D-Link DIR-615 Wireless N Router

With my current router withering away from old age I decided to go ahead and upgrade to something a little more up to date. Being a college student, my main goal was to stretch my dollar. By purchasing this router with N-technology and wpa2 security I planned for this router to last at least 5 years. Of course with my luck, D-link had other plans for their router. Being very tech-savvy, installation was a breeze, or so I thought. For reasons still unknown to me, the router could never carry a wireless connection for more than an hour, wired worked flawlessly. With regular web-surfing the router would chug along nicely until the hour mark where it would suddenly loose its connection, requiring a reboot of either the router or the device. With heavier internet loads, the router fell to the ground even faster with youtube videos only being able to download halfway before the connection was dropped. No matter what settings I tried, or what firmware I used, nothing did the trick. Forcing me to eventually pack the router back up for return, giving my old router a few more days of life.

The router is working great now. Had to turn off some identity feature and lock down the frequency. Now is connecting fantastic.

Overall I'm very happy with the router. It has a great signal throughout the house (router is on the second floor in a spare bedroom). I use it with my laptop from the living room on the first floor-opposite side of the house and first floor front room with my desktop. My brother in law's iPod touch, Wii and X-box also connect with no issues. I've also now got a wireless printer on this network which is fabulous. Last week there were a few issues with the connnection, but reinstalling the router fixed the problem. However, the documentation is crap (really non-existent), and this is not a plug and play experience. I am a pretty tech-savvy individual and had to call in to tech support to get the router to work wirelessly. Online documentation was not very helpful either. Using it as a wired connection was no problem out of the box. Either they need to improve the included user manuals/documentation or improve the set up experience in some fashion for those who are not stubborn enough to stick with it and get it to work properly.

If you want your home network secure AND fast, then do not order this device. It is fast as long as you have security disabled, but with any type of security client machines will not get an IP address from DHCP. Even if you try to statically assign IPs, you still won't be able to access the network until you turn off encryption.

I researched the internet for a good wireless N and time after time, I came back to this one. It is listed in costco for like $20 more. This is a great deal and an outstanding wireless router. My last one was a wireless G and it would constantly disconnect. So far this one is great and much faster signal. Delivery was so quick. 2 days after I ordered. Definitely a great deal.

Install on Vista was a snap. Took only a few minutes. My second computer on the same floor and my kids Nintendo Wii one floor below picked up a strong signal from this router. Speed and signal strength is more than adequate. What more could you ask for $40 bucks?

This was a very great price for a great product. So far I have used this router with my XBox 360 & my Windows Mobile Phone. Setting up the router was easy, setting up the network, was not so much.

This is my first router. It was easy to set up and it has worked flawlessly so far. The price was right and I'm very happy with the service from buy.com. I would recommend the router to anyone, and will probably go with d-link again the next time I need one.

Although this is my 1st wireless router, this is the best router I have had hands down. I had it setup w/security and all w/in 5 minutes. It has been connected for about 3 weeks now w/o going out all (knocking on wood). My laptop is ultra fast when it comes to web surfing and telecommuting. The disk that comes w/the router is not needed. If you are looking for the least expensive wireless N router, this is the way to go. You will not be disappointed!

The Router was easy to install after I figured out what I was initially doing wrong. The connection is great anywhere in my house. I am sitting upstairs writing this review and the router is downstairs and I never have anything but an "Excellent" connection.

I almost bought this exact same model from Costco...then I got the weekly Deal reminder and there she was. I am pleased with it. The setup was nothing to worry about, only took a couple of minutes and I was online! Took me longer to tie up the extra power cable to make the desk look nice. Would definately recommend to anyone.

This is my first real router and have not setup a wireless home network till i bought this item. At first i felt frustrated at the fact that i could not get any of my components to work the right way at home. Went to the online Dlink and setup everything i possibly could have to get this to work. After a long (6-hours ) of setting up this wireless router. I walked around my home and noticed i had a wireless audio/video setup between two tvs at my place and wondered if that had anything to do with why i couldnt get this router to work. Within 2 minutes of shutting off my wireless a/v units my router was functioning lightning speed. The good is that its sleek, good quality and great price and picks up signal from way outside my home. I have wifi phones, laptop, camera all attached to this router. The bad: maybe if you have wireless a/v units setup at your home to send signal from one cable box to another, not a good idea to start installation without turning every wireless item off at your home. Time is definetly the best defence. enjoy it..

Installation was easy and it works flawlessly with my Vista computer, my wife's Apple, the Ipod Touch and anything else I throw at it. Just follow the directions and you will have no problems at all. Of course, buy.com always has the best deals. Don't miss this one!

This is my first experience with wireless. I must say that the router was super easy to install and setup. I works great with my laptop. I can kick back in my recliner and check my emaila nd surf the net. I love this thing. D Link is the best.

Installation was pretty easy, and it has worked just fine since (only a couple weeks so far). I havent had any issues, I get a good signal no matter where I am in the house. I dont have a "N" speed wireless card on my laptop, so I dont really use that feature, but for the money, cant beat it.

My initial problems with set-up came from my cable provider. I had to get them to re-boot from their end while I did the same at home. This freed my modem from my Netgear router so I could set up the dLink using a LAN connection.

