Global tensions have reached boiling point as the U.S. and North Korea square off in the South China Sea. 5 of 5 Between Gun&Run and Sneak&Spy Monday, March 17, 2008 Thomas from Milton, VT
- I love games but don't get to play them like I used to. Married with two kids, so time is limited here. When I do play, I want the game to be fun and heart pounding. I last played Ghost Recon 2 on the PC. This is a nice upgrade.
- I bought the MSI GEFORCE 8600 GTS (OC) and though the reviews from many said "don't even bother, go with the 8800", I bothered. It works perfectly fine. I have a Winchester 3000+ Athlon processor, 1Gb (2x512 DDR), all sitting on a MSI K8N Neo4-F MoBo (older now, but still a good board). The sounds and visuals are still really sweet even on Low detail. There are just a bunch of people out there who have the highest expectations of the software peeps.
- My upgrade (after rebate) was to buy the 8600 GTS card and though it's not needed to run Crysis, I should have another 2x512 DDR Corsair memory waiting for me at home today. 2 Gb is a nice round number. I can go up to 4Gb, but most software (Windows included) tends to bottleneck at 3Gb, so... For the card, it will end up being about $70 from Newegg (sorry Buy.com, but you're selling this card on the high end with no rebate... mine also came with Witcher for free). The memory was around $58 or so. One more note on the CPU, it's 3000+ which is just above the minimum 2800+, but what I wasn't sure about mine being a 2Ghz. The minimum also calls out a 2.4Ghz? It turns out it must be an either or thing. Because my processor is happily handling it.
- THE GAME! Learn to use that cloak right away. It's great. You can stay cloaked sitting still, for a long time. While moving, the cloak drains as your speed increases. If you decide to put a bullet in someones head, the cloak takes a hike. But the refresh rate is fast. You are semi-invinsible, but in many situations, you'll find you're looking at the grass and the screen is fading. Muerto. This is like most other games in that it gives you levels of play. I always opt for normal play. It's hard enough, but I'm sure there are hardcore gamers out there that will go right to the hardest level at jump right in. One special note, the enemy can take an abnormal amount of hits. A head shot is fatal, but that seems to be it so far. So due to your near invincibility, relax (even if taking hits), aim for their heads, and squeeze off your shots. My next attempt at this will be to see if I can go Cloak and grapple hand to hand. Guessing it's the same as firing off a shot. Have fun (pretty sure you will)
