1 of 5 does not work Saturday, October 18, 2008
    Yuriy Tymchuk from Lincolnwood, Illinois

May be I am one of those owners of this faulty device, but from day 1 it did not work for me. It does not come with excessively informational manuals, have to dig out information online. I have a Verizon card, which I configured according to what should be there, it showed signs of work, but the router would not connect to provider when I was trying to access a page. I tried to play with autoconnect options, however it connected only when you press connect button from within admin part of the router. however I would expect that the router connects on its own. I tried to update the firmware, hoping it would fix the issue. after the update, router stopped working at all. I do not think I belong to computers beginners after about dozen years of experience. I tried to return the router for a refund, however buy.com's policy does not permit refunds after the item was open. In a meantime my customer decided to just purchase a second verizon card to use because of those issues with the router. Now I am stuck with pretty expensive piece of equipment that I myself have no use for and have noone to sell to. Did not work for me, but maybe would work for you... just make sure you know how to get rid of it if it fails.

Product works great. The price was a good deal compared to the other routers I looked at. Highly recomend. It came two days after I ordered it.

    2 of 5 Good product ... not perfect Tuesday, September 25, 2007
    Scott Burgan from Ashburn, VA
I probably would have given this product a 4 if I hadn't had problems with DDNS and would have given it a 5 for value if it had included VPN (Open VPN) functionality. Everything with the router works fine, except DDNS with the latest firmware update 1.02 (I'm using the router with the Sierra Wireless AC595). The problem with DDNS is that it fails to update dyndns.com or dlinkdns.com. So, if you are going to use this router to connect to a remote site, you will loose connectivity when the dyndns client in the router does not correctly update the dyndns.com website with it's WAN IP address. This problem has been escalated at D-Link, but I'm not holding my breath. I'll probably need to buy a different 3 G router in the meantime (Digi or Linsys). I have a VPN router sitting behind the DIR-450, allowing me to remote VPN in, however it would be nice if they included VPN functionality into the DIR-450. This router is perfect if it is the only way for someone to get broadband access to their house or business and is much less expensive and better performing than satellite. Just make sure you are in range of the EVDO service, because RTT service is about as slow as a phone / ISDN line which isn't worth it. I bought the AC595 evdo card from sprint because it has an external RF connector which works with the CFRYE 800 / 1900 MHz amp. This amp allows the evdo card to get ranges of miles to the nearest tower. I used it at a friend's house who cannot even get cell phone coverage of any kind and was able to get 1 Mbps EVDO through Sprint's tower, about 5 miles away.

4 of 5 DLink router for data cards Monday, May 28, 2007
    David from Carthage, Texas
I've had my new D-Link router for about 3 weeks.. Took me 2 weeks to finally get it to working right. Had to update the firmware and it finally worked. Once I got it to working, it was easy to use. The range is not all that great but others probably don't either. Overall, I'm happy to be able to move about and access the internet so freely. Once it's been configured, just plug it in and it hooks up by itself.. Easy... I used the Alltel Kycera 650 card with mine. Good Luck!

    Robert from Hempstead, Texas
Been waiting for some company to come through with this type of mobile router it works better than expected with many configuration options. Buy.com is the best and so is D-Link.

3 of 5 Just what you'd expect from DLink - messy firmware Sunday, April 08, 2007
    rdhb from Florida
I was hoping this would be different, but alas it was not. D-links firmware updates for the DIR450 trashed 2 routers ...even with an hour and 40 minutes on the phone with 2 clueless tier 2 techs. The only defense I'll offer for Dlink is this is very new for them - Hardware version 1A Firmware version 1.00 as shipped, so this thing is right off the r&d floor out to production. The needed firmware update(s) may not work the first 2...3...4...5 times. Follow the instructions on the "How to update firmware" on the support pages. Short hint - allow 10 FULL MINUTES for the update to complete. Router is very slow to boot/reboot when configuring and takes 2 FULL MINUTES to fully boot the aircard... and only then will it start hosting DHCP. Also... never call them for support unless you've got copious free time to waste. IF.. you get it up and running... it does work pretty well, although the EvDo signal seems to vary over time. DDNS client doesn't update reliably.
