Product Guides

A small outline dual inline memory module (SODIMM) consists of a number of memory components (usually black) that are attached to a printed circuit board (usually green). SODIMMs get their name because they are smaller and thinner than regular DIMMs. The gold pins on the bottom of the SODIMM provide a connection between the module and a socket on a larger printed circuit board. The pins on the front and back of a SODIMM are not connected.

200-pin DDR2 SODIMMs are used to provide DDR2 SDRAM memory for notebook computers. 200-pin DDR2 SODIMMs are available in PC2-4200 DDR2 SDRAM. To use DDR2 memory, your system motherboard must have 200-pin SODIMM slots and a DDR2-enabled chipset. A DDR2 SODIMM will not fit into a standard SDRAM SODIMM socket.

The number of black components on a 200-pin DDR2 SODIMM can vary, but it always has 100 pins on the front and 100 pins on the back, for a total of 200. 200-pin DDR2 SODIMMs are approximately 2.625 inches long and 1.25 inches high, though the heights can vary. Like 200-pin DDR SODIMMs, 200-pin DDR2 SODIMMs have one small notch within the row of pins; however, the notch on the 200-pin DDR2 SODIMMs is in a slightly different place, which means that the 200-pin DDR and DDR2 SODIMMs cannot be used interchangeably.

    5 of 5 It Works! Monday, January 26, 2009
    A Customer from Seattle, WA

Have an HP Pavilion dv6646us. No hickups at all with this memory. First tried generic memory from other manufacturer whose site claimed it was compatible. It wasn't in that "resume from sleep" failed every time though memory tested as good.

I used these chips to up my aluminum iMac from 2 to 4GB of RAM. The smooth machine just got smoother. I've always had good luck with Crucial, and these chips were no exception. I highly recommend.

5 of 5 Crucial works perfect Wednesday, January 14, 2009
    billp117 from Bothell, WA
This was an easy upgrade for my ThinkPad T60p. The 4 GB of memory works perfect. Although other stores sell this memory for less...you have to wait for a rebate. Buy.com did not require a rebate and shipped very fast. This was an easy choice to upgrade DDR2 memory.

    5 of 5 excellent Sunday, January 04, 2009
    A Customer from Boston, MA
Works as expected. Installed easily. Great price. Just note that unless you have a 64 bit processor, your computer will utilize 3.5GB or the 4GB.

    5 of 5 Crucial 4GB Upgrade Saturday, November 29, 2008
A Customer from Long Island NY
This is a must have upgrade if you run Vista Premium or higher; the time to startup and load multiple programs with heavy graphics is significantly improved. My Acer Aspire runs Outlook and Excel faster, and I don't experience the occasional "freeze" I used to get with only 1 GB. The generous $35 rebate offered by Crucial sweetened the deal but it looks like the rebate program was cut back to about $10. You have to jump on the good deals before they expire. Timing is everything, and I'm glad I went for this. Thanks Buy.com & Crucial for a great deal!

Opened the package and removed the memory modules - opened the laptop and removed the old memory - pooped these in - rebooted and instant recognition by the MacBook. No problems. Terrific price after the rebate and hope the rebate is as quick and easy!

    5 of 5 A real no-brainer upgrade Wednesday, November 12, 2008
    Gary M from Hampton, NJ
This couldn't have been simpler or lower cost. Buy.com ran special on Crucial 4GByte DDR2 RAM memory kit. Went to Crucual.com, ran their system analysis program over the web, it confirmed that this memory would work in my laptop. Ordered the kit and downloaded the instructions to install it. It meant removing two screws on bottom of laptop and removing old RAM modules, snapping new ones, putting cover on laptop and putting the screws back in. Elapsed time about 3-minutes. Improvement in performance very noticeable when doing photo edits or video oriented activities. I highly recommend this upgrade. I use a SONY VAIO VGN-SZ645 laptop.

For the price after rebate, this memory set is well worth it even if you are running a 32 bit OS. Vista loads faster now, and I am able to run more tasks.

    5 of 5 Great value Sunday, November 02, 2008
    A Customer from Athens, OH
I used this memory to upgrade my Macbook pro (Dual Core 2 2.2GHz) from 2GB to 4GB. The installation was easy. I have noticed the computer is performing a lot better. I use VMWare to run other operating systems on my mac and the extra memory definitely helped. BTW, my old memory did not go to waste. I used it to upgrade my wife's Macbook.

5 of 5 Works great in my white 20" iMac 20 Tuesday, October 21, 2008
    Fernando from Brooklyn, NY
I bought this 4GB kit to upgrade my White 20" iMac from 1GB to 4GB. It works perfect. I own the White model that came right before the first Aluminum iMacs. It's been two weeks since I installed them and I haven't had any problems so far. Installation is easy if you are careful and know what you're doing. The free shipping was fast enough for my needs. I also got the $30 rebate, so in the end it was a great deal.

5 of 5 Good product, Improved performance Tuesday, October 21, 2008
A Customer from Glen Burnie, MD
Received the memory modules promptly. In accordance with the manufacturers instructions, I Popped out the old 1gig modules and inserted the new 2gig modules with a minimum of effort. My laptop's speed was very acceptable with the 1gig installed, now it is downright FAST. Well worth the money. Very satisified.

This 4GB ram is great. I just installed it on my machine that originally had 1GB of ram. And Windows Vista is being nicer to me now. The install process was easy. The hardest part was opening the plastic!
