Creative Zen Vision: M - Music Player Review

It's more elegant than the annoying click-click-click of the button approach most other players favour, but having it sense taps as well as vertical rubbing means navigating menus can go a bit haywire. Think of a laptop touchpad, and how annoying an accidental tap on that can be. You'll get used to it, but it a little refinement could help hugely....read the full review

    5 of 5 Exactly 2 Years Later Monday, June 30, 2008
    Alex from Charleston, SC

Ok, this review is 2yrs in the making! I purchased this device back in July 2006. I have yet to regret it. While everyone can point to Apple as the leader, Creative built a workhorse! No, it's not as thin as paper (not bad considering when it was released). The device has gone through a couple of firmware updates (do not run it without the latest) and software updates as well that have made it extremely stable. This is the device you use for solid reliable performance. I use it with Audible.com for my audio books, use my mp3 library (which I edit with MediaMonkey (mediamonkey.com)), have use it with some videos...but not much. I use it primarily for mp3's, FM radio works wonders, the recording of sound with built in mic, and recording of radio. You need a silicone skin to keep it protected and a screen protector (the film type, don't use hard plastic shield...mine got some scratches UNDER through rubbing friction). A tip I will give is that you do not want to use the sync or transfer function for music with the software provided. Instead use the Creative Media Explorer and open the Music folder and drag/drop your music into it...the sync/transfer functions sometimes wreck havoc with music tags. Overall, I'm traveling in Italy and the 14hr flight was made a lot easier with it. Extremely worth the money...or the next release of this device.

5 of 5 Very good product Wednesday, January 30, 2008
    A Customer from Connecticut
I was never a big fan of apple products so I gave the Creative Zen Vision: M a go. It is larger than the Ipod (which I like because it's easier not to lose in my bag or feel like I'm going to break). Many choices for backgrounds instead of the boring black and white on most players. You can adjust the dimness of the screen to whatever you want. Pictures, movies, and music are downloaded and moved onto the player pretty easily with the Creative software included in the packaging. I've only had one problem where I was pressing too many buttons at one time while it was loading music and it froze up on me. All I had to do was hit the reset button (which is safely hidden so you don't hit it accidentally) and everything was back to normal without the loss of data. Very good volume, sound and video quality as well. Many different cases and accessories to choose from as well. Overall, in my opinion, a very good product.

5 of 5 The perfect Media player Tuesday, September 04, 2007
    Gina from Pleasanton, California
I bought this player around the beginning of 2007, and have had the best experiences with it. It has plenty of space for music, videos and pictures. It's so easy to use, it even tells you if a movie is not the right format for the player and converts it for you when copying it over!<br><br> I use my Zen at least 4 days a week, and take it with me to the gym to make my workouts zip by while watching movies. I also have many playlists I kick off while shopping or working on a creative project for 30 minutes or more. <br><br> My only complaint with this unit is small - you really have to use the pc-based interface to organize all your files and make playlists. The built-in interface is cumbersome and not nearly as easy to navigate as what is delivered with the pc software. <br><br> I got a great deal on this through buy.com when they had a promotion of $200 for the unit and a $50 rebate. I would buy this over the iPod in a heartbeat -- my husband has a 30GB iPod and can't copy files back and forth to his hard drive (let alone watch movies). Because of its size, the Zen is like a backup for all my mp3's; every one from my library is loaded onto it. And as an added bonus, if my daughter is bored somehwere with me, I just start up a kid's movie for her.

    4 of 5 Quite simply, a great device...that keeps getting Monday, July 16, 2007
    Harry from Portsmouth, VA
Attractive, compact, features galore, quality sound, and then some. This product has it all! I got a Zen Vision M as a Christmas present last year ('06), and I've been enjoying it ever since. Transferring the songs I wanted to the Zen player was no problem thanks to the included software. The player is easy to use, fairly intuitive, and the sound quality is nothing short of superb. Even the photos (Yes, it includes a photo viewer) are crisp and sharp. I haven't watched any videos on it yet, but that's coming. I still have other Zen Vision M features to explore, and I'm looking forward to that. Bottom line? Based on what I knew about the Zen Vision M, I would have bought one if I hadn't gotten one for Christmas. And from what I've seen, it would have been money well spent. Try it. You'll love it!

