| | | The LevelOne WBR-5400 MIMO Wireless Broadband Router consistently and quickly boosts WLAN throughput to meet the requirement for streaming video, VoIP application, gaming and large files sharing. It is equipped with multiple antennas to receive more than one signal simultaneously. If any of these signals should be blocked, it then keeps processing signals received from other antennas to maintain network connectivity therefore seriously reducing dead spots and extending range.

This router seems to work OK even though the signal would not go very far in my house. But after about 3 weeks, it stopped working and the WAN link would not recognize being plugged into my cable modem. A different router worked fine. I am now trying to get a warrantee replacement. 5 of 5 A lot stronger signal than Linksys! Tuesday, January 22, 2008 Ivan from Austin, TX
Not sure if my Linksys was going bad and/or this unit will too in the future, but the signal strength downstairs is 2-3 times what it used to be. The UI for setting your WEP is a little confusing compared to Linksys and Dlink interfaces...but nothing too tricky. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 A Real Headache To Figure Out Thursday, January 10, 2008 G Man from Reno, NV
A software setup program would have helped. This came with a disc that had 2 .pdf manual files written by someone in China and they were somewhat difficult to decypher. Finally had to email their tech support and they explaned where to go online to configure the unit. It's working fine now. Was this review helpful?

I wanted to extend my wireless network to an area where my signal was weak. This did the trick! I put the device on the other side of the house with a wired connection to a LAN connection, disabled DHCP, and made the SSID the same as the other wireless router. Bingo! Signal strength is awesome now! I can walk from any area in my house wireless-ly now and work! Was this review helpful?

If you want a complete router, don't waste your time on this. With this my home networking stopped working even though each mc could connect to internet but they couldn't connect to each other. No support forums and no support on internet. Still struggling with their email support . Not sure if they can resolve. Spend some money and buy yourself a good router from Linksys etc.

4 of 5 Tough Tough Tough to make it work! Friday, December 21, 2007 bigbear13037@yahoo.com from Boston, MA
Manual and product do not seem to be a complete match, eg; on/off switch - non existant, wall mount - no proviso or instructions. There is mention of a software installation program on the CD which is not there.
Installation - almost impossible. You probably need to spend considerable time and playing around to make it work. After about 1 1/2 weeks of use, I'm still not sure that I have it configured right.
Previous routers were G units a Netscape and Viewsonic. This MIMO unit seems to work at least as fast or faster than either of those. A huge improvement is noted on signal strength and thus internet speed for the wireless connections. Was this review helpful?

I had my D-Link 640 for couple of years now and although it's a decent performer, I ordered the WBR-5400 since I featured that it'll have better range and I won't have to reset it every couple of days.
Setup was very quick and painless. However, I was pretty disappointed that the newer technology and with the 3 adjustable large antennas (vs. only one small one of the D-Link), the reception wasn't any better and I also had to reset it after 1-2 days.
Overall, it's a pretty decent router if it's going to be your 1st one.

The advertising talks of boosting throughput and extending range, but in fact, the signal is about 3dB higher than the router I was wishing to replace and improve over. The original advert claimed 'up to 300 ft in a building, and 1200 outside', but using NetStumbler, the signal faded out at about 300 ft outdoors, with direct line-of-sight. It seems to work fine otherwise, it's a pretty good wireless router, but there is little or no gain in signal strength at larger distance.
Bottom line: if you need a router, this is fine. If you are upgrading to obtain better performance, save your money.

5 of 5 Works fine, reasonable interface Wednesday, December 12, 2007 A Customer from Cleveland, OH
I've had the unit for a few weeks now with no issues of any kind. I got it to replace my two older routers that sadly did not work well with Windows Vista (a netgear and some unbranded one). This router does not give me any of the internet connection issues Vista is so famous for, so I'm a happy camper.
The interface is a bit complex, I like it, but I know what all the options are for, some may be a bit daunted though. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great Range Tuesday, December 11, 2007 A Customer from USA
For the short time I have had this (3 weeks), I have been satisfied with its performance and range. From 1st to 3rd floor, signal stayed in excellent range.
The management web page is not that pretty but functional. Was this review helpful?
1 of 5 Had great promise, but doesn't deliver Monday, December 03, 2007 DKB from Hornell, NY
This product looked great on paper. Once I got it out of the box, it began to disappoint. The user-interface isn't great, but it's adequate. The real problem is it doesn't stay connected. Once I got it setup and running, it would work fine until it was left alone for an hour or two. Then when I went back to get online again, it wouldn't connect. I had to restart the router to get online. We tried using it for two days with various setting changes and even downloaded the latest firmware, but no dice. It just kept losing connection to the internet (this on a static IP connection too).
I wouldn't waste your money on this router. I went back to the Belkin router I was using before. At least that only locks up once or twice a week. Was this review helpful?
