The first Green Ethernet technology on the market the DGS-2205 features innovative eco-friendly technology

  • Reduces power consumption & creates less heat
  • Extended product life
  • Reduces Operating Costs

Computers do not require Internet access all the time; neither do switches utilize all ports at all times. When a computer or network equipment is shutdown, switches often remain on and continue to consume considerable amount of power. With Green Ethernet technology, D-Link switches can automatically detect link status and reduce power usage of ports that are idle. Computers or any connecting parties set to standby mode (not power off), however, will not provide significant power savings.

The Green Ethernet switches have the ability to analyze the length of any Ethernet cable connected to them for adjustment of power usage accordingly. Shorter lengths require less power.

For a traditional switch, power consumption remains constant even when the ports are not in use. In a standard workday scenario where PCs are used for 10 hours a day and powered off 14 hours a day, and connected to the switch using 20 meter cables, D-Link's Green Ethernet can save up to 27%* power used for each system.

The D-Link DGS-2205 is a 5-port 10/100/1000Mbps Gigabit Switch that delivers power, performance, and reliability in one cost-effective, space-saving design. Increase the speed of your network server and backbone connections, or make Gigabit to the desktop a reality.

Power users in the home, office, workgroup, or creative production environment can now move large, bandwidth-intensive files faster. Transfer graphics, CGI, CAD, or multimedia files across the network instantly.

The D-Link DGS-2205 10/100/1000 Mbps Gigabit Switch features a non-blocking switching architecture that filters and forwards packets at full wire-speed for maximum throughput. An 8,000 MAC address table provides scalability for even the largest networks.

Address learning and aging, 802.3x Flow Control for full duplex mode, and back pressure flow control for half-duplex mode alleviates traffic congestion and ensures reliable data transmission. Designed using industry standards, it is compatible with virtually all 10, 100, and 1000Mbps Ethernet devices and other vendor equipment. The D-Link DGS-2205 10/100/1000 Mbps Gigabit Switch protects your existing network investments while providing you with a straightforward migration path to faster Gigabit speeds.

    5 of 5 Works Tuesday, May 05, 2009
    A Customer from OBX NC

Plugged it in and it works perfectly. Using it with WRT600 router, media pc, dish and dtv sat receivers. Got it fast too even though I used free shipping.

5 of 5 Satisfying results, fast, get it. Friday, April 24, 2009
    Ferb from Omaha, NE
Windows XP professional recognizes it. Consequently, plug it in and go. I have two computers with Gig adapters linked with CAT6 cables to the D-Link DGS-2205. The DGS-2205 is linked with a CAT5 cable through a Netgear router to the internet. My wife and I are simultaneously working on photos and videos. As it was not practical (too slow) we worked with one on photos and the other on video. The 10/100 system, is part of the Netgear router, we used to network the two computers in the past. The Netgear 10/100 was too slow an impractical to use for photos and video, consequently it served only as a gateway for the two computers to the internet. I don’t know how to measure speed, but the DGS-2205 is fast, worth it and we can work simultaneously with photos and video on both computers using the appropriate hard drive wheather on the one or the other PC.

5 of 5 Easy Gigabit Connection on Cat5 Cable Saturday, April 04, 2009
Home Network User from KC, KS
This unit replaced a 100Mb switch that finally died after years of service. I was a bit concerned about actually getting Gigabit connections over the existing Cat5 lines in our home. This switch worked like a champ right away. Our home network has a mix of 10Mb, 100 Mb and Gigabit devices all working seamlessly. Thanks D-Link for another worry free product.

5 of 5 Great Performance, Great Value Saturday, March 21, 2009
    Lance from Brooklyn, NY
This is a great device. It works easy and well with almost no setup time. It produces no heat when operating and gives excellent network performance. It is even better than expected. I have it connected to a Dlink router so that I have internet access along with gigabit performance between my Laptop and FreeNAS. If you are looking for a switch to boost your LAN speed, this is a great option.

    5 of 5 Plug-n-Go Sunday, March 15, 2009

This was my first D-Link purchase, having used mostly Linksys in the past. This fit right in with my existing network, with no need to configure.

