I am very disappointed by this product. The specifics are great, but the actual product plain sucks. The picture quality is inferior to Kodak and hocking the frame up to a computer via USB port does only work occasionally. You have to copy files to the SD card using a card reader and put the SD card in the unit. Hocking up the unit to a Vista PC did only work occasionally. Conclusion: Don't buy this product - you can get more for less money. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Very Pleased Wednesday, April 09, 2008 A Customer from Ashford, AL
Glad I did some research! the high resolution in this model is well worth the price. Crisp Clear Pictures! A great buy when most of the rest had much less resolution. Was this review helpful?

I decided to buy this after reading a LOT of reviews of various digital frames.
<Br><Br>
Here are the various cons (some might be repeated from reviews below).
<Br><Br>
1. I used an SD card. Simply take an SD card. Don't make any folders in it. Dump in the photos and the mp3s. Plug in the SD card to the frame. Switch on the frame and hit the slideshow button. It displays the photos with random effects between photos. It also picks up the mp3s and plays them in a continuous manner going back to the starting mp3 once all the songs have been played.
<Br><Br>
2. If you have a computer with a USB port. Plugin the SUPPLIED USB cable to your machine and the other end to the digital frame. (Remember to keep the digital frame switched ON for the computer to pick up the SD card in the frame). Once it recognizes you can easily transfer pics/mp3s to the SD card "WITHOUT" the need to remove the SD card from the frame. Or you can remove the SD card from the frame and plug it in your computer if you have an SD card slot in your computer.
<Br><Br>
3. Since we take most of our photos in the landscape/horizontal mode, the photos diplayed by the 8" frame COVER THE ENTIRE DISPLAYED AREA. Only photos taken in potrait/vertical orientation, have black areas to the left and right. But that is OK since we take most of our photos horizontally.
<Br><Br>
4. It is very bright and the fotos are crystal clear. Remember to switch it off when leaving the house to preserve the life of the LCD display.
<Br><Br>
4. The built in speakers are more than enough.
<Br><Br>
5. A supplied remote is useful in avoiding touching the frame/pressing the buttons on the frame.

Overall I'm highly satisfied and the product is as described above and in the reviews. Great value. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Nice Product! Saturday, February 23, 2008 A Customer from Silver Spring, MD
Read alot of reviews and looked at similar items at retail stores.
Decided on the 8" version of Colby vs smaller and larger as well as the wide screen versions. After loading JPEG digital pictures, AVI video, MP3 music files, and configuring the product, the slideshow with music worked well. The AVI files came up but in a small frame. I deleted those files and loaded more pictures. Bought this for my Mom and plan to buy another for my mother-in-law. Good product for a good price. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great Product Wednesday, January 16, 2008 A Customer from Nashville, Tennessee
Everything they say about this product is true. It has great resolution, viewing angles, internal speakers and connects straight to the computer via the USB cable. My only complaint is that not all memory cards fit. I have the Sony MS cards for my camera and they didn't fit, nor did the owners manual explain what cards specifically fit. I bought a SD card (1 GB) and i have tons of storage space. Was this review helpful?

It's easy to setup, and works like charm! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great digital frame Monday, December 17, 2007 A Customer from Putnam Valley, NY
Bought 3 of these to give as birthday and christmas presents. Pre-loaded a few pictures onto one for the birthday girl as an added surprise. Directions are pretty good but still took me a little longer than I wanted to figure out how to load the pictures. Haven't had a chance to test out the other functions yet, but the pictures look great and the slide show runs perfectly! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 great frame Wednesday, December 12, 2007 A Customer from NC
The picture frame is great. The menus take a minute to check out, but not too bad. A previous review had a great recommendation, to set the resolution of your pictures to 800 x 600. I used Picasa2 ( the free download from Google). I keep my pictures in there anyway. I created an album with the ones I wanted in the frame, then "created a gift CD" which allows you to set the resolution of all the pictures. I did over 200 in one batch to a CD, then copied from the CD to a memory card. Good luck! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Easy to Set Up!!!! Saturday, December 01, 2007 A Customer from El Dorado, KS
I bought this for my 72 year old mother for Chirstmas and took it out of the box to set it up. It is amazing. I put a SD card in pushed a few buttons on the remote and it was working. I didn't even have to read the instructions. I thought I'd try some music so I put some songs on the SD card, slipped the card into the frame, chose music and there it went. Very easy. Great picture. Good buy and now the price is lower than what I paid. Hate it when that happens. Was this review helpful?

