SAFELY SHARE DIGITAL FILES LOCALLY AND OVER THE INTERNET
The D-Link DNS-323 2-Bay Network Storage Enclosure, when used with internal SATA drives, enables you to share documents, files, and digital media such as music, photos, and video with everyone on the home or office network. Remotely accessing files through the Internet is also possible with the built-in FTP server. Whether you are allowing access locally or over the Internet, keep data safe by only giving rights to specific users or groups. When configuring the DNS-323, you can create users and groups and assign them to folders with either read or read/write permissions.

This is ideal for an office environment with employee-specific sensitive data or for the home where you can ensure your children will only have access to age appropriate material. The DNS-323 will be available to any computer (PC, MAC, or Linux-based) on your network, without the need to install any software on the computer.

STREAM DIGITAL MEDIA CONTENT TO UPnP™ AV COMPATIBLE MEDIA PLAYERS
Back up your music, photo, and video collections to the DNS-323 for safekeeping. Then, enjoy the benefits of the built-in UPnP AV media server as you stream digital content to compatible media players (such as those found in D-Link's MediaLounge™ product line). This feature is highly convenient as it allows you to turn off a computer that would normally be needed for the same function.

PROTECTION, PERFORMANCE, AND FLEXIBILITY
The availability of four different hard drive modes (Standard, JBOD, RAID 0, RAID1) allows you to choose the configuration best suited to your needs. Standard mode creates two separately accessible hard drives. JBOD combines both drives in linear fashion for maximum space efficiency. RAID 0 combines both drives in a 'striped' configuration, which provides the highest performance, enabling speeds up to 23MBps-Read and 15MBps-Write (MBps: Megabytes per second) when using a Gigabit Ethernet connection. RAID 1 causes the drives to mirror each other, providing maximum protection. If one drive fails while configured as RAID 1, the unaffected drive continues to function as a single drive until the failed drive is replaced. The new drive will then be remirrored, allowing the DNS-323 to return to its full protection.

WHAT THIS PRODUCT DOES
The D-Link DNS-323 2-Bay Network Storage Enclosure, when used with internal SATA drives, enables you to share your documents, music, photos, and videos across the network and on the Internet so family members, friends, or employees can access them. This enclosure also allows you to create a central network point for backing up valuable files and the built-in RAID 1 mirroring technology protects these files from drive failure. You can also use this device to stream music, photos, and videos to UPnP™ AV compatible network media players.

ROBUST SOFTWARE INCLUDED
The included CD contains D-Link's Easy Search Utility. This utility allows you to easily locate the DNS-323 anywhere on the network. Once located, use the utility to map the hard drive(s) so they will appear in My Computer on your PC. Backup software is also included on the CD. This will allow the back up of valuable files from a computer to the DNS-323 manually, by a schedule, or in real-time. Real-time backups are a great way to safeguard against unfortunate accidents that may result in the loss of precious files.

D-Link DNS-323 Review
By: tech.co.uk staff - techradar.com Reviews
Published on: 7/4/2007 9:00 AM
The D-Link DNS-323 feels a bit cheap, but once installed, the drives are secure and protected. The twin-bay setup allows two 750GB hard drives to be installed for 1.5GB in RAID 0 or 750GB of entirely secure RAID 1 data storage....read the full review

5 of 5 Good Product for the money Wednesday, May 20, 2009
A Customer from Gilbert AZ

The install and setup was very easy. Everything went very well. The setup software was very easy to follow and installing the drives into the box was a snap. I have mine setup for RAID 1 and it seems to work fine.

4 of 5 Very Happy with it.....worth the money Friday, April 10, 2009
A Customer from Miami, FL
I've had mine for over a year now. Originally bought it as a network storage for pictures, music etc. Have two 500 GB harddrives mirroring each other for backup. When i bought a Mac decided to use it as my time machine backup. Changed it from mirroring to RAID0. It took some work to get it all setup, but that was because of the time machine settings, not because of the NAS. It made a little rattling noise when i first got it, but found out it was because of where i had it sitting.......was kind of uneven. Once i adjusted that it was fine. It's very easy to setup and use.