    5 of 5 Works flawlessly Wednesday, March 11, 2009
    A Customer from Wheaton, IL
I purchased three of these devices to upgrade my home network to GbE. The switch itself works just fine, as expected. An unexpected add-on was an enclosed CD with Pure Networks Network Magic software, which I installed & tried out. While this SW has the potential to be very intrusive, it provided a user-friendly interface to manage my wired/wireless network. My only gripe is that the Network Magic SW was a trial version that had a 30 day time-out -- a fact that was not disclosed during the install process.

    5 of 5 Energy saver Thursday, February 26, 2009
    A Customer from San Francisco
Very impressed with this little device. It has built in diagnostics that sense bad cables. It can uplink from any port, with any type of cable. It draws very little power. My Kill-a-watt measures only one watt power draw. I'm using this to allow my Blue-ray player to share an Ethernet outlet with my computer, so the cable runs are short. It draws one watt whether or not the devices are on. Plugged it in, and it worked fine. If only all electronic devices were this simple, smart, and energy efficient.

5 of 5 Great switch at a great price Monday, October 13, 2008
    A Customer from Indianapolis, IN
I'm a 3Com person usually, but when I needed a small switch to add a networked printer to my home office this was the best deal for the price (with rebate.) Not much else to say - power it up, plug everything in and go. It works great and does the job.

    5 of 5 Nice Product Sunday, August 17, 2008

Very easy to install. This unit has worked perfectly with no problems at all. It looks nice too. To allow for future expansion I wish I had bought the one with eight ports but am very satisfied with this one.

    5 of 5 Idiot-proof no-brainer Gigabit hypervelocity Sunday, August 10, 2008
    Brent from Newton, NC
There is not too much to say about this switch except you plug it in and it works. And on top of that the price is excellent especially with the ten clams I got back in the form of a mail-in rebate. If you are still using a regular 10/100 switch you don't know what you are missing! I regularly transfer multigigabytes worth of files on my backup. This switch makes the backup happen much, much, much quicker. Of course your attached computers must have gigabit networking capability to take advantage of this speed. If you have a home network do yourself a favor and buy this switch.

5 of 5 just what i was looking for!!! Tuesday, July 15, 2008
    Johnnie Halsell from Vancouver, WA
I have wanted to upgrade my home/office network from 10/100 Mbs to 1000 Mbs, but the price was high and not all my computers had Gigabit ports. I needed an ethernet card for my desktop, a PC card for one laptop, and an Expresscard for another laptop. Those are all special purpose items tied to old hardware. It costs a little more, however, the USB2.0 to Gigabit Ethernet Converter can connect to each of my older computers preserving my investment. I also got a great price on the backbone of my network a D-Link Xtreme N Gigabit Router, ant two D-Link DGS-2205 5-Port 10/100/1000 Desktop Switchs. Now my high speed cable internet screams!!!

5 of 5 This one is a no brainer Monday, June 16, 2008
    jagman_55 from Tempe
If you have more than one PC, this purchase is a no brainer. Gives you one gigabyte transfer between PC's and all you have to do is hook it up after your router and your PC's into this switch to get fast transfer. I took it out of the box, plugged it in, turned it on. Thats it.

5 of 5 Works as expected Thursday, June 12, 2008
    David Hazelton from Manchester NH
The Switch worked as expected. The demo software that came with it seems to work on Windows and macs, but there wasn't enough intelligence to handle Linux or some routers and access points. I would waste my time installing it. I now have gigabyte connectivity between my Mac, Wintel box and my Linux server. Now if the Cable router could do Gigabyte that would help.

5 of 5 Solid and cool performer Tuesday, June 10, 2008
    R.R from San Francisco, CA
It sits next to my linksys switch, and i can attest to the fact that it runs cooler (feels like 5-10 degrees from a touch test). Zero configuration required. I have three gigabit servers connected and one 100mbps, and have had to switch ports a couple of times. The auto sensing logic works perfectly and handles the gigabit and 100mbps connection speeds without any issues. File transfer speeds are good, but don't match the speeds i get with higher end managed switches at work. Well worth the money, especially if you get it on sale.

