Notes & Personnel Info |  | This is a nifty and puzzling little set of tracks that, with the exception of having a track by Willie Nelson, has nothing to do with the outlaw boom in country music during the 1970s. Waylon Jennings is nowhere to be found. Some original wayward country stars -- Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, and Jerry Lee Lewis -- are in the house, though. But having Freddy Fender, Charley Pride, Jim Reeves, and Don Williams included on an "outlaw" comp is just absurd. The coolest thing here is "Send Me the Pillow You Dream On," by Hank Locklin, a killer honky tonk weeper. While this is a cynical attempt to cash in on who knows what, it nonetheless is a cool little set and worth checking out because it's so cheap. ~ Thom Jurek |
