5 of 5 Well satisfied Wednesday, February 25, 2009 Bob L. from Oelwein, Iowa
This seems to be a very high quality power supply so far. It does take some doing to hide the cables that you do not need. If you do not have a large case, spend a little more money and get modular cables. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Brilliant design Monday, January 12, 2009 John W. from Hartford, WI
I was afraid to upgrade the power supply on my 5 year old computer because of compatability issues, but Corsair really thought this one through! Some of the cables can be converted in less than 5 seconds to fit the older motherboards. Installation was a breeze. Thanks Corsair! Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Amazing PSU. Wednesday, September 03, 2008 A Customer from Durham NC
Very solid. Clean and consistent power output. Completely SILENT. If you only have one video card, this PSU will usually do the job very well. Using it to power a Radeon 4870 which I also bought from Buy.com. No problems at all. Get this PSU. 41 amps on a single +12V rail!
Buy.com rocks! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great power for the price! Wednesday, August 20, 2008 Brian from Kelso, WA
I bought this PSU for an older, under-powered, system that I was intending to upgrade further, but of all that I wanted to do, this power supply came through perfectly. I was able to provide power to all 24 pins on the motherboard (originally had 20), and was able to adapt the 8-pin CPU connector to the 4-pin plug on the board (the connector splits down the middle). I was also able to free my system of the power adapters to the SATA hard drives since this PSU came with SATA connectors. My PC came with a 300W PSU that was plugged into a system requiring at least 350W before modifications, so it now has plenty to spare. And yes, it's quiet and cool. Heavy? A little. Also comes in a spiffy sleave and with a sticker to let others know what's powering your system! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Can't go wrong with Corsair Wednesday, August 06, 2008 Brian from Apple Valley, MN
Pros: lots of connections, quiet fan, quality feel to them, visually appealing (all black case, cables, loom, & connectors), Corsair brand name.

Cons: Too many connections, non-modular, cables are slightly hard to bend

I have this PSU installed in my black Antec Mini P180 case. It looks amazing. Because of how the case was built, I was able to hide excess cabling behind the motherboard tray and extra drive slots. So having a modular PSU was not an issue with me. It might be for other cases though. I would only get this if you have a case that you are able to hide the wires, otherwise go with the Corsair 520HX (Modular) PSU. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Amazing Price, Good Amps, Very Quiet, Low Heat, Ne Tuesday, June 10, 2008 A Customer from Southern California
A fantastic price for an amazing PSU from a very reputable company.
[[PROS]]
>The 12V amperage (very important for high-end video cards) far surpasses the required 24A for my nVidia geForce 9800GTX. Most PSUs don't meet this requirement.
>Dedicated PCI-E connectors for high-end video cards that need two PCI-E power connectors.
>Very quiet operation
>Almost no heat generated or emitted from back of computer.
>All wires are fully sleeved in attractive/air-flow conducive black mesh sleeving.
[[CONS]]
>Could use modular wiring (wires that you can attach/detach).
>Extremely heavy. Probably the heaviest component in my system.
[[MY SETUP (works great)]]
>MSI motherboard
>Core 2 Duo E8400
>Nvidia geForce 9800GTX
>2 HDDs, 1 DVD-RW, 1 floppy Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great power supply Monday, May 26, 2008 Allan from Raleigh , NC
This power supply is a great value. It is well built and HEAVY. It came well packaged and was easy to install. I have used it for about a month and it is running well with no problems. It runs very quiet and cool with minimal heat output. There are plenty of cables to hook up all your components and the cables are plenty long! Overall an excellent power supply that is made to last. 5 of 5 Solid and quiet Thursday, May 22, 2008 A Customer from San Jose, CA
My old power supply (Allied AL-D500EXP 500W) came with my system died after 18 months. It took my motherboard along with it. Corsair VX 550W is quieter compared to Cooler master extreme power duo 600W and the broken Allied. The system runs stable with GF9800x2.
The Corsair package is nice. Along with the unit, it comes with a manual, zip ties, and a Corsair label. Comparing to the Cooler master, which is at about the same price, it has shielded cables. It is also nice that it comes with a PCIE 6 and a PCIE 6 + 2, so I can use it for GF9800x2. Many new GPUs require PCIE 6 + 2. It also has a 4 x 2 CPU power plug, which Cooler master only has 2 x 2. 5 of 5 quiet little thing Wednesday, May 07, 2008 A Customer from Cambridge, WI
Very happy with this PSU. It is very quiet. I just wish some of the leads were a bit longer, but this is only a minor quip for me. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Decent PSU Tuesday, April 22, 2008 Jay from Eldorado, IL
I bought this to replace a fairly new (~8 month old) Corsair 520HX that was acting stupid.
I'd really prefer a modular because of the large bundle of cables this thing has & I didn't need all of them, but the modular is what gave me problems on the PSU this replaced. I have noticed a low buzzing noise a couple of times, however. I've read several complaints about this unit having fan problems. Loosening the fan grill (as their tech support suggests) doesn't help in the majority of cases.
Overall, though, this isn't that bad of a deal on this PSU made for Corsair by Channelwell, however if this buzzing keeps up, it's going back as well.
It should be noted that Corsair is fairly quick (around a week to 10 days) to replace a unit under warranty. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great Replacement Power Supply Tuesday, April 15, 2008 A Customer from Baltimore, MD
This replaced my previous 500W power supply which was slowing dying and rebooting my PC daily. This power supply has worked flawlessly for a couple weeks now.
One thing to note: I have an ASUS Socket 939 motherboard that requires the extra +12v 4-pin plug. I couldn't find this plug on the power supply at first and then I read the manual. There is an 8-pin plug on the power supply that can be seperated into 2 4-pin plugs for these type of motherboards.
Lesson learned: read the manual Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 As Advertised and reviewed Saturday, April 05, 2008 A Customer from New York
I bought this Corsair PSU after a brand-new CoolerMaster PSU failed, right out of the box. I had read that this was a solid performer, and, it works as promised.
No Bells and whistles, no friggin' LED lights which I am very pleased with .... just solid reliable and quiet power.
The only downside to this PSU is that it is not modular; all of the multitude of cables are permanently attached. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 quiet, smooth... nice! Thursday, March 27, 2008 rcballa12 from Charlottesville, VA
i am impressed with this power supply. it runs quietly and was easy to install. it is not modular, so expect to use the provided twist-ties to bundle your unneeded cables. the option for 20+4 pin and 4+4 pin motherboard cables is great for new and old systems. i swear i notice better performance with my PC! 5 of 5 The Corsair VX 550 Saturday, March 22, 2008 A User from Maryland
Great PSU. Don't cheap out on your power supplies which I learned the hard way. But it's ok, I replaced my cheapies with this and all my problems went away. Plenty of power and completely reliable. Cables are long enough and thin for easy storage, fan is quiet + automatically changes speed based on temp, and it's black. Definitely recommended. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Great Price, Great Service Wednesday, March 19, 2008 Eric from Arlington, VA
This power supply has everything you need to power a serious system. 41 amps on the -12v rail will really come in handy when upgrading to demanding video cards. Since I only use one video card and have no need of SLI mode, this PSU is perfect for my current home built system and for future upgrades.
Buy.com has this for a much lower price than other websites. I ordered it on Friday night and it arrived on Tuesday with FREE SHIPPING. I plugged the PSU in and it went right to work.
This was my first experience with Buy.com as I tend to use a different site for my computer needs. I have added Buy.com to my personal list of online reputable retailers. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Solid as a rock Saturday, March 15, 2008 njdevil06 from Franklin,TN
Very pleased with this unit. Got it with a nice rebate to replace a less efficient Ultra power supply. This unit is quiet and has all the connections you need. Cables look to be high quality and were easy to route in my computer case. The online reviews for this unit are impressive. Solid, stable and efficient. An excellent buy! Was this review helpful?

