Plot Summary
When a fellow competitor trips Derice at an Olympic qualifying track meet, Derice fails to acquire the final points necessary to get to the summer games. To make matters worse, the local board refuses to reinstate Derice. But there's still way for him to make it to the Olympics.| After learning about a wacky American bobsledder living in Jamaica -- who had years earlier attempted to recruit Derice's father for a Jamaican bobsled team -- Derice's competitive spirit is renewed. Realizing that bobsledding may be his golden opportunity, he drafts his go-cart driving buddy Sanka, and talks Winter Olympian Irv Blitzer into coaching this offbeat team. Blitzer whips the dedicated athletes into bobsledding shape despite the total absence of snow. Together they're the weirdest outfit at Calgary -- but no one's more fun at the winter games.

John Candy performs as the team's coach whose riveting speeches brings joy to the Jamaicans and to everyone who is watching the movie. This is such a hysterical movie. You will want to watch it over and over. Was this review helpful?

Cool Runnings was the beast movie. You have to be stupid not to like this movie because it's funny and based on a true story. Some people say you know you can't believe, Jamaica has a bobsled team. Was this review helpful?

I missed this movie in it's theatrical release and first saw in on video a few years ago and rolled on the floor laughing in many places. The plot is thoroughly ironic -- a Jamaican bobsled team!! -- and based on a real event. The actors play their parts with relish as they bring to life the unlikely dream of a team of Jamaican 'athletes' competing in the bobsled event of the Winter Olympics. It's funny. It's refreshing.