3 of 5 Pretty good product Wednesday, March 18, 2009
Sunil from WA
I ordered DNS-323 along with 2x 1.5 TB drives. Turns out that the unit that was shipped to me didnt have the latest firmware update. Without that firmware update, the unit will NOT recognize the 1.5TB drives and will not work with it. It took me a little to get the firmware & then update it. Apart from that the product is working great and performing pretty well. Oh, one other thing - file/drive sharing configuration, especially when you want different permissions on different directories is a bit dense. Once you figure out, it works fine. Overall, still a good value for money.

5 of 5 Glad I got one. Thursday, March 05, 2009
Ray from NJ
Had mine for abut two years now and it's a relatively silent little work horse. Did not set-up a raid scenario, I just mirror one 500 GB drive against the other with batch jobs that initiate from the individual PC's at home. Rarely requires a re-boot, and wakes-up fairly quickly. Feeds pics, video, and audio perfectly to all PC's across a 100MB wired LAN, however I am having some trouble getting it to play well with DNLA devices. Unit is relatively inexpensive for what it does. Setup was intuitive, and BIOS updates painless (however some updates require reformatting of the drives). As a print server it's flawless. This unit is very underrated. Highly recommend it.

5 of 5 Works as promised Tuesday, August 26, 2008
A Customer from Lowell MA
After upgrading the firmware this unit practically installs itself. I wish this was out ten years ago when all I did was reload windows and a zillion patches to get my system operating again, this almost takes the fun out of hosing your system. The Memeo software is not the greatest, a lot of better software out there

5 of 5 a good product to have Thursday, June 05, 2008
Mavis S. from Fulton, KY 42041
D-Link DNS-323 2-Bay SATA Network Storage Enclosure is a simple way to back up all your storage needs. There are some things you will need to know. If you are only installing one hard drive, be sure to place it in the right bay. The reason will become apparent if you ever add the second hard drive at a later time. Your modem lights and the D-link lights will continue to blink if volume 1 is not in the right bay. Secondly, the ftp server is a good way to share files with family and friends. Remember that if you are behind a router, that your family or friends will use your wan ip address and you will use your internal ip address to access the ftp server. All in all, D-link storage enclosure is worth the money and works right out of the box with simple instructions.

5 of 5 Gotta love this NAS Saturday, May 31, 2008
Tu from East Haven, CT
One of my portable USB/NAS hard-disk failed and I lost over a year worth of priceless pictures and videos of my kids and family. I vowed to never let this happen again. I've been searching for a NAS storage with RAID-1 (mirroring) capability for months and settled with this D-Link DNS-323. This product is stylish, very small, quiet, very easy to setup, and not very pricey. I recommend you to update it to the latest firmware from D-Link before setting up RAID-1. Overall, I'm very happy with it. It's money well-spent.

5 of 5 This NAS Rocks! Wednesday, February 20, 2008
Chuck from Mlwaukee, WI USA
This was a no-brainer to set up. Open the case, drop in the drives, plug it in to power and network and turn it on. XP machines found the new hardware. Used the install disk to format and set up for RAID 1...About 10 minutes total time!. Backup software (Mimeo) is not needed and there is much better out there in the real world as freeware.

5 of 5 Good Product Tuesday, January 15, 2008
A Customer from Utah
Had some initial setup problems, but I have been able to work those out and it's been working fine now. The only issue that bothers me is if there are videos in the folder you are pointing the iTunes server to, it will choke sometimes and require a restart to resurrect the web UI. I would defiantly recommend this to anyone. It's hackable to... :)

4 of 5 Good product Friday, November 30, 2007
A Customer from California
Installation was straightforward. I installed two Western Digital 500Gb Caviar drives, and was able to configure it for Raid 1 (mirroring). The device was found on the network and the web interface was easy to navigate to set up the NAS box. I have this box working as a network drive and doing backups of critical data from my PC with the provided Memeo software. The one issue I had was getting the print server to work. However, there is a Wiki on this product (do a google search on DNS 323) that had a working process to get the printer server working. I have not used this product as a media center or FTP server so I can't comment on that.

