| | | The first Green Ethernet technology on the market the DGS-2205 features innovative eco-friendly technology
Reduces power consumption & creates less heat
Extended product life
Reduces Operating Costs
Computers do not require Internet access all the time; neither do switches utilize all ports at all times. When a computer or network equipment is shutdown, switches often remain on and continue to consume considerable amount of power. With Green Ethernet technology, D-Link switches can automatically detect link status and reduce power usage of ports that are idle. Computers or any connecting parties set to standby mode (not power off), however, will not provide significant power savings.
The Green Ethernet switches have the ability to analyze the length of any Ethernet cable connected to them for adjustment of power usage accordingly. Shorter lengths require less power.
For a traditional switch, power consumption remains constant even when the ports are not in use. In a standard workday scenario where PCs are used for 10 hours a day and powered off 14 hours a day, and connected to the switch using 20 meter cables, D-Link's Green Ethernet can save up to 27%* power used for each system.
The D-Link DGS-2205 is a 5-port 10/100/1000Mbps Gigabit Switch that delivers power, performance, and reliability in one cost-effective, space-saving design. Increase the speed of your network server and backbone connections, or make Gigabit to the desktop a reality.
Power users in the home, office, workgroup, or creative production environment can now move large, bandwidth-intensive files faster. Transfer graphics, CGI, CAD, or multimedia files across the network instantly.
The D-Link DGS-2205 10/100/1000 Mbps Gigabit Switch features a non-blocking switching architecture that filters and forwards packets at full wire-speed for maximum throughput. An 8,000 MAC address table provides scalability for even the largest networks.
Address learning and aging, 802.3x Flow Control for full duplex mode, and back pressure flow control for half-duplex mode alleviates traffic congestion and ensures reliable data transmission. Designed using industry standards, it is compatible with virtually all 10, 100, and 1000Mbps Ethernet devices and other vendor equipment. The D-Link DGS-2205 10/100/1000 Mbps Gigabit Switch protects your existing network investments while providing you with a straightforward migration path to faster Gigabit speeds.

5 of 5 This one is a no brainer Monday, June 16, 2008 jagman_55@yahoo.com from Tempe
If you have more than one PC, this purchase is a no brainer.
Gives you one gigabyte transfer between PC's and all you have to do is hook it up after your router and your PC's into this switch to get fast transfer.
I took it out of the box, plugged it in, turned it on. Thats it. Was this review helpful?

The Switch worked as expected. The demo software that came with it seems to work on Windows and macs, but there wasn't enough intelligence to handle Linux or some routers and access points. I would waste my time installing it.
I now have gigabyte connectivity between my Mac, Wintel box and my Linux server. Now if the Cable router could do Gigabyte that would help.

5 of 5 Solid and cool performer Tuesday, June 10, 2008 R.R from San Francisco, CA
It sits next to my linksys switch, and i can attest to the fact that it runs cooler (feels like 5-10 degrees from a touch test).
Zero configuration required. I have three gigabit servers connected and one 100mbps, and have had to switch ports a couple of times. The auto sensing logic works perfectly and handles the gigabit and 100mbps connection speeds without any issues. File transfer speeds are good, but don't match the speeds i get with higher end managed switches at work.
Well worth the money, especially if you get it on sale. Was this review helpful?

It works as advertised, with zero setup (one wouldn't expect any setup on an unmanaged switch anyway). I'm not able to drive it to full Gig speeds, but I haven't taken the time to determine if this is the DLink switch, the gig NICs I'm using, or their associated linux drivers. That being said, I'm very happy with the purchase and am able to reach ~80% utilization, which is still much faster than 100Mbit, and within my expectations for the product. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Just as advertised Sunday, May 18, 2008 Jeff from Asheville, NC
I needed an extra lan port from my router and this did the trick. Easy plug and play set up. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 solid little switch Saturday, May 10, 2008 G.C. from Orygun
No frills little device. Just plug in and go. Mated to a D-link wireless router (also bullet-proof). It just works. I wish it had an optional vertical mount included. No biggie. Would buy D-link again, no questions asked. Was this review helpful?

I got this switch from Buy.com at a really great price months ago. Used it and other switches to bring my Cat5e wiring to 1 gig speeds. No muss, no fuss. And the switch even uses less power as it goes idle when no packets are packin. More than happy. I am buying another today. Was this review helpful?

The "green" feature seems like more of a gimmick than being actually useful, as most of it's savings comes only when you power down every computer, switch, and router connected to it (how likely is that!?). That said, it required no configuration (as it should be for a switch), and it has automatic uplink/downlink detection (older switches require special cables or manual switches when connecting the switches to each other). For less than $30, this switch is a great deal. Was this review helpful?

Good quality, fast switch...would be better if it came with managing software but for the price...it is a good deal. Was this review helpful?

I usually don't bother writing reviews but the previous review that rated this switch 2 out of 5 was so bad I feel I should set the record straight. It's 5-port. The 5 ports are there regardless whether one is used for uplink or not. I have yet to see any network switch (5, 8, 16, or 24 ports) by any manufacturer advertise otherwise. For someone to slam a product for true advertisement is frankly wrong and at best ignorant or at worse malicious. My business uses several of these and it works perfectly fine. This product has only four effective ports. The "fifth port" is really the uplink port.

5 of 5 Decent for Home Use Wednesday, February 14, 2007 A Customer from Salt Lake City, UT
I am not usually a D-Link fan, but the cost of this gigabit switch was irresistible. So far I have not had any problems with it. It is not something you would want to run outside of a home network however.

Ordering and delivery from Buy.com was superb.
The switch was plug n play and makes a nice compliment to
the D-Link router that sits right next to it. I recommend
it to anyone who has used off their ports on their router
and need some more ports. Was this review helpful?

Product is fantastic. Using with an Arris cable modem supplied by RoadRunner (Time Warner Cable). The unit is nice to look at and the on lights are not overly bright. There is nothing to configure. The unit acts as a signal splitter. Price at Buy.com plus rebate offered through D-Link mad this an attractve offer.
The only problem is with RoadRunner. They apparently only supplies 3 ISP's so when you connect, the 5th port is unusable to a 4th computer. Have not tried to network printer yet. Had to call tech support and they gave me a code line to enter at command prompt and then had to power cycle modem. In doing so, one computer that was connected was taken off line. You may need to purchase an extra ISP or go with a wireless router. Was this review helpful?