    5 of 5 A Victory by Creative Thursday, July 05, 2007
Rhett from Salt Lake City , Utah
I would recommend purchasing a Zen if shopping for a portable media device. The screen is awesome and 30 gigs of memory doesn't hurt either. However if you are into what people think about your mp3 player, buy an iPod, because the Zen, while a great device, is not exactly fashionable. As for me I don't give a crap what people think about my media player so I love it. If you do buy one, also buy a protective case, because it scratches easily.

5 of 5 Great Alternative to Video iPOD Thursday, June 14, 2007
    A Customer from Dulles, VA
I have been using this unit extensively for the past month. XVID playback is great, but I wish it supported AAC audio. Battery life is fantastic, much better than my friend's video iPOD. I wish Creative included the video/audio out cable for playback on to a TV with the unit, but I had one from my Sony camcorder and that has been working fine. I purchased a Crystal Clear Touch screen protector from Boxwave for my unit and have been very happy with it. Application was easy and there is essentially no reduction in screen visibility or clarity. I would highly recommend the Crystal version over the Anti-Glare, much better clarity (I'm using the Anti-Glare version for my digital camera, which is great for outdoors). In retrospect, I've already filled up the 30 GB with video and audio and the 60GB unit would be nice. Since the new 60GB came out, the price break/rebate on the 30GB unit was hard to pass up.

4 of 5 Heavy but NICE Tuesday, June 05, 2007
    An from Montana
I was very happy with that player to the moment I lost it. At the beginning I had problems with using the keys for scrolling and pressing. It is also a little too heavy when you work out and keep it on your arm. But it has an enormous memory and I had on it 30 books on tape and probably could have 300. I bought it for $160 and was happy for its price and performance.

5 of 5 Very Satisfied and surprised Tuesday, May 29, 2007
    A Customer from Houston, TX
The reviews really sold me on trying the Creative Zen product. I purchased a FujiLab 2G and it sucked!! So I decided to upgrade my choice. I wanted to purchase a MP3 that would be comparable to the 30G Ipod I have. Hands down the Zen Vision M is very impressive. The color display is vibrant, sharp and mature. It's not childish, near animated like the FujiLab. It's user friendly with great features. I'm not savvy with downloads but after a bit of time I was successful. The earphones are a joke, only one ear bud works. I'm so happy to find a product other than IPOD that is truly a great buy without the excessive expense and hype.

    5 of 5 Great Product Tuesday, May 29, 2007
    Larry from Corpus Christi, TX
Overall very satisfied. First unit crapped out after a few days but Newegg replaced quickly and with no hassle. Pros:Beautiful display, great sound and very good price. Software package is easy to use. Very small size for a 30 gig drive. Drive appears to be rugged enough for general use. Cons: Needs a case to prevent scratches, selector pad is very sensitive, takes a little getting used to.Included earbuds are low quality, but with a good set the sound is super.

5 of 5 Beats The Ipod Sunday, May 27, 2007
A Customer from San Antonio, IX
I had a Rio Karma for years and it was a good MP3 player, but when it died I looked for a replacement. One daughter has an Ipod Nano and an Ipod 20Gb both of which have had several issues and have been returned to Apple for repair. Another daughter has a Zen 8gb micro photo, and it is the best little MP3 player I have ever used. So I bought the 30Gb Vision because of the ease of use and the support software. What I really like though is the screen, very clear and easy to see. After I had used this Zen for a few weeks, I ordered a 20Gb Micro Photo to replace my daughters Ipods. We will be an Ipod free home.