5 of 5 Best Home NAS Server Thursday, November 29, 2007
A Customer from Alamosa, CO
I tried using the HP MV20XX series and was shocked to find that it was dependent on the drive they sent out with the unit. Mirroring was pointless because if the drive they sent failed you still couldn't get to your data. Sent back to Buy.com (no problems) and ordered this one. Saved $100 and it runs as a NAS should (regardless of the drives you put in) - have had it running non-stop for about a month and no problems. Speed and reliability is great; I highly recommend it.

4 of 5 Fast, stable, not software installation--but does Wednesday, November 28, 2007
A Customer from Media, PA
fast in writing files, no software installation is required. But, have a few problems: 1) make files with name of foreign characteristics unrecognizable 2) the FTP users set up is intuitive and hard to use

5 of 5 Loads of Storage Friday, June 08, 2007
distanceblader from arlington, va
Didn't feeling like dropping a ton of cash but wanted something that I could upgrade with and this fit the bill perfectly. Added a 500MB drive and when I fill it up, I will add another. Linked with 2 computers, one using XP and one with VISTA. Both recognize it and can access it. Haven't had it long enough to take advantage of some of the other features but it was easy to setup out of the box.

5 of 5 More features than I expected... Tuesday, May 29, 2007
Redbeard from McKinney, Tx
I purchased this item with 2 500GB HDs to have a simple Mirrored drive for the digital pictures and movies of my son. Currently i've only got about 60GB of picures so i was surpised to find that i could create 2 volumes on the device 1 250GB mirrored and then the rest (500GB) spanned. This was a bonus for me as i have a very large MP3 collection that i needed space for but didn't want to "waste" Hard drives by having it protected with mirroring (I don't care if i loose it). There are only two things i would change on this NAS. 1. The front cover does not lock. I've picked it up to move it and it's fallen off. 2. The way shares are done you have to map to a folder inside a share not just the share itself. Ex: \\dns323\volume_1\shared instead of just \\dns323\shared More of a preference for me but i like the drives easier to read on my computer. Overall it works great.

5 of 5 Great Product Monday, May 14, 2007

The DNS-323 NAS is the best small 2 drive NAS I have ever seen. The initial firmware was buggy but DLink quickly updated it and no problems since. Love it!!!

5 of 5 Great once it's running Tuesday, April 17, 2007
Tom from NY
My first mistake was not following directions to the letter. They said to use Internet Explorer to connect to the device; I used Firefox. After struggling for a while, I tried it with MSIE - and it worked fine. Wouldn't think the choice of browser would keep me from formatting a hard drive. However, once it was formatted and I could get to the main control panel, I was able to update firmware with the latest version from the DLink site. It shipped with version 1.01; 1.02 has the comment "Improved web-interface performance with Firefox browser"... Installing the drives was interesting too. I bought a pair of Seagate 160GB SATA drives, which happened to be the sleek new 0.8"-tall drives, instead of the standard 1"-tall we're all used to. The DNS323 drive bays were expecting standard thickness drives, so they flop around a bit until the cover is back on. Once it was set up and formatted, I was able to push files to it quickly across my 10/100 network switch, averaging about 7.6Mbytes/second. It also can send out status emails periodically, great for remotely-administered setups with clueless users. I'm planning to try the built-in FTP server as well, but haven't done that yet. It may not be cheaper than using a leftover PC with linux as a RAID fileserver, but where time is money, and space counts, this thing is a winner. Real gearheads can play with modifying the system - check out http://forum.dsmg600.info/

4 of 5 Good value but not easy to see on network Tuesday, April 17, 2007
A Customer from Phoenix, AZ
I'm pretty happy with the box but it's not very easy to map this as a drive. The included easy search utility doesn't see it, and I've needed to download Network Magic in order for it to be seen on the network. I use my NAS hooked up to a DLink router and with 2 500GB Samsung drives in RAID1 configuration.

5 of 5 Works great with new firmware. Sunday, March 11, 2007
A Customer from Brooklyn, NY
Update your firmware right away. There are a bunch of fixes in the new firmware. I have it running with 2 x 500GB mirrored together. Not issues copying over 200GB of data to it. Works great so far.
