5 of 5 Bang for the Buck (now even better) Monday, September 04, 2006
    A Customer from Fairbanks, AK

I have had the 60 GB zen Xtra for almost 2 years now, and I have no complaints about the sound quality or performance of this player. It is small enough to take jogging provided you have a pocket to stow it in. The only performance issues I've ever noticed is that the player will sometimes reboot itself while you're running. I'm still not sure what caused this, but it hasn't happened for over 6 months and I use the player heavily in this respect, 4-5 times a week, 40-45 minutes at a time. I have yet to fill up the hard drive, and even if I do I doubt I'll ever need another player until I move to a better format than MP3/WMA. Where I was having problems was the interface between the Zen Xtra and the PC. The supplied Creative software is just plain buggy when it came to playlist handling and just not very user friendly, to put it mildly. I purchased the Notmad explorer, and while this was an interesting stopgap, it too required excessive manipulation to get the music I wanted. A few months ago, however, Creative released a firmware update to transform the Zen Xtra into an "MTP" or "Plays for Sure" device. This is exactly what I needed as I am now able to use it with my favorite free media player, Media Monkey. The player is synchronized to the playlists, albums, artists, etc that I choose without intervention on my part, and it will even fill the player up to its capacity with a random subset of my MP3 collection, with higher priority given to higher rated songs. Needless to say, I never have to listen to the same thing twice. So, MediaMonkey + Zen Xtra = Huge Bang for the Buck

5 of 5 Best MP3 Player On The Market Tuesday, July 04, 2006
We don't live in PODS from Kansas City, MO
The title says it all - I have owned this 60GB Zen Extra for nearly two years and it holds up quite well compared to the other models on the market. I have no idea what "GT-Force" is talking about in their review, but you can easily organize your files in a folder structure using the standard MP3 (ID2, ID3) tags which can also be easily changed, if needed, via the simple to use software that is included with this player. Avoid paying homage to Steve Jobbs with that OTHER "MP3, err Apple Player--oh yeah, please buy a Mac" and get an MP3 player that just does its job. Don't forget about batteries!! IPODS' batteries are internal, non-replaceable and end up being more cost effective to buy a whole new IPOD rather than sending the unit back for Apple to install a new battery for you (what a genius idea...let's make a product that can't last longer than 1.5 years, sell useless accessories and then cause the end user much grief if they actually need to service their MP3 player). Creative has replaceable batteries which are inexpensive - however, mine has last nearly two years without needing replacement. As far as sound quality, Creative sets the bar for digital computer sound...chances are, your computer has a Creative sound card in it....or it should. Their MP3 players leave none of that great sound out. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED PLAYER.

5 of 5 Better than iPod, yet, not the perfect player Thursday, April 07, 2005
    GT-Force from Miami, FL
    - 60 GB for this price is great! - If you are planning to organize your music into folders, forget about it, this player does not support that. You may create playlists, but it is not the same thing. - If you are also planning to use this as a backup device for your files, that, also, is not a great idea. You must use a propriatery software, since WinXP can not recognize and mount this as a driver, assigning it a drive letter. So, no file synchronization software works with it (i.e., you must compare your own files one by one)! - Sound quality is very good, EAX is great, yet you can use only one effect at a time. e.g., you can not use volume level normalization or can not slow down the track while also using the equalizer, since all are handled by EAX. - It is not as big and heavy as I thought it was going to be reading other people's reviews. I think, it is small enough to go with you, easily. - Software provided by Creative is good, but can be better. There already is better third party software (Notmad explorer), but it is shareware. I do not think that one should pay more for software after paying this much for a device.

    5 of 5 Great Value Tuesday, March 22, 2005
Gary Milian from Kansas City MO
This MP3 player has the highest storage on the market for the price. The navigation is easy. The PC/player interface is GREAT. It has 2 different interfaces one allows quick downloading of files in a folder click and drag environment and the second that takes longer, but allows you to organize your music into play lists and easily change file identifiers such as genre and artist. Making these type of changes on the unit is the only negative as this is a cluncky process. Since these activities are so easy with the desktop interface I have been in no way limited by this problem. RECOMMENDED PRODUCT! BEST VALUE IN THE MP3 MARKET.

5 of 5 A good player for HUNDREDS less than an Ipod for t Friday, February 25, 2005
    bennyhanna_ from Fort Collins CO
The average Ipod sells for around $300 for 20 GB. 40 GB and 60 GB are selling for over $400 and $500.... I don't want to know what an 80 GB Ipod sells for. Basically, this super player is the most memory you can get for your dollar. It has one drawback however. All music is stored in 1 folder, and you can't make new organizable folders. Kind of frustrating, but hey, I can scroll and look for my songs! Why spend $300 dollars more just to have folders? A superior player, Huge Memory, Low Cost, A+!

4 of 5 Great player for great price Wednesday, February 09, 2005
    A Customer from Columbus OH
Gives u tons of space for a low price. Audio quality is good. The player got stuck a couple of times for some odd reason but since then its working great. Creative Media Software included is good not the best you will find but good. Battery lifez ok too. Size wise its a ittle bulky to hold. The only thing which I didnt liked is the controls. they are at very odd locations and the scroll button is not very friendly.