2 of 5 Fairly reliable. Finally affordable. D-Link rebate Friday, June 06, 2008
    Chris Norman from Fremont, CA
Took forever for gigabit switches to reach a decent price. With a coupon, this was almost a steal (was less than $30USD when I got it). I've questioned having to reset it once or twice to fix network issues, but this and the "matching" 802.11n gigabit router have overall been far more reliable than my old Linksys and my neighbor's Netgear consumer network gear! HOWEVER! Watch out for D-Link's little rebate scams. I had this same issue with Buy.com and KWorld, who turned out to be famous for never issuing rebates. D-Link tried to pull the "Submission did not include a qualifying original UPC from a D-LINK product" stunt. So I called, only unlike KWorld I got a hold of an operator and mentioned I have scans and photos of everything being together when I mailed it. After a few minutes of "talking to her supervisor" (sure), they "authorized the check and it will take another 4 weeks". ...They've had my info for a week after I mailed it - my special email address was suddenly flooded with spam after submitting this. But.. at least they say they're sending me the measly $10. What a bunch of crap, though. Be prepared to fight for your buy.com rebates.

    5 of 5 Plug'n'Play Tuesday, May 20, 2008
    Rich from Fox Valley, WI
It works as advertised, with zero setup (one wouldn't expect any setup on an unmanaged switch anyway). I'm not able to drive it to full Gig speeds, but I haven't taken the time to determine if this is the DLink switch, the gig NICs I'm using, or their associated linux drivers. That being said, I'm very happy with the purchase and am able to reach ~80% utilization, which is still much faster than 100Mbit, and within my expectations for the product.

No frills little device. Just plug in and go. Mated to a D-link wireless router (also bullet-proof). It just works. I wish it had an optional vertical mount included. No biggie. Would buy D-link again, no questions asked.

5 of 5 Really nice switch Thursday, April 17, 2008
    R Guaraldi from Londonderry, NH
I got this switch from Buy.com at a really great price months ago. Used it and other switches to bring my Cat5e wiring to 1 gig speeds. No muss, no fuss. And the switch even uses less power as it goes idle when no packets are packin. More than happy. I am buying another today.

    5 of 5 A great deal! Wednesday, March 19, 2008
    James from Lindon, Utah
The "green" feature seems like more of a gimmick than being actually useful, as most of it's savings comes only when you power down every computer, switch, and router connected to it (how likely is that!?). That said, it required no configuration (as it should be for a switch), and it has automatic uplink/downlink detection (older switches require special cables or manual switches when connecting the switches to each other). For less than $30, this switch is a great deal.

    5 of 5 Count them! 5 ports! Monday, August 27, 2007
    A Customer from Boulder, CO
I usually don't bother writing reviews but the previous review that rated this switch 2 out of 5 was so bad I feel I should set the record straight. It's 5-port. The 5 ports are there regardless whether one is used for uplink or not. I have yet to see any network switch (5, 8, 16, or 24 ports) by any manufacturer advertise otherwise. For someone to slam a product for true advertisement is frankly wrong and at best ignorant or at worse malicious. My business uses several of these and it works perfectly fine.

Ordering and delivery from Buy.com was superb. The switch was plug n play and makes a nice compliment to the D-Link router that sits right next to it. I recommend it to anyone who has used off their ports on their router and need some more ports.

    5 of 5 D-Link 5 port Gigabit Switch Saturday, October 28, 2006
    A Customer from Albany, NY
Product is fantastic. Using with an Arris cable modem supplied by RoadRunner (Time Warner Cable). The unit is nice to look at and the on lights are not overly bright. There is nothing to configure. The unit acts as a signal splitter. Price at Buy.com plus rebate offered through D-Link mad this an attractve offer. The only problem is with RoadRunner. They apparently only supplies 3 ISP's so when you connect, the 5th port is unusable to a 4th computer. Have not tried to network printer yet. Had to call tech support and they gave me a code line to enter at command prompt and then had to power cycle modem. In doing so, one computer that was connected was taken off line. You may need to purchase an extra ISP or go with a wireless router.
