4 of 5 The cheapest HDMI DVD player Monday, December 08, 2008 RJ from New York, NY
It's not the quietest DVD player out there. It lacks a display on the front of the unit (on-screen display only). It has perhaps the worst remote control ever designed. But it is the least expensive DVD player on the market with upconversion and an HDMI output, and it does a fine job playing movies on an HDTV. Was this review helpful?
3 of 5 You get what you pay for... Wednesday, May 21, 2008 A Customer from NY
lack of display on unit itself was disappointing. inability to fast fwd & rewind while skipping chapters is annoying- while FF or RWD it auto stops at the next chapter. Was this review helpful?
2 of 5 Spend a little more to get a lot more Friday, March 21, 2008 A Customer from Meckesville, PA
If you want to have a DVD player with up-conversion while waiting for the Blu-ray players to come down in price, pay a little more to get something better. This is an ok machine, but it's flimsy and has it's share of quirks. I have played about two dozen moves on mine in the three months I've had this and it's starting to give me a hard time. It won't read some discs, it pixels out during play and at times it will just stop playing all together.

1 of 5 worked great, then just didn't work Tuesday, February 26, 2008 steph from rochester, ny
we had this unit for maybe a month and were in the middle of a movie when it started skipping. turned it off and on again and the load disc icon just kept spinning. won't recognize any discs. so sad since it was such a good deal! Was this review helpful?
1 of 5 unit only worked for 3 hours Friday, February 22, 2008 Steve Schwartz from Atlantic City, NJ
Got this unit as a gift from a casino. It only worked for 3 hours and then failed to operate at all while the disc was still inside. Later, it did not recognize the disc being in there and failed to operate at all. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 small to all Monday, January 21, 2008 aliwash1 from Culver City, California
This upconverting DVD player is smaller than it looks in the pictures. It's about half the size of a "slim" profile normal DVD player. It does have full feature controls for DVD playback and the upconversion is a plus. I really can't tell the difference between the old standard DVD playback and this new upconverting playback, but I am not using an HDMI connection. All in all, you can't beat the price, and aside from the size, it looks pretty nice. I am satisfied. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Good, Could be Better Monday, January 21, 2008 A Customer from New York, NY
A great value, but a few nuisances: noisy motor, the HDMI connector was broken in the first one shipped, and the DVD tray is a little flimsy. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Meets and Exceeds Expectations! Wednesday, January 16, 2008 Mike from Salt Lake City, Utah
Both Buy.com and Coby have exceeded my expectations. The DVD player works as advertised at an incredible price; and, to top it off, Buy.com fulfilled the order in record time. I am completely satisfied with my purchase! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great inexpensive DVD player Wednesday, January 16, 2008 A Customer from Sunnyvale, CA
With the Blu-ray / HD-DVD battle going on it's hard to justify spending a lot of money on a player that may end up being obsolete (remember Laserdisc?!), but in the mean time, this DVD player looks great on my HDTV and makes all of my stardard DVDs look MUCH better.....and you really can't beat the price! 1 of 5 Coby's poor customer service Tuesday, January 15, 2008 referris from Dickinson, Texas
I kept getting the "no disc" message even though there was a DVD Video in the tray. Left it on for 2 hours as per the instructions, to no avail. Called customer service for Coby, and was left on hold...although my call was important to them. Sent an e-mail to the manufacturer's tech support. Got an answer almost 4 days later suggesting that I return the product to Coby and pay for shipping both ways, on a $35 item? I am returning it to buy.com at its expense, but I had to exchange it for another. Buy.com would not refund my money. We shall see if the second one works. Was this review helpful?

Spend a few more bucks with buy and get the Philips DVP5960 HDMI DVD Up-Converter Player. The coby remote is not user friendly with "Bubble" buttons that are inaccurate. It is impossible to use the rewind and foward functions, it skips chapters and that gets frustrating. I just ordered the Phillips because I liked the one I bought before. Also the Phillips will play all regions, the Coby did with great difficulty and reverted back to region 1 after player went to stand by.
I have been trying to give away the Coby and nobody is taking. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Good for the Price Monday, December 10, 2007 A Customer from Chevy Chase , MD
The device is good, it is small, light , easy to use . The only issue is the remote control ( it is too small and the buttons are not friendly located ) . The HD (1080i) only works through HDMI , all other ouputs are 480i. I recommend this product , the price is awesome. The HDMI cable is not included. Was this review helpful?

1 of 5 Don't waste your time Wednesday, November 28, 2007 A Customer from Endicott, NY
I bought this DVD player to get the "half-way house" of HD DVD to go with my new 42" TV also from BUY.com. This thing couldn't play several DVD's and the two that it could recognize, it skipped and jumped until finally giving up and failed to see the disc anymore. I've tried it several times to ensure it wasn't the disc. DOES NOT WORK! Save your money even at 30 bucks it's a terrible deal. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Coby DVD-283 Up-Conversion HDMI DVD Player Wednesday, November 28, 2007 Rob from Manassas, VA
This unit is VERY tiny, but loaded with features. It's an excellent Dorm / Kids room type of DVD player (not really high-end enough for home theater). A little skimpy on the build quality (lots of plastic), but it's an excellent unit for the price. I give it '5' because it meet my expectations (suited my particular needs). I would NOT give it '5' if I had wanted it for home theater purposes... (probably a '3', as it is functional, just a bit cheesy for HT) Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Good product Tuesday, September 25, 2007 A Customer from Philadelphia, PA
Pretty good value for money.
I am sure if one can make a difference in HD up-scaling.
Its a little better than regular DVD player for sure on a HDTV. Was this review helpful?

I was looking for a budget dvd player that does upconversion (for my 720p Panasonic plasma tv) & has HDMI output for my bedroom. So far, there are no kinks of any sort. The setup menu is easy to understand & the small physical size of this dvd player is a bonus. I can't really complain especially for the price. If I have to have a complaint then it would be the remote-control buttons are rather flimsy & cheap but it's really no big if it's only in your bedroom right? I would recommend this product to a friend & the quick service of buy.com. Was this review helpful?
