| | | The first of the Green Ethernet products the DGS-2208 provides 3 key benefits to end users through its cutting edge innovative eco-friendly technology
Reduces power consumption & creates less heat
Extended product life
Reduces Operating Costs
Computers do not require Internet access all the time; neither do switches utilize all ports at all times. When a computer or network equipment is shutdown, switches often remain on and continue to consume considerable amount of power. With Green Ethernet technology, D-Link switches can automatically detect link status and reduce power usage of ports that are idle. Computers or any connecting parties set to standby mode (not power off), however, will not provide significant power savings.
The Green Ethernet switches have the ability to analyze the length of any Ethernet cable connected to them for adjustment of power usage accordingly. Shorter lengths require less power.
For a traditional switch, power consumption remains constant even when the ports are not in use. In a standard workday scenario where PCs are used for 10 hours a day and powered off 14 hours a day, and connected to the switch using 20 meter cables, D-Link's Green Ethernet can save up to 40%* power used for each system.
Get the blazing speed of Gigabit Ethernet with the D-Link DGS-2208, an 8-port 10/100/1000Mbps Gigabit Switch that delivers power, performance, and reliability in one cost-effective, space-saving design. Increase the speed of your network server and backbone connections, or make Gigabit to the desktop a reality.
Power users in the home, office, workgroup, or creative production environment can now move large, bandwidth-intensive files faster. Transfer graphics, CGI, CAD, or multimedia files across the network instantly.
The D-Link DGS-2208 10/100/1000 Mbps Gigabit Switch features a non-blocking switching architecture that filters and forwards packets at full wire-speed for maximum throughput. An 8,000 MAC address table provides scalability for even the largest networks. Address learning and aging, 802.3x Flow Control for full duplex mode, and back pressure flow control for half-duplex mode alleviates traffic congestion and ensures reliable data transmission.
Designed using industry standards, it is compatible with virtually all 10, 100, and 1000Mbps Ethernet devices and other vendor equipment. The D-Link DGS-2208 10/100/1000 Mbps Gigabit Switch protects your existing network investments while providing you with a straightforward migration path to faster Gigabit speeds.
The auto features of this gigabit switch make installation plug and play and hassle-free. No configuring is required. Auto MDI/MDI-X crossover on all ports eliminate the need for crossover cables or uplink ports. Auto-negotiation on each port senses the link speed of a network device (either 10, 100, or 1000 Mbps) and intelligently adjusts for compatibility and optimal performance.
It also features diagnostic LEDs which display status and activity, allowing you to quickly detect and correct problems on the network.

5 of 5 Works for me Sunday, December 21, 2008 Rambozo from TSH, CA
Shipped fast, open the box and plug & play. Works with everything I have thrown at it from multi terrabyte backups to video and more. Quiet and cool. Only minor complaint is that it can be hard to see the color of the connection lights from some angles, to see if they are connected at 100 or 1000 bps. I bought this through ebay to use the live search 25% cashback offer, too. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great Value Sunday, December 21, 2008 A Customer from Irvine, CA
Works out of the box. The limiting factor is now the hard drives on the machines. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Fantastic Price for Great Product Sunday, December 21, 2008 JCommander from Moreno Valley, CA
This is a great buy. Eight ports for the price of 5. You cannot beat that. Now my whole house is runing at 1 Gigabit. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Easy install. Greta value for money. Bought a seco Thursday, December 18, 2008 Eric from Baytown, TX
Auto-configures. Just plug in your network and go. 1 Gigabit and 100M NICS play well together and speeds are right at the max stated of each card. Does HD streaming easily and leaves plenty of bandwitch for Voip phones, Skype and file downloads at the same time.
Using on house Cat6 network, and bought another one to expand further since I decided to not use the routing capabilities of my wireless router but have everything go through the switch instead. Amazing how fast 8 ports fill up!

5 of 5 Just Plug It In Thursday, December 18, 2008 SEinson from Batavia, OH
There is nothing to do. Just plug it in and it works fine at 100 MHz. I do not have a gigabit LAN to test the unit at, but at 100 MHz I can see and transfer data between 6 machines with ease. Excellent value for the money Was this review helpful?

