D-Link - DIR-451 3G Mobile Router

I live on a dirt road. Cable and DSL are not available. I needed internet access in order to run my software business from home. I purchased the DIR-451 in Feb 2008. So I have used it amost 2 years and I have been happy with it. Not as fast as Cable. You have to have a 3G signal in order to use this. I am on the edge of 3G in my area so I don't get the full speed benefit. If you are within a good 3G signal, you should get Cable or DSL speeds. I have considered adding an external antenna. As far as the router, I have been very happy with it. It stays connected even if you are not using it. Of course it allows me to have internet connection on my desktop and 2 laptops. You will have to have a separate data contract to use with this.

I cannot get cable or dsl where I live and didn't want to go the satelite route. I've had a Cingualar (AT&T) card for almost a year that I used with my laptop. Wanted to have internet access for my other 2 desktops. I watched for this product to be released. I've had it up and running for over 2 weeks. I had to restart it only once during that time. The setup was very simple. It has a wizard that takes you through the setup. When using my card in my laptop I normally had 2 bar 3G signal in a sweet spot in my house. Fortunately, I was able to put the dir-451 in that same spot. I am very pleased so far with the performance of this product. I am able to move around in my house with my laptop and have signal with no problem. Could not do that if I had the card in my laptop. I tested the download speed (1,040 kbps down, 88 kbps up). It stays connected during innactivity. I watched an Apprentice video off of NBC's web site that I had missed and it worked great. I think the dir-451 is a little pricy but it is new and will come down in price eventually.
