| | Album Notes and Credits | Notes & Personnel Info | | THE COMPLETE STUDIO RECORDINGS contains Led Zeppelin's 9 studio albums as well as 3 bonus tracks. The 10 CDs come in a deluxe box and include all original album art and a book with rare photos and liner notes by Cameron Crowe. | | Led Zeppelin: Robert Plant (vocals, harmonica); Jimmy Page (electric, slide, pedal steel, acoustic 6 & 12-string guitar, mandolin, banjo, background vocals); John Paul Jones (bass, piano, keyboards, organ, Mellotron, synthesizer, background vocals); John Bonham (drums, tympani, background vocals). | | Additional personnel: Viram Jasani (tabla); Sandy Denny. | | Compilation producers: Jimmy Page, Yves Beauvais. | | Digitally remastered by Jimmy Page and George Marino at Sterling Sound, New York, New York. | | Collecting all of Led Zeppelin's groundbreaking studio albums (as well as a reworked Coda) in one unattractive box, The Complete Studio Recordings is only necessary for hardcore fans wishing to replace their old records. Although the artwork inside the package is lavish, the box features no new material, making it irrelevant for those who already own the first two box sets. The music here is brilliant, but it's available in better, more attractive, and less expensive packages. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine | | Released in 1993, THE COMPLETE STUDIO RECORDINGS is a ten-CD collection of Led Zeppelin's officially released studio albums along with a handful of rarities, all personally remastered by Jimmy Page. After releasing a self-titled, blues-based debut and a harder-rocking follow-up primarily recorded on tour, Led Zeppelin's muse was soon travelling all over the map. On LED ZEPPELIN III, the band retreated to the Welsh countryside, influenced by the folkier side of Joni Mitchell and The Byrds, whereas the HOUSES OF THE HOLY found the band delving into funk and reggae. | | Although "Stairway To Heaven" was the epic that defined the band in many people's eyes, it was PHYSICAL GRAFFITTI's "Kashmir" that the surviving members still point to as quintessential Zeppelin. Inspired by a trip to Morocco, the song's hypnotic pace and Middle Eastern flavor exposed millions to that culture long before the term "world music" was coined. PRESENCE showed the band still were vital and no worse for wear. By the time IN THROUGH THE OUT DOOR came out in 1979, the band was updating their sound by experimenting with synthesizers. In the midst of preparation for a massive North American tour, John Bonham died. The dates were cancelled and the band quickly broke up. CODA, an outtakes album, was released two years later. All this history and much more is covered in the Cameron Crowe liner notes of the 56-page book included in THE COMPLETE RECORDINGS package. | Musical Guests | | Sandy Denny |

| | Professional Reviews | | Q (12/93, p.133) - 5 Stars - Indispensible - "...[STUDIO RECORDINGS] make all other rock CDs sound not quite there..."q4music 10 of 10 ...If the blues that inspired Led Zeppelin was music to haunt the soul, what they made of it was a sound to giddy the senses and electrify the body so completely that as each song climaxes you feel your ribcage blow. ...these complete remasters scrape off the patina and restore the colour to an essentially flesh-and-blood, sweatily human endeavour. They make all other rock CDs sound not quite there. - Mat Snow

| | Bio | | "See, we were fortunate in those days not to have to do singles. There was no point where we thought, 'well, now we've got to write the big single.' It was an album market at the time. So each album reflected where we were, mentally, at the time. We had done a few gigs before the first album, but then we went in and recorded it in a short amount of time. And the second album was actually done while we were on the road, so a lot of that energy comes through. The third album was written during what was, sort of, the first tour break in the band's career. The album reflected that break in our schedule--it was mellower. We got a great critical hammering because everyone was expecting something with the same sort of force as the second. But then even the fourth album got bad reviews. And it's great to sit here and say, 'they were wrong.'"-- Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page, quoted in Guitar World, 1991.