Not much can go wrong with a switch and this one does not disappoint Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Solid Product Monday, December 15, 2008 A Customer from Tustin, CA
This product was recommended to my by some co-workers and I am very satisfied. The power savings is a real plus, because most of my network devices are asleep or shutdown during the day. This works great with my new gigabit NAS which support jumbo frames. I can transfer files around 18MB/s, which is more than the reviewers of the NAS had achieved. Also works great with my 100 Mb Ethernet devices.
Buy.com was incredibly fast to ship this product. I had this at my door step in two days with Standard shipping. Price was awesome too! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Works as expected Tuesday, December 09, 2008 MW from Detroit, MI
It's a gigabit ethernet switch and does it's job. I had heard it slows down ALL ports to Fast Ethernet speed if there is one 10/100 device on the network, but I have not had this problem. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Good value for the money Saturday, October 25, 2008 A Customer from Galesburg,IL
plugged right in with no problem. Replaced a defective linksys switch. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great Switch Thursday, September 25, 2008 A Customer from New Berlin, WI
I had this switch for a couple of months with no problems. It works great. It is smart that it will transmit at gigabit speeds to a computer with a gigabit NIC regardless if there are any slower devices on the switch. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Quiet on your desk Thursday, September 18, 2008 IT_Wayne from Concord, CA
All small switchs are about the same. This is a little Gigabit switch and it's good to place on your desk. It's quiet (no fan); good air flow is recommended. This switch has been running for about one year and so far so good. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Gigabit Switch Plug and Play Wednesday, July 23, 2008 A Customer from MI
Perfect switch plug and play right out of the box. Works great :) Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Just plug in and go! Sunday, June 15, 2008 Ron S from Central Connecticut
Very nice. Just plug into power, and your cables, and go. It is definitely 2-3 times faster than 100 speed. The unit is very compact, even smaller than the older 1008 model of 2-3 years ago. It must be using less power too, since it runs cool.
Buy.com was easy to deal with too. Arrived in perfect condition after only a couple days. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Very nice product, nice price Wednesday, June 11, 2008 A Customer from Fair Lawn, NJ
This is a nice small 8 port gigabit capable switch. Fit the needs of a small office with 3 PCs, 2 networked printers and Internet router. Nice small size, wall mountable so it is out of the way and not hidden behind other equipment gathering dust. Good status lights and indicators. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 D-Link GB Switch Wednesday, May 28, 2008 A Customer from Bettendorf, IA

5 of 5 Easy to install and use Friday, May 16, 2008 A Customer from Beltsville, Maryland

5 of 5 Great Switch Wednesday, March 26, 2008 A Customer from Solana Beach
Everything worked right out of the box. I do think it would be nice if there was at least a one page insert showing you that it realy is as easy as plugging it in and connecting the cat-5 cables, but oh well, I guess you'll figure it out. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Gigabit switch solved connectivity issues Monday, March 17, 2008 A Customer from Belmont, CA
I replaced a 4-year old Linksys 10/100 switch with the D-Link DGS-2208 8-Port 10/100/1000 Desktop Switch. We had been having periodic loss of connectivity, requiring power reset of the old switch. So far, no issues with the new D-Link switch. And we can now get faster transfers with the gigabit capability. Installation was a breeze. I highly recommend it.

5 of 5 As advertised! Monday, January 21, 2008 Dan from St James, NY
Woeks likie a charm. Plug and play, now I can move 700 meg movies to my NAs in a minute or so, large folders of smaller files in a flash. Great item. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Networking at its simplest Wednesday, January 09, 2008 A Customer from New York, NY
This is a Must buy for the home and small businesses intending to make networking simple, and Most Especially the non-tech savy individuals. Just plug and Play and the speed is awesome. No jargon buster needed and accompanied CD disc is practically irrelevant. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Good little switch Thursday, November 29, 2007 A Customer from Concord, CA
I have used many different hubs and switchs. And we all know switch is better than hub (no more hub). I have used the same model in many different workplaces. If you need a quiet switch then this is the one. This little switch is great to put on your desktop. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Unpack, plug in, connect nodes, done. Wednesday, November 28, 2007 Kevin Smart from Albuquerque, NM
Very simple setup. I was able to upgrade my network by simply plugging in my devices to the new D-Link switch and running a cable from my router to my switch.
