5 of 5 great product! Friday, November 04, 2005
JW from Ann Arbor, MI

I've had mine for over a month now (silver), and it works great. Mine might be a newer model, because I haven't had any problems with touch-sensitivity and it has a lock switch, which were problems I've heard of in the past. The battery life does seem shorter than 12 hours, but it's not a problem at all if you charge it every so often, plus the battery is replaceable so you can just swap for a fresh one. I have had it freeze up on me just a few times, usually when turning it on again after a while, but popping the battery out and back in always does the trick. The headphones that come with it are pretty decent too. The microphone recording feature is a really nice touch, especially if you happen to be a college student who's prone to falling asleep in lecture. I don't find myself using the radio feature that much, but being able to record off the radio is also cool. Overall, I'm very satisfied, much more so than I think I'd be with an apple product. (though I wish there were more accessories like carrying cases, especially ones that protect the screen)

5 of 5 GREAT, EASY to USE, SMALL, Reliable and huge batte Tuesday, June 28, 2005
A Customer from Rumson, NJ
With all the hype on the ipod, I was hesitant in getting something else, but found the features of this unit to be equal to or superior to the ipod and also liked the fact that you can use msn music, walmart music, musicmatch and other services to find legal music and not be limited to just the iTunes selection. More accessories are coming out for the zen. You can see them on the creative.com website. Great machine, great battery life, great value.

5 of 5 So Far So Good :) Tuesday, June 21, 2005
Stu from Long Beach, NY
I just received mine the other day. It all sounds great and seems to be working great. I recommend this to everyone. I do suggest some people may need someone to sit there with them in figuring out and simply explain how to use some of the software to upload to the thing. Once you figure it out, it is relatively simple. The paper manual enclosed with the item doesn't seem to have complete instructions. The electic manual instructions are not exactly clear to some extent. After a while of figuring it all out it all was easy. Hate to think what someone with less computer experience or perhaps. Perhaps maybe patience is needed to initially start this thing, most want to just go at it. The controls take a while to figure out too. In time playing around with it, you get the feel of the sensitivity of the controls. Can't imagine how else you make something so small and control it. It is just a learning curve, kind of like riding a bike or driving a car, just have to get the feel for it. You may not need all the software on the disk, please check to see what Media Player you have if it is 10.0 then you don't need it. See what Adobe Acrobat Reader you have, the latest will do. The only thing you probably need is the 1st choice in the list of software to install. The other choices may change your settings as to which software reads what files, careful if you load the other software, if what you have isn't broke, don't fix it, unless you need to or want to. Once you get over some learning curves, it is simple. Seems complex or not too easy in the beginning, but it isn't.

5 of 5 excellent performance! Monday, June 06, 2005
tomaz from Charlotte
Pros – fast connection, very very small, good software (creative organizer with friendly drag and drop) and last but not least excellent sound. I received an extra battery, which is good so I can have 24 of music (I did not confirm this). Cons – the very first couple of hours, until you get used to the sensitive control. The ear buds are also not as good as the player but this is a minor issue.

5 of 5 Beautiful Friday, June 03, 2005
Kasper from Fargo ND
I love this player. I get about 8-10 hours of battery life, and the battery is user-changeable. That's especially good if you have an extra one charged & ready to go. Mine came with an extra, but I think that was a "limited edition" and can't necessarily be expected. The Zen Micro is loaded with features and I sync it with Windows Media Player with no problems. It also holds all my Outlook contacts; useful for looking up someone's number. I've dropped it a couple of times in the included plastic case with no permanent ill effects. (Interesting note: an Altoids tin is easily modified to protect this player) Music quality is excellent and songs can be selected according to a variety of traits (artist, genre, etc., as well as most popular, rarely heard, and random play all). Cons: The touch pad takes some getting used to, even on low sensitivity; your friends might get frustrated the first few times if they're in the passenger seat during a road trip. Always use the "lock" feature during operation to prevent unwanted control activation, one touch will start a song over or skip to the next one. Also, there are almost too many features for me - I don't need most of them, and they can add confusion. I don't think you can find anything approaching the quality of this player for this price. If you're not a feature junkie, consider the Archos Gmini XS200. It's the only thing I wonder if I should've gotten instead. (20 GB for $205 on Buy.com) *Don't pass this player up at the current price of $189*

5 of 5 Almost Perfect Wednesday, June 01, 2005
ssnydes from Issaquah, Washington
I have had the Zen Micro for a little over a week now and find it very handy with a few exceptions, like the extra case you have to put it in to use the belt clip or desk stand. It is a bit on the thick side, too much so to use while jogging; but the display is clear and bright (a factor as we boomers age)and the sound quality is excellent. It doesn't currently come with an extra battery as indicated by other reviews, but the ear buds (white) appear to be a higher quality than previously reviewed. The FM tuner is a handy extra over the Ipod, but can vary in performance, my guess is that the earphone cords are the antennae as it does seem to work better with them extended out. The menu navigation and software takes some getting used to and Music Match doesn't a driver for the device, but it is the best out there and good excuse to convert your collection to WMA format.

