normally they can jump on my network with out a password. Now, they couldn't get on at all, I can do a lot of web filtering on words or websites. All and all, its a very good product. Was this review helpful?

After years of spending hundreds of dollars and countless hours to protect my home office computers from the web, someone does care. I thought it was too good to be true, until I opened up the box and plugged in this little black beauty. After the simple registration process, Parental Controls where up and running. After installing a small Thin Client on the computers AV was ready. Funny thing is it took me longer to uninstall all of the software I had installed on one computer then it took me to set up all the computers on my network. If you are looking to save time and money on protecting your small network then this device does it all. But if you enjoy spending money and hours installing and updating your security software then stick with the other option. Was this review helpful?