Everything works great and the throughput increase is wonderful! Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Great Value Tuesday, November 27, 2007 Derek from Huntington Beach, CA
It does what it is supposed to. I've had it for about a month. Only thing I notice is that it runs a little warm, so don't stack itwith anything else... Overall I'm satisfied. Was this review helpful?
1 of 1 customers found this review helpful. 5 of 5 Great inexpensive GbE switch. Tuesday, September 25, 2007 Tim from Hillsboro, OR
I've had this switch for a couple of months now and it works as expected. No issues at all. Some users complain that it connects all devices at the lowest speed of any connected device. This is not true. It will connect at the maximum speed supported by each individual device. I am using it in a mix of 10Mbit, 100Mbit, and GbE. All devices connect at the proper speed. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Works perfect Tuesday, September 25, 2007 Rob from Bowie, MD
Fast and so far reliable. The only minor complaint would be that it is a bit bigger than a 10/100 switch. No noise and easy setup (if you call plugging two computers into it a setup) more than make up for that. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 After 2 weeks ... going strong Wednesday, June 06, 2007 RMoreschi from Louisville, KY
Well, it seems to be functioning properly after two weeks. The two PC's that I move huge files across both have gig-nic's. I have realized a substantial reduction in time when I move files between the two. The extra 10 rebate at the time made the choice much easier. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great so far Tuesday, June 05, 2007 Matt from Bethesda, MD
Hard to beat at the price. Dropped it on my desk, plugged it in, and off I went. Performance has been fine so far (qualitatively speaking). As others have said, it does run warm, so just give it a little room. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 simplicity itself! Saturday, June 02, 2007 A Customer from Erie PA
After years of struggling with installations which never seem to go as advertised, finally there is something which simply works. Of course, there is not much of difficulty to a switch, but it is so refreshing to have something simply plug in and just work as advertised. Doesn't seem to run any hotter than any of my Linksys older equipment (using a wireless router hooked to a DSL modem). The entire network is now available, and is truly Plug and Play, not Plug and play with the durn thing all weekend until it finally works.
A brief story on me, however. I was a bit rushed when I first installed it, and pluged the cables into the switch, and lights were flashing on the front of the switch, but blinking. Also, it didn't seem to be working right. I had plugged only 2 other computers into it, plus the uplink to the router, yet 4 lights were flashing. My first thought was that it might have been a defective product, but a quick inspection revealed the defective part: the installer (me). I had inadvertantly plugged the upgrade cable back into the switch as well! About 10 seconds later, with plugs properly placed, all was well.
Couldn't be happier. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great Unit for Small Gigabit Network Friday, June 01, 2007 Arthur Lewis , artlewis from Pennington NJ
This switch is easy to set up. Although I do not have metrics to support my opinion, the unit performs well with no compatability problems with SMC and Intel gigabit cards. One of the biggest pluses is the SILENCE of this unit because it has no FAN. Just make sure the switch has room to breath. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Good for the price Friday, June 01, 2007 A Customer from Pittsburgh, PA
I paid slightly less than the current price, but even so the switch remains an excellent value. Although the jury is still out on the reliability of this product, my initial reaction is that I should of bought two more of them at the original price.
At first I was concerned that it might tend to run a bit hot. Maybe it's because I'm not running much traffic through it yet, but it seems to be fine.
