| | | Faith is More Than Skin Deep. Features: DVD, Widescreen, English, Spanish, French, Subtitled This powerful, epic film vividly portrays the last 48 hours of the life of Jesus Christ and challenges commonly held assumptions about him. With moving performances from Jean-Claude LaMarre (Malcolm X) and Debbi Morgan (Woman Thou Art Loosed), this stirring film is a triumph! The first depiction of Jesus as a black man, Color of the Cross is also the first to suggest that the Crucifixion could have been racially motivated. A compelling script and astounding interpretations of the Bible make this daring masterpiece an achievement not to be missed. With its inspiring, unconventional approach to an emotionally volatile issue, Color of the Cross presents a fresh perspective on the history of Christianity and delivers as moving a portrait of his life as has ever been put to film! "...director, cowriter, coproducer and star LaMarre is more interested in Jesus' teachings than in his suffering..." Maitland McDonagh, TV Guide
 Editor's Note
This challenging and controversial film tackles the final days of the life of Christ. But unlike its predecessors, COLOR OF THE CROSS debunks the commonly held belief that Jesus was white. Not only does a black man portray Christ, but this important drama also questions whether he was killed for the color of his skin. Jean-Claude La Marre (MALCOLM X) directs, writes, and stars in this powerful film that gives a picture of the religious icon that has never been seen on screen. Debbi Morgan (WOMAN, THOU ART LOOSED) costars beside La Marre.

| | Professional Reviews | Variety 6 of 10 "Do you think they are doing this because he is black?," Jesus' mother Mary intently inquires in "Color of the Cross," tidily summing up the novelty of this first bigscreen depiction of the Messiah as a man of palpably African heritage. Like "The Passion of the Christ," this earnest, tediously paced low-budgeter traces the final two days of the savior's life, although new entry cuts directly from his arrest to his final words on the cross, as if ceding everything in between to Mel Gibson...But lacking the drama of Jesus' trial and the passion, as well as the substance of his teachings, LaMarre's turgid take has very little to offer dramatically or inspirationally. - Todd McCarthy
