Upgrading my system with this CPU has met with mixed success. The performance boost from my older Celeron 733 CPU and mobo was significant. The smaller L2 cache, compared to the 6xxx series, is not noticable for desktop apps or VM hosting. Installed onto an Intel mobo with no problem. With 4 GB of memory, it handles VMWare server and two guest OS with no problem. The included Intel tools CD has a management app that includes a CPU temerature monitor. The cooling fan provided with the boxed CPU has proved inadaquate in spite of my effort at reinstalling the fan. Running a system anti-virus scan set off the CPU temp alarm when the temperature hit 70 C.
I'd recommend an after market cpu cooling fan. Otherwise a great choice.