5 of 5 Excellent product, excellent price Monday, January 31, 2005
    Dan from Seattle, Washington
The only disappointment I have with my 60GB Zen Jukebox Nomad is that I bought it directly from Creative the day it came out, for something like $400. As of 1/31/05 Buy.com has it for just $274! If you have a huge music collection this is an absolute steal. Oh well, I've had mine for more than a year, it is almost full with 1,000 CDs mostly ripped at 128kbps, plus lots more downloaded MP3 files - and I have no complaints. At the time I bought it this was the only MP3 player that had more than 40GB. And it was still $100 less than the 40GB Ipod, even then. It is the single best purchase I've made since I bought a Sony digital camera several years ago. Software is easy to figure out, once you get familiar with it. Batteries are removable. You can shuffle, play any track, sort by genre, artist, etc. You can create any type of playlist you want. I can plug it into my car stereo, or my home stereo, or my computer at home or work. The free version of RealPlayer has a plug-in so you can listen to your Zen without having the Creative software loaded on your computer - although it does slow down computer performance a bit. I was also able to rip tracks using Windows Media Player directly to my Zen Jukebox, I did not have the Creative software on that computer either. So what's not to like? Don't be fooled people, Ipod has a great marketing scheme going but you can get Ipod quality without the Ipod price.

    5 of 5 MY NEW BEST FRIEND !!! Saturday, November 13, 2004
    RICKY RECORDS from HACKENSACK, NJ
This 60MB unit is just the greatest!! I've had it for over 6 months and use it every day (heavy use) and it always delights me with its great sound and it's dependability. I've loaded mine with almost 12,000 songs and just love to hear all my favorite music played randomly. It's like the greatest radio station in the world except it sounds better, and only plays the music that I enjoy!! I would highly recommend this unit to anyone looking for a high capacity MP3 Juke Box. For any music lover this unit will become your new best friend who doesn't disappoint!

5 of 5 Great Player for the Money Monday, August 09, 2004
    A Customer from Tigard, OR
I have had this player only a couple of weeks. This player has excellent sound and is very easy to use. When I first got my player the cover popped off, so I sent an email to tech support and they gave me an RMA number to send it in. It stopped popping off so I have not sent it in. I previously used an Archos and was happy with it, but did not like the hard drive size. The unit is small and compact, produces great sound and seems solidly built. I would recommend this player to any PC user.

5 of 5 Mine works just fine Wednesday, June 30, 2004
    Mark from Hawthorne, FL
Many Zen users appear to have had problems with their units, while many have not. This means the design is good but the production process is not subject to enough quality control. My Zen works fine, and I am absolutely satisfied with it. After installing the drivers, transferring music files to the Zen is easy. It can hold thousands of music files -- I loaded more than 16,000 songs on mine. Great for long car trips, I just plug it into my car stereo, select the "play any song" feature, and it's like my own radio station that plays only my favorite tunes. The Zen works very well, and it looks cool. I hope Creative resolves their quality issues, because when these function as they should at this cost, I see no reason to spend $100s more for less capacity on an i-Pod. As soon as Creative comes out with an 80GB model, I will be first in line to buy it.

    3 of 5 my review Wednesday, June 23, 2004
    A Customer from Appleton, WI
I bought the nomad zen xtra 30 GB about 6 months ago, and it started out working really well. Granted the software it came with was instructionless, I was able to figure out how to fully manage the softwares capabilities in a short period of time. However, my player started going through techincal problems; such as no screen appearing when I pushed the power button, only the blue back light. This led me to delete my library and reload all of my songs, which was rather a pain. Also, I have had to use the recovery function of the player many times. Even through all these I still love the product and would recommend it to anyone, except for its techincal support problems. This is where I have had the most problems with this player. Technical support sucks. I have emailed them a few times asking for help, and the help they gave me was of no help at all, then they told me to stop emailing them and either send it in to them, or talk to the retailer I bought it from. If I stop emailing them, how am I supposed to know where to send the player if I wanted to? The player's value is great, its pretty easy to use, the performance is good excpet for the tech problems I had, but the service sucks. If you dont have the budget for and ipod, buy this, but if you dont mind spending over 100 bucks more, go with an ipod.

    1 of 5 Nomad (semi-functional device) Saturday, January 10, 2004
    Don S from Omaha NE
I bought my nomad zen xtra and am dissatisfied with the functionality. The device is not plug-n-play, if you want to use it to share data/music with other computers you need to bring the driver disk with you wherever you go. The Device uses its own software in order to perform a function that Windows is designed to do, easily access files on a hard disk. What this means is, you cannot drag and drop files, you cannot cut and paste files, you cannot play music stored on the jukebox on your favorite MP3 player software(or any of the hundreds of programs that already do this). You cannot easily organize your music into categories that make any sense (unless you only have <100 songs on your player), as a result you cannot find the songs you have transfered onto the player. When you have alot of music you the lists you need to scroll through are several hundred selections long and many are selections are redundant because of non-standard coding(avril lavigne, avril_lavigne, avrilLavigne, avril Lavign 1avril lavigne ect). The only thing I can say good about it is it does boot up repeatably without errors or malfunctions, function as it is designed and software does what it is supposed to do (just not very well). I bought this device and most likely will sell it on ebay.

3 of 5 needs better software Thursday, December 04, 2003
    A Customer from Amarillo, Texas
This is a good value; however it would be much better if one could easily place a bookmark on a file and if one could delete a file easily. Playlists work fine, but allowing folders to be transfered directly into folder such as Archos does would be good. There also should be an instruction book.
