 | Subtitled A COLLECTION OF SONGS REPRESENTING AN ENTHUSIASM FOR RECORDING...BY AMATEURS, this compilation represents some of the more interesting creative byways the Lips went down during their heyday as Okie psychedelic garage-rockers. Bizarre imagery and often out-of-tune instruments were commonplace, meaning songs such as "Jesus Shootin' Heroin" and "Bag Full Of Thoughts" can easily be mistaken for NUGGETS outtakes. Sticking to the rule of having no rules, the Lips' experimenting resulted in skewed sound collages and noisy instrumental dirges such as "Hell's Angels Cracker Factory" and "Ma I Didn't Notice." |
 | Covering songs also became an adventure in the absurd as the Lips nonchalantly segued from Sonic Youth into Led Zeppelin ("Death Valley '69," "Thank You") and introduced the late-'60s punk of the Sonics to the rambunctious pub rock of Nick Lowe ("Strychnine/Peace Love And Understanding"). |