5 of 5 The Zen is awesome, only a few flaws Wednesday, April 27, 2005
A Customer from Needham MA
This is the most awesome mp3 player ever. The radio and microphone recording is too cool. The down side is that the touchpad is hard to get used to, the earphones are crap, and it seems sort of fragile. It's sound quality is great. It is nice and small but at the same time it's big in its 5GB storage. Don't be fooled by the 2,500 songs they promise, that amount is only in WMA format. If you are using mp3 format the number is more around 1,250 (which is still a lot). I recommend it.

5 of 5 So far so good... Wednesday, April 20, 2005
Proverbialgirl from Washington, DC
I received my Zen Micro today and have been playing with it for the last 3 hours. I'm impressed. Learning to navigate isn't really straight forward but once you get used to using the scroll bar and menu system, it is easy. I'm a student so the voice recording feature is what I was most interested in, it works really well. I am also impressed with the Creative software, it does things I didn't know I could do... like record audio tapes into digital format! Compared to Ipod... the Zen Micro does more for less money.

5 of 5 Love my new toy!!! Wednesday, April 20, 2005
Dan from Nesconset, New York
I have been researching MP3 players since the holidays and finally settled on the Creative Zen Micro. The software is easy to use and the sound quality is excellent; although the buds that come with the unit do not stay in my ears all too well. Not only can you establish your music into various playlists using the software (not able to create from the unit), but the songs are automatically grouped by artist, album and genre. The LCD display is nice and big and provides detailed discriptions of the music being played as well as the various menu functions available. My buddy recently bought the new IRiver and it is definitely more difficult to navigate. He can't even delete a song directly on the player. My only real complaints are 1) the FM tuner is useless. Constant static, even on the local channels and 2) the touch pad is very sensitive, even when adjusted to the least sensitive setting. That being said, you do get used to it and the "lock" butten keeps you from accidentally changing channels, etc., when in use. By the way, for those of you contemplating a unit with more memory than 5 GB, 2,500 songs is a lot of music. You have the option to convert tracks from MP3 (128 bits) to a WMA (64 bits) format, which would help you maximized space and my ears could not notice any distinct difference in sound quality.

5 of 5 A great product with more features than competitor Tuesday, December 14, 2004
Dave from WA
I've had the Zen Micro for 3 weeks now. Obviously I was lucky enough to pick one up from the first shipment from the factory as they seem to be completely sold out for now. I am very happy with the purchase. I researched all the competitors before going with the Zen Micro and in my opinion it has the most features I was looking for, which are: 1. Very small & portable 2. Easy interface 3. Long battery life 4. Multiple formats (mp3, wma) & FM Radio 5. Excellent sound quality 6. Quality brand 7. Not locked into a proprietary product/software The Zen has all the features above and more. The unit is very small and can slip into a small pocket, and its proportions adhere to phi so it's quite comfortable in the palm and pleasing to the eye (unlike the iPod mini which is too tall for its width). The battery life is quite long and you can buy a spare which is easily swappable in a few seconds (you can't do that with most other players). I like the fact that it plays .wma as well as .mp3 as that format seems to be slowly taking over as the format of choice. In addition, the FM reception is excellent and a nice bonus when you want to listen to radio. The bundled in-the-ear headphones are only fair (to be expected), but with a high quality pair of headphones and adjustment of the equalizer the unit sounds excellent. It should, since the product is made by Creative, which has been the leader in the computer sound card business for a very long time. If anyone knows how to produce great sound quality, it’s Creative. As far as software, my first impression of Creative’s bundled software was weak. I only used it once and then moved on to WMP 10, which works very well for syncing. The nice thing is the unit will work with whichever software you prefer; you aren’t locked into using what was bundled with the player. The only issue I have experienced was skipping on a couple of songs where the unit seems to be having trouble reading from the disk. I don't know if this is an issue with the quality of the particular mp3 file or the unit, in any case it has only happened on a couple of songs (and always the same ones) so I suspect if I re-download the songs it will fix the issue. One final note, the touchpad interface takes a little time to get used to. It is sensitive but once you've used the Zen Micro for a few hours you get the hang of it and it becomes quite intuitive and easy to use. However, I suspect some users without good hand dexterity may get frustrated with the touchpad. Otherwise, this is an excellent product that in my opinion blows away the competitors in performance and features.
