2 of 5 Not a good buy Friday, May 30, 2008 ch11355 from Flushing, ny
I have used this machine for a while but it is not a good one. It freezed sometimes and the machine went down after 5 months use. I ate this lemon since I lost my receipt. I don't buy any Coby products since then. Was this review helpful?

I purchased one of these in aug 2007 for my sons room in nov 2007 it started giving a disk error for dvds that it has always played. i called cust service. and was told that it was out of warranty and that they dont make this model anymore. so in dec 2007 my mother found one at a walgreens for $22.00. we hooked it up and it worked fine and was different looking than the old one. so i thought it was newer and would last longer. not the case it is now march 2008 i called to let them know that i am getting the same error with the new one, and i was again told that it was out of warranty. and that it is a firmware issue so they are aware of this. i explained that this was the secound unit we have bought in about six or seven months. and that i was not happy with spending my money on something that should last longer. and that this seems to be a problem that is on going with this unit. and wanted it replaced. i was told there is no way we are going to replace your unit.
It is my belief that COBY has designed this product to fail or they are aware of this and wont fix it in order to charge you for the repair. They know this is a problem and wont fix it because they make more when you buy a new unit or send for repair. One would think that something like this would demand a recall how many customers have had this same experience with this company that does not give a crap about thier product or thier customers. 5 of 5 GOOD THINGS DO COME IN SMALL PACKAGES! Saturday, March 01, 2008 jjbrews@cox.net from Las Vegas,NV
I bought this Unit after seeing around the Web, contemplating need of a DVD player to replace a 15 YO VCR in a "custom" wall unit that really did not fit any of the components except the big Sony.
After literally getting the VCR out within a mm of space.
I took out the COBY, read the brief but not over technical setup guide. Minus a Coax that was needed for my old time tech machine; connected the red, yellow, white and power. Viola' instant CRISP Clear Awesome Picture, quick Laser pickup, easy to use.
Twenty-Seven Dollars! and the UPS man used his gas money.
This cant Be Beat.
Getting a GPS next.
Never any trouble with BUY.Com so take a glance at those e-mails,it could be just what you are looking for. Was this review helpful?
2 of 5 Short Life Tuesday, February 12, 2008 nava209@yahoo.com from Livingston, Ca
Only lasted about 3months then would not read dvd. I had other dvd players for the same price and life is about 2years but this one lasted only 3months. Tried to get another one with warranty, you must send a $12 money order and it takes 6-8 weeks to receive it back plus u must pay to have it shipped to their facility. Not very good customer service either. It's not worth it don't buy this brand COBY!! Was this review helpful?
1 of 5 Coby DVD-224 Thursday, February 07, 2008 davemccolgan@ain.com from Seaford,NY
Unit worked about an hour then failed; accepts disks but doesn't play them. By time I realized the problem it was too late to return to Buy.com. The warranty requires me to pay shipping both ways to Coby, a $12 mo for return shipping, this would equal the cost of the player. I just wanted a simple DVD player, I didn't think they would ship such a poor quality item. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Good buy! Tuesday, February 05, 2008 marie from woodbridge va

1 of 1 customers found this review helpful. 2 of 5 Cheap machine but worth even less Monday, February 04, 2008 FairViewer from Jersey City, NJ
I regretted the purchase even before I received the machine because a local supermarket has a better Coby model DVD player selling for even less.
The remote is not what pictured and very primitive to use. The machine can't be turned off by the remote. It is just too basic for any convenient use. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 great value! Friday, February 01, 2008 goatmilksoap2001@yahoo.com from grantsville, wv
i must say that this little dvd player is well worth the reasonable price - takes up little space and has worked fine since i purchased it a couple of months ago. would certainly recommend it to anyone.
as usual, the service from buy.com was flawless.

The Coby DVD player arrived quickly and in perfect condition. It is perfect size to take little space, easy to install and plays great. Excellent value for a DVD player. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great buy! Thursday, January 10, 2008 Cheryl from Central Texas
As advertised, works great, super price! I am very happy with the quality, price and performance. I also like the smaller size, of both the player and the remote, although the remote gets lost in my husbands recliner too easily! LOL! A real bargain! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great value and Fast Service Sunday, December 23, 2007 A Customer from Chandler, AZ
This DVD player delivers high end performance for a low price. Its compact size is a plus. There are no down sides to this product, other than prompting the nagging question of how they can make such a great product for such a reasonable price. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Plays everything and no issues Saturday, December 22, 2007 Ravi from Santa clara, CA

5 of 5 works fine Friday, November 30, 2007 Del from Chicago, IL
Easy to set up, works fine out of the box. Not sure how durable it'll be, but it plays fine, is tiny, and it's affordable. Was this review helpful?
1 of 5 Absolute disaster Wednesday, November 28, 2007 al_talkington@alumni.utexas.net from Round Rock, TX
Bought several cheap DVD players for the grand kids. This one is the absolute worst. It simply doesn't work. The first DVD I tried the picture just broke up, froze, and skipped. I plugged in another equally cheap (Westinghouse branded) DVD player and it played the DVD fine - no problems at all. So leave this one off the list. The only good news is that it was too inexpensive to mess with returning it so I threw it in the trash. Was this review helpful?
1 of 5 Died on me after 100 days of light use Sunday, November 18, 2007 User from California from Los Angeles, CA
This unit died just after the warranty expired. It first started skipping on a DVD and then stopped completely. Now it won't even eject or open the DVD loading door. I have not been able to contact the manufacturer, but the web site says 90 day warranty, which means I have wasted my money completely. Was this review helpful?
1 of 1 customers found this review helpful. 5 of 5 Great little deal Tuesday, October 02, 2007 A Customer from Fairfield, CA
Now I splurged another $7- and got this one with the upsampling and HDMI out, and it works just fine, if not of course as well as my Oppo. I use the HDMI output on my unit, so do go for the big brother and not this one.
The tiny size is perfect in my guestroom. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great DVD player Tuesday, June 12, 2007 Rich S from Effingham, IL.
I have a Go Video VCR DVD player and it has been outstanding for me for the past 7 years and it is now being replaced with this Coby DVD player. WHY? It's compact size, it has great clarity, and is exceptionally easy to use and for the price, Phenomenal$$$$$$$ I encourage everyone or anybody to buy it for this price, you will not be disappointed!! 5 of 5 Great Player Tuesday, May 29, 2007 Naren from Roselle, 60172
I'd been looking for a dvd player which played anything I'd throw in it. This seems to be doing just that. It plays everyhing I put in it...VCDs, MP3...etc. It was a good buy for the money. Was this review helpful?
4 of 4 customers found this review helpful. 4 of 5 Great small sized option Thursday, April 26, 2007 A Customer from Burlington, VT
With 2 little kids always "helping" with the DVD player, this is a nice, inexpensive option. Play functions and picture quality are every bit as good as the $300 model we had to replace. The compact design frees up space in TV area. And, for the price, if we have to replace in 6 months or a year, that's ok. My only concern is that most functionality (menu, skip, fast forward, etc.) requires use of the remote which doesn't seem very sturdy. The player itself has buttons for only Open/Close, Play, and Stop. But, all in all, I recommend this product and would buy again. Was this review helpful? |