It will probably be some time before you find switches running at one gigabit with 8 ports at this price. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Excellent! Friday, June 01, 2007 Danny from Brooklyn, NY
Plug and play, easily mounted it on the wall. It looks and works great thus far (30 days). Plus the price was ridiculously low after the rebate! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 It works fine Thursday, May 31, 2007 A Customer from Newmarket, NH
No complaints here. Negotiated Gig-E with 3 different brands of motherboards and Cat 5-E patch cords. Price was very reasonable when I bought it, (less than thirty after the rebate, along with free shipping.) Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Gigabit Switch - Does the Job Tuesday, April 10, 2007 A Customer from Maple Shade, NJ
I'm very pleased with the switch. Does what it's suppose to. Lights on front showing Gigabit connect (or any connection) are rather small. I would have liked them to be a little bigger. Other than that, it's great. Was this review helpful?
1 of 1 customers found this review helpful. 5 of 5 Solid 8-port Gigabit switch Monday, March 19, 2007 A Customer from Oxford, MS
I have been very impressed with the performace of this switch for HPC applications running on a cluster of 7 PCs. The applications put a huge load on the switch, but it handles it just fine. In fact, I've purchased 2 more of these switches. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great product Wednesday, February 14, 2007 Ben from Iowa
Even though only two of our computers have gigabit, our house is made up of many switches scattered around the house. We have one cable running from the basement to the upstairs, two to the main floor, and one throughout the basement. From there, those cables have a 10/100 Mb switch attached and may even have additional switches. However, my main server, a RAID 5 (4.5 TB) NAS with additional server services is attached directly to this specific switch. This allows the switch to gain full speed access to the server and serve out data to our four "branches" quite nicely.
Essentially, each branch is limited to 100 Mb--and can almost have a full 100 Mb each. Before, if one computer anywhere was taking most of the server's bandwidth, other users (even on different branches) couldn't even stream video from the server. In the end, this was a very inexpensive upgrade which has made a big difference. With a RAID server, I have greater read speeds that really take advantage of this higher speed networking.
Upgrading every switch in our house would be costly and unnecessary. There are only a few computers that need the fastest access. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 As good as the professional brands Sunday, February 11, 2007 Jeremy Enos from Champaign, IL
This switch has not disappointed. iperf pushes 800 Mbit through this switch with 64k window size and jumbo frames enabled on each end, and that's with substandard adapters. For Windows to Windows large file transfer, what most are likely interested in, I get 25-30 MB/sec. (also with jumbo frames enabled- see properties of your adapter to enable this) This rate is likely limited by my endpoints. Was this review helpful?
1 of 1 customers found this review helpful. 5 of 5 Good cheap gigabit Wednesday, January 03, 2007 A Customer from Lincoln, NE
Actual throughput on my FTP server was between 300-500MB. Has QOS which is good, but I don't think you can configure it. It supports jumbo frames up to 9K in size. Plug it in and it works. Some people complain it gets too hot, but it seems fine to me, I have even kept it on the carpet and it still does not seem to overheat. Overall though, you get good gigabit performance for a cheap price, and I would recommend this to anyone. Works great for our LAN parties! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Good Product Friday, November 17, 2006 Information Technology Manager from Huron, SD
I bought two of these and put them in 2 offices in a gigabit networked corporate building. They get the job done. I got everything I expected from them, nothing more, nothing, less. Good Product, Good Price. Was this review helpful?
1 of 1 customers found this review helpful. 4 of 5 great value in an 8 port switch Tuesday, September 12, 2006 A Customer from San Francisco, CA
This switch seems to work fine in 100BT and 1000BT modes (I haven't tested 10BT). It's a nice small size and is also easy to wall mount; the price for this is that it uses an external wall wart. I appreciated the 100/1000 indicator for each port.
Like all 1000BT switches, it runs hot, so you probably wouldn't want to stack something on top of it.
It takes quite a while to boot up, but I guess most people will leave it on all the time. Was this review helpful?
1 of 1 customers found this review helpful. 5 of 5 Worked as I expected it would! Monday, September 11, 2006 R Terbrock from Augusta, MO
I purchased this switch to update my home network. I plugged it in and it worked great. Can't get much simpler than that. Performance to other gigabit computers has vastly improved. I also have a 500GB network hard drive and Dell 1600N network printer. They work great with the switch as well. Was this review helpful?