5 of 5 great portable video and music Sunday, May 27, 2007
    A Customer from Chantilly, VA
As always Creative beats ipod in quality. Video is stunning and sound quality is tops. Creative has much improved their ease of use but still can do more. However that is a small price to pay for what you get with the Vision M. Multiple movie formats, of course multiple music formats and the ability to carry tons of photos as well make this a great all-round multimedia device at a great price.

i bought this from buy.com and the product itself was very neat and works very nice. just a day after receiving the packet, unfortunately i dropped the mp3 player and it hits the ground very badly. there was only a couple scratches on the back, which is not too bad i think. the player could still work, and the display shows a professional look.

    5 of 5 Great product! Thursday, May 17, 2007
    A Customer from dallas, texas
I have had my Creative Zen Vision for about two weeks, and I am loving it. I think it is fairly easy to use, and it has a ton of features. I have watched movies, listened to zencasts, listened to music, used the FM radio, added my outlook contacts, viewed pictures and used the calendar. I would recommend this player to anyone... it is a great value. The three things that I would like to see improved for this product are: 1) more accessories (a downside of not getting an iPod), 2) one program that manages everything on the computer (currently there are three very capable, but very separate programs.), 3) faster video conversion. That's it... everything else is amazing! In fact, I bought one for my wife, and she loves hers. I also got her the Zen Dock so that she could utilize it in her studio... big thumbs up for that as well!

    NautiBear from Melbourne Beach, FL.
I am not a tech junkie but wanted a compact method to travel with my music on the road. My car stereo has aux inputs for such a device. Initially I was confused like when I recieved my first computer. In short time however thanks to the manual I was up running and ripping. I am very impressed with the sound quality of the ZEN, which is improved even more if I plug in my Grado headphones. I have transferrred family photos for viewing and bragging to friends/family while away. Initially the price seemed too high for me to indulge in this toy, but when the rebates and discounts hit, so did I... Hook line and sinker!

4 of 5 better than my previous sandisk....... Sunday, May 13, 2007
    DT from boston,MA
I think i would prefer the other model of creative zen where the screen is much bigger than this one. Unfortunately this came after i bought zen vision. I am not that happy with the manual, it hardly gave any information. Even now, I have to struggle to get to the downloaded audio book. Also, if i need to add songs to a play list, they need to be added to music folder. Once, unknowingly, i deleted songs from the music folder becoz they were saved as a playlist. But guess what, even the playlist got empty.........that was so........strange. I havent yet downloaded videos, so cannot comment abt it.........

    5 of 5 Completely satisfied!! Friday, May 11, 2007
    A Customer from MI
I am completely satisfied with my ZenM, I have been watching and cross-shopping for a player the past 5 months. Finally got a great deal on this website, plus all the positive reviews posted basically sum up my experience. Favorite part about the player is it's drag & drop, I can hook up to any PC and transfer files without any software. I'm planning to get a cheap protective case from ebay, and the sliding navigation bar has given me no problems.

5 of 5 Highly recommend this media player! Thursday, May 03, 2007
    Rick from Bakersfield, CA
I highly recommend this player over the iPod and Zune for Windows users. I purchased the Zen (have yet to receive my $50 rebate, but that's ok, still cheaper than the iPod) and a few days later my father purchased an iPod. The iPod is a pain in the neck with all the required syncing and converting. The Zen allows for drag and drop file transferring, and with built-in codecs (DivX, Xvid, Ac3) converting is a rarity. Another problem I ran into with the iPod is picture converting. Somehow the iPod loses information while transferring and corrupts the image files. I'm sure this wouldn't be a problem for Mac users, but I run Windows. All in all it's a great player, takes some getting used to with the touch pad, but it's pretty neat. Also, the ability to create playlists on the player itself is another advantage.

    4 of 5 GOOD BUY Tuesday, May 01, 2007
    Tricia from San Diego, CA
I wanted the Zen Vision in order to download audio books & DVDs. I was able to accomplish my goals but not as eaasily as I had hoped. Learned the hard way that if I delete downloaded material from my computer it will delete from Zen Vision @ next sync. However, it's a fun device for travel. I used to pack lots of paperbacks for trips abroad. Now it's just the Zen Vision & me (along with a foreign power converer) :-). I really love it & will become more proficient as I learn to use it's features.

