1 of 5 poor quality and poor customer service Wednesday, March 12, 2008 chaitea from stanton, ca
my sister got one as a birthday gift and the controls for the device broke within days. she told me she only used it 2 times before that happened. we returned it and got the same model, thinking that we possibly got a defective one. this time, the controls worked fine, but the screen blew. so we weren't able to see what exactly we were doing. called up customer support and they said the product is out of warranty (warrany is only 4 months from manufacturer date. we bought the model in january 2008, the warranty expired in nov 2007!!!) and the best they could do is suggest that we buy a refurb model. im thinking im never going to touch a creative product again and just go for the ipod now.

1 of 5 Save yourself a headache... Monday, January 14, 2008 Bob from Buffalo,NY
Do yourself a favor and spend the extra couple bucks and buy a new one. I've bought 2 refurbed MP3's and both had to be returned. Nothing but a hassle. I've since bought new ones. Shop around, you can get good deals on these new. Was this review helpful?
3 of 5 some problems, but generally a good product Wednesday, December 05, 2007 Dr. Phillip M. Feldman from Santa Barbara
My children are using a pair of Zen V Plus players. So far, they are generally satisfied.
POSITIVE:
1. All of us agree that the sound quality is tremendous.
2. The unit is generally very easy to use (except for items 1 and 6 in the "negative" list below).
3. The size of the player is perfect for my son's hand. (He's 12).
NEGATIVE:
1. I am responsible for loading material onto the players, and this is a bit of a pain. It would be great if one could transfer a folder of music to the player, creating a playlist with the same name, in a single shot.
2. It looks as though one cannot record from the FM radio.
3. The player can display photos in JPEG format, but not photos in the newer JPEG2000 format.
4. The size of the player is a bit small for my hand.
5. Instead of the tiny joystick, I'd prefer to have five discrete buttons.
6. If one is listening to an audio book track in MP3 format and shuts down the player (or pauses it long enough for the device to shut itself down, which takes only 1-2 minutes), the player forgets the location in the current track, i.e., it starts playing from the beginning when powered on again. One must then hunt for the location where one was listening.
7. There's no way to view photo titles. I have a folder of photos from the Louvre. The title of each photo specifies the name of the work, the artist, and the date, but it appears that there is no way to view any of this information on the Zen V Plus. What I'd like to see is the ability to turn titling on or off for any folder of pictures. When titling is turned on, the title of the photo-- everything that precedes the .jpg extension-- would be displayed immediately before the photo, as though the text were an additional photo. This should not be hard to implement.
OVERVIEW:
The fact that we have more negatives than positives might give the impression that we are generally dissatisfied with this unit, but this is actually not the case. In balance, this player is an excellent value for the money. On a 10-point scale, I'd rate it at 7.0. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 pretty good Tuesday, September 25, 2007 dr junk from buffalo new york
it's a good product. easy to get music onto it, unfortunately, the converter that comes with the product makes videos huge and unstorable for such a small gb space. the music quality is good too, just as good as the cd from which i ripped the music.
the buttons are awkward though and especially the big ones get pressed in my pockets if im running or just walking along, i used the hold button a lot cause of this.
if you cannot afford an ipod but would like something to play music i would reccomend this product. files are very easy to manage on the player and in playlists. the eq provides very good sound. it's a good product for a good price (but nothing can beat the ipod) Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great for kids! Tuesday, September 25, 2007 Becca from Hyattsville, MD
My 8 year old niece loves it and it is easy enough to load songs, etc. even Grandma figured it out. We got a refurbished model and have had no problems with it. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 So far, so good... Sunday, August 26, 2007 Bob from Attica,NY
I bought this for my 12 yr old son, he loves it. I can even download music and video, no problem, and I'm not a tech head. Has a lot of cool features, which once you read the instructions, are pretty simple to navigate. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 good buy for good price Friday, August 17, 2007 A Customer from Bloomfield, NJ
I just got it yesterday and so far soo good.
pro: its small and filled with features (video, voice recorder, etc) those you would have to pay hefty for in iPods. |