If you're looking for a router that is cost competitive has a strong signal with fast access this is the router for you. Once you have it up and running that is.... Some of the quirkiness with the setup include the fact that it provides DHCP addresses for wireless clients but NOT for the 4 LAN Ports. If there is another router on the network providing the Internet access, it must be plugged into one of the LAN ports and NOT the WAN port. Once you figure all that out... you're good to go!

I've had this router for a couple weeks and it works great. It was easy to setup and I did not use their software or install process. I just configured it manually because I know what I'm doing, but it should be easy for the inexperienced as well.

The router worked well right out of the box. Amazingly, this router routes TCP/IP very well but it doesn't have a token ring connection. Overall, it is much better that the IP and token ring don't get co-mingled on the same network due to the bifurcated nature of the two networks. Good value and performance for the money.

My first wireless router also. Works perfectly for the wife's iPod touch. It was plug and play. The install software may be insulting for those who know what they're doing.

I wish I bought this router to begin with instead of the Belkin G Router, and saved myself $40. The Belkin started dropping connection every few hours and I didn't even own it for a full 6 months. I guess that's what I got for trying to be cheap... The D-Link was easy to setup and I haven't had a dropped connection yet (knock on wood) over the last 2.5 weeks. My friends have had the same router for a few years and love it as well. Truely a quality product without a huge price tag.

For the money, you won't find a better, easier to use router. Those looking for top performance that aren't worried so much about the price, I would recommend the jump to the DIR-655 or DGL-4500. The DIR-615, at half the price of those, is great for those that just want to use your everyday features. In response to the reviewer that rated this product at a 1, those familiar with setting up networks will not need to use the setup CD and probably should not. The manual set up, while slightly different from earlier models, works fine going straight into the router using the IP address without having the router connected to the internet. I have three network printers set up on one of these routers at our office and have zero problems. You shouldn't have a problem as long as you are familiar with the configuration on your printers and have either one or the other define the IP, not both - or maybe just change the default range on the router to what you need. Another reviewer mentioned the wireless signal on their computer dropping to 10% with the router nearby. Many systems have power saving settings on the wireless adapters that reduce the power being used for network devices so in some cases, this might not always be the router. Not as familiar with that aspect so can't say for sure how that works.

For a basic N router this unit had the best price. Ran setup and it worked right away. After trying to tweak the settings found original setting were best.

I set this up for my Mother in law and it was really easy. The internal web configuration pages made it simple to setup a WPA2 passphrase and get her new laptop running. My only problem was I had fight to figure out why XP laptops couldn't connect. I turned off a feature called wireless encryption setup and all works fine now.

Good price and fairly easy to set up. I did run into a problem during the original set up. I used an encryption mechanism that my laptop doesn't support. I was able to correct it by reconfiguring the router setting. The performance was really good. The router is in the basement and I always get excellent signal on first floor and one room on second floor. However, sometimes the connection would drop if I go to a different room on second floor.

I got it, installed it, hooked up, and hide it from view. Don't really notice anything wrong with this device. I don't think that there is more for the price I paid. One of the other thing that I liked is that it can hang upside down under my desk. So I got everything zip tied and out of sight. I don't have anything N speed so my review is based on G speed.

Installing this router was really quick and easy. No need to pay someone to do it - it is as easy as popping in a CD, following the prompts, and your wireless network is ready to go. XBOX picked it up right away with the adapter, as did my i-touch.

I have DSL with a PC and I bought a new laptop so I needed a way to get it online. I bought this item so that I could form a network and have either or both online at the same time. I certainly made the right decision as this router works everywhere in my home. It has a great range and it is very simple to set up. You can actually set it up without ever reading a single line, by just following the pictures. I am very happy with this router.

I had an old D-Link and bought this one to replace it. Installation instructions were simple and process was simple. I recommend this product - works great and range is better than my old one. Very happy I upgraded.

I recently bought this router and it has work better than expectation for $40. I own a pc, laptop, xbox360, and ps3. It connected with all of them perfectly. And for gamers, my NAT was open without doing and thing for the xbox and ps3. The setup took less than 5 minutes. I do not currently have anthing combatable with wireless N yet so i cannot comment on that portion. But I bought this for the future when everything is wireless N I will be ready.

Have had the router for 3 weeks and it works perfectly,installation was a snap and would recommend it to anyone.Only issue so far,I have a wireless TV transmitter that uses the same 2.4GHZ frequency that causes the router to disconnect,but that is not the products fault.

The router has great range and a fast connection. It was easy to set up; practically just plug and play. I didn't even bother with their CD, I just went to the IP for the router and set up everything there. It was very simple. The only problem I've had with this router is that the connection will drop maybe once or twice a day. I seem to have solved that problem, though, by unplugging the router at night when it's not being used. Even with that problem, it's still a fantastic router.

i bought the "n" instead of the "g" because the router would be located in the basement and the office is in the 3rd floor. needless to say, we get 5 bars everywhere in the house. the extra 10 bucks was well worth it!!!!!!

The setup was a snap, and the range is excellent. The installation CD was very helpful, and told me what to do using realistic diagrams step by step. I was up and running in about ten minutes. I bought this to replace another router that went dead one day and lost about 90% of the range. I had to sit within inches of the router the past few months and still barely got a signal. This one is a HUGE difference - I'm on the other side of the house and streaming HD video very fast - I still have a very strong signal (and this laptop has wireless G, not N). I would highly recommend this router!!