    5 of 5 Get this mp3 player Sunday, April 29, 2007
    Andy from Atoka, TN
This is an excellent mp3 player. I had a Dell DJ before and it was a nightmare. The Vision M is far superior. I have it almost filled up and have not had any issues adding or removing mp3s. I use Windows Media player to add covers to the mp3s and upload them into the Vision. The Vision displays the covers without problems. It took me a few uses to get comfortable with the controls and layout, but I adapted easily. The earphones are easily the worst part of this player. That and you have to buy a separate cable / adapter to just plug it into the wall and recharge the battery. I'm pretty sure that is the standard with mp3 players now. Overall though, I'm very satisfied with this player.

    4 of 5 Power & Capacity vs Navigation & Use Sunday, April 29, 2007
    yourBuddy Bill from Corona, CA
I like the storage capacity, style, and media supported. Music, audiobooks (audible even, nice touch), pictures, video, and files in many many formats. My challenge is navigating to them with the menu structure, and using the sync software. Some ZENCasts and podcasts will attempt to be imported, but will fail with litle explaination. In some cases, ZENCast appeared to select a format from the rss that it does not support (or not well) when multiple formats are available in a feed. The controls take some serious training to use, that tongue depressor strip is sensitive, even on Low setting, and I frequently end up 2 or 3 menu levels down the wrong path. I wish the explorer software let you drap/drop or even cut, copy, paste files between folder/directory structures. The ability, as packaged, to only charge via USB is annoying. I like the size and what it holds and what it can do. The sound is very good, even when piped thru my car stereo (mp3/aux port) or my Tivloi Audio home system (aux or mix). The video screen gave nice field of view, brightness and colors. First impressions stay with you, and with the player ... my first accidental contact with the black case and screen retain my fingerprints. I got a leather cover (which partially overlaps part of the control strip) which was good, since it is a slippery lil device without the case. iTunes and Windows Media Player support is good to go. Fits in shirt pocket. Next step for me, get the various case and screen protective films, an extra dongle, arm band holder, and wall & car chargers. Wish I had gotten them all at the same time as initial purchase.

Excellent video / mp3 player that's easy to use. I'm not thrilled with the headphones that comes with it (I prefer the in-ear buds). For the price, it's better than an iPod.

5 of 5 Awesome MP3 Player, Definately better than IPod Vi Wednesday, April 18, 2007
Trevor Samhammer from Foothill Ranch, CA
The Zen Vision:M is the best value MP3 player on the market right now.<br> <br> Upside:<br> -Easy to transfer files to and from, whether it is audio, video, pictures, or data stored for back up and transportation.<br> -Requires no proprietary software (like iTunes.)<br> -Long battery life.<br> -EXCELLENT screen quality, sharpness and color.<br> -Plays just about every video format, and will convert any others to the format it needs automatically.<br> -Great built in equalizer and volume control.<br> -Can record voice and FM radio.<br> <br> Downside:<br> -Smooth surfaces can be easliy scratched.<br> -Player freezes once in a while, but reboots easily and without loss of data.<br> -Scrolling touchpad can be overly sensitive and clicked unintentionaly.<br> -Requires proprietary adapter to use wall and car chargers.<br> <br> I have no regrets about buying this MP3 player. The flexibility, battery life, screen quality and fact that I can plug it into any computer without it requiring its own software to be used make it a much better choice than the iPod Video. You can literally copy your files, plug it into your friends computer, and share any of the data you saved to the device. You can even customize the wall paper behind the menus.<br> <br> The downsides to the player are even easily compensated for. To combat the easily scratched surfaces, you can purchase a case, or clear laminate "armor" from someone like invisibleshield.com or the silicone second skin. If the player freezes, press the reset button and it takes just a minute or so to reboot. You can adjust the sensitivity of the touch pad, but even at its lowest it takes some getting used to avoid the accidental clicking. As far as the charging adapters are concerned, a lot of the 3rd party chargers you can buy online or at the store come with the adapter built in, so if you get one of those, you only need the adapter to hook the player up to the computer with the usb cable.<br> <br> Overall, you cannot go wrong with the Creative Zen Vision:M. It is absolutely the best player with its features for the value, and the screen and sounds quality are superb.