I measured the wattage consumed by the Corsair PS and by another, much less expensive PS on a different and less powerful motherboard/CPU combination. I save about 50 Watts using the Corsair PS. That is about 1200 Watt-hours per day, or about 36 KWH per month. At 10 cents per KWH, that is at least a savings of $3.60 per month, assumming the computer is always on. In other words, aside from the Corsair PS's other features, the payoff period in terms of energy savings is between 23 and 24 months. This is a very conservative estimate; your milage could differ. 5 of 5 41A on the 12V Rail & Accurate Power Delivery!!! Sunday, February 24, 2008 theholmboy from SoJo, Utah
Features a heavy-duty build, single 12V rail with 41A, quiet & accurate power, nice black textured finish, wrapped cables with connections which cover all contingencies (even most dual video card configurations). Buy.com had a smokin' price on this (with or without the rebate), so I snapped it up. I have been utterly amazed that this sweet PSU has 41A on one 12v rail, especially since I am not fond of 2 rail PSUs and don't want to have to purchase some huge 1000W baby to get that kind of amperage. It has 6 sata power cables, two 6pin PCIe power with one that has 2 modular pins for a single 8pin PCIe card. Plus, it has 12v power with either 4pin or 8pin, also modular. I just thought I'd mention this, since the pictures aren't so clear on that. I have had great experience with Corsair RAM, having purchased 10+ sticks of it without one DOA, and I am hopeful that their PSU will be as good. This PSU replaced a decent 480W PSU with 26A on the 12V rail and I have since seen an improvement of 50 points in 3DMark06. It's juicing an overclocked 8800GT, along with 4 optical drives, 3 hard drives & 5 fans, so amperage does make a difference. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 good stuff Wednesday, January 16, 2008 A Customer from Springfield MO
The thing does what it is supposed to. I had a coolmaster that I got in a bundle and the 12v sayed at 11.8 and dipped to 11.7 sometimes so I knew I had to get new PS and this was recomended on the Forums at tomshardware and It works perfect. Puts out the right v and keeps my computer happy :) Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Superb!! Tuesday, December 18, 2007 A Customer from Henderson NV
I bought this for $100, looks like there is a mail in rebate now, but I still think it was a great value. I've used it for only a few days, but this bad boy is awesome. Very quiet, performs great. Very high amp ratings, enough to power quad core and 8800GT and multiple hard drives. There are plenty of power cords, can't take them out, but I am able to tuck them away in my good sized CoolerMaster 690. Very easy to install. I'd give this a 10! Was this review helpful?
