Some of the more noteworthy names offering unreleased tracks here include Lil Jon & the East Side Boys ("What You Gonna Do"), Lil' Flip ("Throw Up Yo' Hood"), Pastor Troy ("I'm Outside"), Three 6 Mafia ("Nan Notha"), YoungBloodZ ("All Pro"), T.I. ("Turn It Up"), and Trina ("Get Loose"). In addition, there are a few holiday-themed inclusions: Ying Yang Twins ("Ho! Ho!"), Bone Crusher ("Guess Who's Comin to Town"), David Banner ("It's Christmas Time [Jingle Bells]"), and Killer Mike ("A Christmas Grind"). And the collection concludes with Lil Jon's "Throw It Up" remix featuring Young Buck of G Unit. It's a mighty rowdy conclusion, and undoubtedly the best inclusion here. On the whole, however, Crunk and Disorderly doesn't offer too much that measures up to the quality of "Throw It Up." In fact, most everything here is marginal at best, especially the holiday songs, which are novel yet nonetheless unexceptional. Regardless, the collection does showcase some of the South's finest hardcore rap talent and makes for a fine sampler that should engage diehards as well as curious newcomers, if not casual listeners. ~ Jason Birchmeier | | This compilation brings together some of the most popular hardcore hip-hop artists from the South, including Ying Yang Twins, Lil Jon (generally acknowledged as the King of Crunk), and David Banner. CRUNK & DISORDERLY is somewhat akin to an audio version of the film SCARFACE: It's a nonstop in-your-face journey through the darkest, most violent, sociopathic aspects of the gangsta aesthetic. Not only do you find the likes of Pastor Troy and Lil Flip rapping about shooting anybody that gets in their way, you actually hear the gunshots. The inclusion of two Christmas-oriented tunes amid all the purposeful nastiness might at first seem like a humorous anomaly. Ultimately, though, it just underlines the degree to which the hardcore topics addressed on CRUNK & DISORDERLY merely represent another day on the job for rappers as inured to the mean streets as Killer Mike, Youngbloodz, and other self-professed thugs. | | Crunk and Disorderly rounds up some of the Dirty South's hottest rappers circa 2003, compiling an assortment of largely unexceptional yet largely unreleased material that should interest diehards and those looking for a general down-South sampler.