    5 of 5 Excellent Buy Wednesday, April 18, 2007
    msoleson from Keller, TX
I purchased this unit as a replacement for a Dell DJ which worked fine until the non-replaceable battery died. Two of my sons have Creative products and were happy with them so when I saw this one for a remarkable price I grabbed it. The performance is top notch and has CD quality sound. I usually use it with my home entertainment system and it sounds great. The visuals are superb as well. Great color. As far as accessories go, there isn't much. No AC adaptor, but my son's and my old Dell work. No car adaptor, no AV adaptor and a cheapo cloth bag. Buy a bottle of Crowne Royale and save the bag, it's nicer. Navigation takes some getting used to. Not really intuitive. Still, nice sound for a nice price and delivered on time.

this is a pretty good product but i bought one and then a week later it crashed and i needed a new one so make sure u get the warrenty, its a lot thicker then the Ipod but it is also cheaper too, but just as good of a system, i think the controls are very easy but the media adder program is pretty difficult. overall i think it a better buy then Ipod

5 of 5 Great piece of hardware Tuesday, April 17, 2007
    A Customer from CT
I have been using this player for 2 months. The sound is great and I recomend splurging on a better set of cans, if you are listening to good quality music. I have senheisers CX300 - they are great ! The touchpad takes some getting used to, adjust sensitivuty accordingly. Screen has great resolution. Works well with audiobooks as well.

    5 of 5 The Zen Tuesday, April 17, 2007
    Iris from Berkeley
One of the best purchases I've made. I like how I don't have to deal with itunes to use it, and that it's compatible with most video formats.

    4 of 5 Nice Mp3 player Monday, April 16, 2007
    Jeff from Milford, NY
Great player, like other reviews, the scroll wheel in the center is very touchy, hard to control, you have to use it like your computer mouse to get the hang of it. Syncs all files easily, Sharp screen, Hard to see in bright areas, Overall, it owns up to the reviews from other people. Highly recommended.

    5 of 5 Very nice MP3 Player...Forget the IPod, Zune Monday, April 16, 2007
Rob from Somewhere in Washington State
I just got this MP3 player about 10 days ago and I must say that I am very satisfied with it. there are only 2 minor problems, one is the front face plate, it gets scratched very easy and do not remove the plastic that protects the LCD screen until you get a screen protector. the other minor thing is the sensitivy of the navigation pad, it is very very sensitive but you can go to the system settings and change it to low (for sensitivity) the key to overcame this problem is lots of practice, now I have mastered it (only 10 days) and I have no more problems navigating thru menus. the sound quality and picture quality is just like IPod and Zune's so why paying more. to load music, pictures, and Videos is much faster than the Ipod or Zune (Zune especially is very slow) the software that creative provided is very easy to use (just like using Windows Explorer) not like the cheesy Itunes software. To convert your video files once downloaded from the Internet use SUPER to convert them to either Ipod, AVI, or WMV format...One of these 3 will work for any video clip. Again a great product for the price, I will never buy an Ipod or Zune...Creative is the world leader in Sound technology (Hardware) keep that in mind.

5 of 5 Great Product, Great Price Monday, April 16, 2007
    A Customer from Syracuse, NY
Great product. I originally had a Zen Micro and loved it, but my music library simply outgrew it. I decided to stick with Creative, and don't regret it one bit. Through buy.com, I got it for about a hundred dollars less than an Ipod. In my opinion, there is no comparison between the Zen Vision: M and the Ipod, the Zen triumphs easily. It has more features, including an FM radio and the ability to record directly from the radio, and also supports many more different file formats than the Ipod, which is great. I highly recommend this product to anyone looking for a quality media player.

