| Album Notes and Credits |
Notes & Personnel Info | | There are some truly admirable songs to be found on Country Gospel, the two-CD budget album from Madacy Records. Several contributions from the Oak Ridge Boys as well as some good tracks from Jeanne Pruett and David Houston keep this compilation in supply with strong examples of this genre. But why is Conway Twitty's rockabilly love song "Halfway to Heaven" included? Or BJ Thomas' groovy light rocker "Mighty Clouds of Joy"? These songs do not fit at all, making this hard to follow and uneven. Besides these inclusions, several tracks differ in sound quality, making it that much harder to listen to. On the plus side, these are all performed by the original artists, and for the most part they follow a textbook pattern for good country gospel. Fans of this genre may want to give this a listen -- there is a lot of decent material here. But those who do not enjoy this type of music should avoid this; these are some very typical examples that will not convert any new fans. ~ Bradley Torreano |