I bought this frame for my wife for mothers' day, but my whole family loves it! Many others have seen this frame in action, too, and all have had very positive reactions. It's a great way to display all of those digital photos which would otherwise stay in storage most of the time. Here are the best things for me: (1) This frame has the same 4:3 aspect ratio as our digital camera so it was a perfect match. All photos will be sized automatically by the frame for best fit within the frame (i.e. horizontal photos fill the frame completely, and verticals fill the frame vertically with black on either side - an effect which did not bother me at all). You DO NOT need to resize your photos to match this frame's resolution, though. Only if you don't like the black space on either side of the verticals would you need to crop your vertical photos, but that is true for ANY digital frame. If you have a ton of vertical photos and don't care about horizontals, just put the frame in vertical orientation, and make sure your vertical photos are rotated on their side. (2) The large, 8" screen has excellent, sharp image quality and is easily viewable from across the room. (3) The ability to use USB flash memory drives was a big plus for me, since I can load those up with photos easily through my computer's USB port (I have a lot of family photos stored on my computer). This is a unique feature on the COBY frames, although you will notice the drive sticking out from the side of the frame. The frame also supports all the common camera cards, which are better hidden. The frame also supports a direct USB computer connection, but does not contain much memory (14MB); so it won't hold many photos without a USB drive or camera card attached. (4) The frame is very easy to use. Just load up a bunch of JPG or BMP photos, add some MP3 or WMA songs, plug it in and it's ready to go. It finds the images and music files automatically. You select what kind of slide show you want with the remote(i.e. music, no music, pick one transition effect or random transitions between each photo, sequential or random photo display, sequential or random music selection, video or no video, etc.), hit the slide show button and you're in business. I have used the slide show with photos and music, and it works very well. Sound quality from the built-in speakers is not high end, but the audio from the headphone jack is quite nice. I have not tried video, yet. The drawbacks: (1) The stand seems to be a weakness on this frame. I'm not sure why they designed it to be so flimsy. So far it has held out; but if you have kids, keep this out of their reach. (2) A battery option would be nice so that the frame could be placed anywhere, but this is not a big drawback for us. Overall we have been extremely pleased with this choice. Having music with the photo slide shows is an extremely nice feature. Was this review helpful?
10 of 10 customers found this review helpful. 5 of 5 So far, everything is great! Meets my expectation Monday, April 30, 2007 gbleeker@hotmail.com from La Vista, Nebraska
Ok, to those who have written bad reviews about Coby frames (specifically the 7 inch frame).. either you didn't know what to buy properly or you didn't have a reasonable idea of what to expect for the money.
Let me start off by saying that the frame is wonderful, it looks crisp, bright, and sharp. The pictures are not one bit blurry and all of my pictures that are horizonal shots fill the up frame entirely (read below). The only negative thing I would point out, is that the stand for the frame doesn't appear to be super-strong and will probably give out at some point. That, right now, would be the only thing I would change.
Let me describe 2 things:
1) When buying a digital frame, expect to have black bars on the top (or bottom) and sides of the picture unless you match your camera's resolution to the frame. My camera (a Nikon) takes photos in 800 x 600. So, I was going to buy the 7 inch frame, but noticed the resolution was not in the same aspect ratio (4:3). Therefore, I went with the 8 inch frame, which yes.. was significantly more (same price as the 10 inch frame - which I also didn't go with due to the resolutions not matching). I have not been disappointed one bit. Using FastStone Photo Resizer, I selected all my images from my camera, including my wedding photos (which are not quite 4:3) and resized them as new files to 800 x 600 (retaining my original files in their original format of course). This displays every picture in the full frame, as long as it is horizontally taken by the photographer. Bottom line = buy a frame that matches the majority of your pictures' aspect ratios and you will not be disappointed. Sidenote: I put over 500 pictures on the frame with just a 128 MB card after they were resized - talk about easy! 128 MB cards are a matter of dollars now.
2) Something no reviews for any of the Coby products have talked about yet... the Slideshow and other setup options available. For slideshow, you have several different effects that can be used, and you also can randomize the photos during slideshow. Of course, time between each picture is also an option. This was important to me because I didn't want the frame starting at the same spot after everytime I turned it off, and not being able to randomly go through pictures. Some frames don't have this option, but this 8 inch Coby frame DOES and I assume the others would too (but don't know for sure, no one has written that they do in their reviews).
Overall, there seem to be plenty of options, for a cheaper frame, it has the best resolution for the price (800 x 600), plays music and video (both of which I have NOT tested yet - more later), has 2 frames (black and white), and looks great!
Don't let people dissuade you from purchasing this frame (and I would assume other Coby frames as well). Just make sure you understand formatting pictures; you have to match your pictures to the resolution of the frame. IF you buy a frame that is 840 x 480 - take a current picture you have on your computer and resize it to those dimensions and see how much of the picture is lost.. is it stretched to where it looks funny or odd? Then that is the wrong frame for you. Don't buy the cheapest frame and expect every picture to fit exactly right. This frame above is 800 x 600 (4:3 aspect ratio) and my camera takes 4:3 so it worked wonderfully for me! I couldn't be happier for the price.
Sorry this is so long, but I wanted to hit on some points I was worried about when I bought it, so now others don't have to worry about the same points I did.
Buy it!
