4 of 5 Does the job well Tuesday, August 14, 2007 Tom from Berkeley, CA
Configuring the DWL-710 required some head-scratching because the instructions are poorly written and confusing. However, once you succeed, the device works great, creating excellent network signal strength throughout my large house with plaster walls. Was this review helpful?

I'm using the extender in a 2400 sq. ft house. The router is on the middle level and I don't get the best signal strength on the upper floor. Once installed, signal strength has improved from 'low-good' to a consistent 'excellent'. The extender is located on the upper level, appx 40 ft (line of sight) away from the router.
I'm using this extender with a D-LINK DI-624 Rev C router. The startup was quick and the extender immediately recognized the router. 2 things to note. 1. Just be sure you have updated firmware on this router as it needs a minimum of 2.50 or else it may drop. 2. If your router is set for 'auto' on channel, manually pick a channel on the router before proceeding with the wizard. The setup wizard on the extender was pretty straight forward and worked quickly and well. I'm using a D-LINK AIR-PLUS USB G132 adapter on the workstation. I've found that if you set up a wireless system that its best to keep all the components in the same product family. Was this review helpful?

I live in a big house (3 floors + basement). My wireless router located in basement and most of desktops connected through the wire located there. The problem I always had with my laptop which I'd like to use in the bedroom on a third floor. I've changed a few of routers hoping that new technology has extended range, however this was not the case. Signal strenght was either "very low" or "not connected". Now with this exteder DWL-G710 I have perfect reception all over the house as well as on a backyard.
I've read a lot of reviews for these item before I bought it and the only one negative issue was mentioned - confusing installation instruction. This is true. I am computer professional, however I did not understand anything while reading the instruction. By some reason D-Link people decided to mention much more things than it necessary for successful installation. Reading of this instruction became borring after first 20-25 seconds. I resolved this problem and I'd like to share with you how to avoid confusion.
When installing the extendor, do everything that shown in a booklet, but do not go deep into details. Don't try to understand - just do it. Always follow the default. Installation takes approximately 2 minutes and the wireless computer immediately catches a new signal (the signal from the extendor).
Again, it's a great item, use it and enjoy. Was this review helpful?

My Netgear WGR614v2 router is at the back of the house. There are a number of walls and cabinets between the front and back of the house. I added the DWL-G710 and was able to significantly improve the signal to the two front rooms. I used a D-Link wired router to set up the G710. The DWL-G710 appears a separate wireless network, so I can chose the stronger signal, the router or the range extender. Was this review helpful?

I had tried everything to imporve reception in my pre-war apartment in NYC - Antenna (3 different kinds), etc. I purchased this range extender - it worked with my Linksys Wireless router and when I had a slight problem called tech support who were terrific in helping me getting things going. Now I can work anywhere. Can't reccomend this product enough!!!! Was this review helpful?