    5 of 5 Best 30GB mp3 player Monday, April 16, 2007
    Mike from Ohio
After research and comparison of 30GB mp3 player units, I chose this one because it does not change the file names of the songs and is easy to load simply with Windows Explorer. iPods, Zunes and Toshibas do not work this user friendly. You can load the software that comes with the Zen Vision:M but you don't have to. In smaller units the SanDisk products also work this preferred way. I haven't been successful in getting it to play videos I load on it yet, but that's not what I bought it for. I needed a larger player for music. Real nice unit that is replacing my 4GB SanDisk Sansa. Con's would be it does not come with an AC charger (you have to use computer USB) and it does not show album artwork included in mp3 files. Very satisfied all in all.

    5 of 5 iPod Killer! Sunday, April 15, 2007
    Christopher Molloy from Brooklyn, NY
The Creative Zen Vision M 30GB does everything the iPod does, better & cheaper, and all without lining Al Gore's pockets (he's on the board of Apple). My only grip is that a wall charger is not included.

    5 of 5 I Like it!!! Saturday, April 14, 2007
A Customer from Des Moines, iOwa
I've tried many many mini media players and this is the one! Not a big fan of c-labs or the zen mp3 players, but this zen vision M media player is nifty. The FM radio sounds great, and stations come in clear packed with power. I don’t listen to radio/music much, but this FM sounds so good I find ,myself listening now more than ever. But... I got this for the ability to play video. And this DOES play video. Everything I’ve tried has played great. And with none of that 're-encoding" time consuming crap-olla. Just copy and play, thats it! I just really wish places like vongo and movielink supported this device. And especially shame on vongo for not. Now... to my only negative, the finger scroller. It is very touchy and it will take some getting use to. I think I've found the secret, however, in that you should firmly place your finger and keep it there when scrolling. If you become lite on the finger, it will mistake it as a select function. So don’t be shy in holding your finger down to get a smooth scroll action, and only lift and tap when you are ready to select. If you can get this down, the finger scroll will work very nice. I can see many actually preferring this scrolling device once you get use to it. You can fly around the menus like lightening. Like I've said, I've tried so many media players (ipod, zune, lyra, iriver, archos just to name a few (the returns dept don’t like me), but this zen vision:M I am keeping, having finally found the near perfect player. Now if vongo would only wake up.

    5 of 5 I love my new MP3 player Friday, April 13, 2007
    A Customer from baltimore, MD
It is easy to use, plenty of space. The only thing is that I wanted to get speakers for it and it seems that the options are limited. There is one speaker specifically made for it, otherwise you can use speakers made for Ipod but you can't place it in the docking station, you have to plug it in via a usb port.

    4 of 5 Awesome Thursday, April 12, 2007
A Customer from Los angeles, CA
I was debating between ipod/zune/zen. especially ipod being lightweight, but after reading the reviews, i decided to buy zen. I think i have made a right choice. the touch pad can be little hard to get used to, but i have PDA and PDA phones so am used to it. All u need to do is Press l'il hard and firm instead of traditional PDA touch screen. works like a charm well i would recomend this to all who what to opt.

    5 of 5 very satisfied Thursday, April 12, 2007
    Nguyen from Seattle, WA
Purchased the Zen Vision M30 after my Ipod died and I am very glad I did. The unit has more features and the screen is so much better than the Ipod. I occasionally listen to FM radio and transfer files using the Zen. Buying experience with Buy.com is very pleasant, the price is better than anywhere else.

