Notes & Personnel Info | | This collection of 1980s dance tracks includes Jenny Burton's "Bad Habits," Larry Graham's "I'm Sick And Tired," and "Mt. Airy Groove" from Pieces Of A Dream. | | The sequel to Warner Strategic Marketing's 2003-released Club Connection, this disc relies a little more on the tail end of the post-disco era -- the period between disco's peak and house's birth, when use of electronics and programming and slick pop melodies were becoming increasingly common -- and throws in a couple cuts from the late '80s. The tracks by the likes of Chaka Khan ("Eye to Eye"), Patrice Rushen ("Feels So Real"), Larry Graham ("I'm Sick and Tired"), and Kleeer ("Intimate Connection") aren't likely to be thought of as any of the artists' top ten -- or maybe even 20 -- moments, but they'd certainly get more attention from crate-diggers if they had instead been released by relative unknowns. Highlights here include Slave's "Watching You," Lenny White's "Didn't Know About Love ('Til I Found You)," and Karyn White's "The Way You Love Me." The disc is not as solid as the first volume, but it's almost entirely enjoyable if you have an ear for the era. ~ Andy Kellman |
