I needed a new power supply for an old Compaq desktop. I noticed that the old power supply (a replacement for the orginal) was a CoolMax. I ordered a direct replacement. The new power supply was here in a matter of just a few days, as promised. The price was better than I could have hoped. The only negative comment that I have is that both the description and the box show a fan speed selector switch. The unit I received does not have a fan speed selector switch. That said, I have an old machine working again. This provider is first-rate.

It appears to be providing the proper currents to my pc. I am not experiencing any issues what-so-ever. I have only had it for about three weeks at the time of this review. If it can last at least one year, given the price I paid, I will be satisfied with the purchase.

not much to say about power supplies...as long as they work and provide the stated wattage then all is a-okay. this supply does the job. apparantly this a new model as mine did not have the fan speed switch on the back. however, the fan is dead silent. as long as it doesn't konk-out too soon I will be satisfied. buy.com's price plus free shipping made this a great deal.

2 of 5 Don't cheap out on power by purchasing Coolmax Monday, December 10, 2007

I had purchased this power supply marked as an AP-400X model (it is really a 350W power supply) based on the Coolmax namebrand and the price. It worked fine the first few months in a desktop only used 2-4 hours daily, although there is nothing quiet about this unit as the fan is extremely loud. After a period of time, it started to cut off on its own. When I contacted Coolmax about the problem, their resolution was to cut the power supply off for five minutes, then turn it back on and do this for five times to get the power supply back up and running. Now after two years it still runs, but I have to go through that sequence twenty times in order to get the power supply working. Do yourself a favor and spend the money on a better unit.

I am bit surprised that how quiet this PSU is. I compared it with the PSU coming with my Antec 1650B case, which is already very quiet. But this coolmax PSU is much quieter. Note: there is a fan switch in the back (low, auto, high). When I switched it to high, it does become a bit louder, but still ok. I did a few hours web browering with the switch in auto mode, and the fan always stayed in quiet (low) mode. I like PSU with big fan (120mm), which pushes same air flow with less speed.

I have been searching for a quiet power supply at the right price and this one exceeds all my expectations. I tried the cheaper 80mm CoolMax, but it has too much fan air noise. I also have a pcpowercooling.com supply which is excellent and quiet, but a little pricey. This 120mm CoolMax has a fan speed switch for silent operation, nearly silent, and high-speed super cooling. I also like the flex wrap on the wires that helps keep things neat. And, the price is good.

I just installed this power supply with a new quiet processor fan, and let me tell you I'm impressed. The old ones that came with my computer were ridiculously loud. When I turned on my computer after installation, I kept waiting to hear how loud they would be, and I did a double take because I can barely hear my computer now. On top of this, the Coolmax power supply is a bargain compared to other 12cm fan power supplies which cost over twice as much. I just wish I'd bought quiet fans sooner.