    5 of 5 excellent product! Thursday, April 12, 2007
    Stephanie from Texas
I highly recommend this MP3/Video player for everyone. It is very convenient. Uploading videos/music/pictures does not take very long, in fact you can upload faster with this unit than most other MP3 players. Another thing I love about this is the amount of storage, it seems neverending! The FM radio doesn't hurt either. :o)

    5 of 5 best Mp3 Thursday, April 12, 2007
    A Customer from Gaithersburg, MD
Creative zen is a great device to store music, video, pictures of voice. 30 GB is huge enough to store all that you need. it is slightly heavier than Apple I Pod but this is lot cheaper than the former. Easy to use. great performance and great value for money. Shall recommend to those who are yet to make up their minds while shopping for MP3 players.

5 of 5 Great for books on tape, music and pictures Wednesday, April 11, 2007
    Irene from Omaha, NE
I bought the ZEN because it supports overdrive which is required by many libraries for checking out e-audio books. Ipod and others won't use it. I have had this for a few weeks and have downloaded music, books and pictures. The screen is beautiful and very easy to see and read. It has taken me awhile to figure out the set up and logic of the device. You have to touch quickly for the main menu selections and that took me awhile to figure out, I thought it didn't work. The only disappointing thing is that the manual was not very helpful when I wanted to reference bookmarking for audio books, I spent a lot of time figuring this and a few other things out but once I did found it easy to use.

5 of 5 Nice and handy Wednesday, April 11, 2007
    Bina from NYC, NY
Overall the creative is a usefull tool of entertainment on road and at home too. It has many functions that are impresive. Calender, radio, time, slideshow with music in the beckground.... and if you tend to record tings it is perfect. I atend meating where I use my creative to record them so I can review them later. However, one thing that I'm having some hardtime with is the forvard and revind button. It would be nice if there was a way to quickly get to the spot I want to resume my listening.

    5 of 5 Zen Master... Tuesday, April 10, 2007
    Jefferson from Barrington, RI
Zen bullets: THE GOOD - Manufacturing quality of the Zen is superior - Zen menu interface is intuitive and simple (my 9 year old figured it out in 30 seconds). - The controls are very easy to use although the touch-pad slider is somewhat sensitive. Changing the sensitivity to LOW clears this up. - The Zen boots quickly. - Battery life is as advertised. I find that even in well lit environments 50% brightness is plenty for the extremely vibrant display. I average about 4.5 hours of movie playback time and 15 hours for music. - As mentioned the display is crystal clear. Movie viewing is a pleasure. - Sound quality is excellent. THE BAD - The adapter is a bit of a pain. Creative would do themselves a service if they shipped a USB to ZEN specific cable. - No wall charger in the box... jeez! - There is no software supplied for DVD conversion and video reformatting. For such an expensive player there should at least be some minor piece of code to legally format your DVD collection into a ZEN compatible format. Prepare to become a video ripping Master to get videos into your ZEN.

    5 of 5 Wow what a Zen Monday, April 09, 2007
    Peter from Salem, Oregon
I heard about the Creative Zen from my son. And wanted one for my work. It is awesome, I have only 30% hearing in one ear and it plays loud enough to blow my deaf ear out. The sound is great, the custom settings come in handy, there is so much you can do with this it's great, I love it. Thanks for the great deal on my Zen Buy.com, there will be more shopping to come from me. Thanks Buy.com

    5 of 5 Awesome product Friday, April 06, 2007
    K. Zahid from Columbia, SC
This is an amazing mp3 player. Since many positive side of it has already been discussed here, I am not going into details of those. Just one thing about the video player... this player does a superb job playing a wide range of video file formats. However, when you want to upload a standard divx/xvid movie in Zen vision M and use the video file converter software that comes with it, sometime it says that the movie file is not compatible with Zen and its need to convert. I found out that all it does is to reduce the resolution and hence decrease the viewing area and reduce file size. And it takes almost two hours to convert a standard size (700 MB) movie. If you know it’s a divx or xvid encoded video with AC3 or mp3 audio code, chances are Zen will almost always play the file without any conversion. It will take more space compared to the one you get using the converter, but you get better visual quality and much better TV output if you want to watch it on your TV. You also save the time and hassle of converting again an already converted DVD movie into avi format. Enjoy........
