3 of 5 Half-hearted implementation Tuesday, November 03, 2009 A Customer from South Jersey
This could have been so much more. My gripes:
-Does not play H.264, MP4 movies. This is a common format for HD quality movies. I hope Cirago comes out with a firmware update soon.
-Remote does not work well. You have to point it point it directly at the unit and still plan on repeated button presses.
-Cannot function as a NAS. Yes, you can download files to the unit via it's interface but the interface is clunky. It would be much better if I can send stuff to it from my computer over the network.
-No DLNA support.
If I had known about the limitations back when I purchased this back in July, then I definitely would have held off and waited for something more full-featured. Was this review helpful?

Really Really Really needs good software upgrade.
Has a TON of potential, it has all the hardware it needs, sadly, software is hugely lacking, and remote is crap in terms of distance. The software, together with the questionable remote make it almost unusable.
There is a lot wrong with it;
Things that are almost "bugs":
WPA2 flat-out does not work
NTLM2 does not work.
Very annoying "preview" of videos... starts them running and locks machine for a few seconds.
remote is missing a "menu button" for DVDs.
no way to determine MAC of device for secured WLAN/LAN.
network setup is browsing-based and interminably frustrating.. should be a way to edit items such as /etc/hosts or LMHOSTS.
network browsing is not so good at bookmarking deep directories.
Things it really should do (but doesn't) given its hardware:
Netflix, Youtube, etc all sorts of internet streaming.
Cannot share it's internal disk on network.
Cannot write to internal disk via network client if NTFS.
icons for audio album browsing as well as movies.
Network control.
random photo slideshow
random audio play
audio playlist from network location.
The good stuff:
plays vorbis
Vid quality is good (imo) and seems to work ok HDMI hidef
Aud quality is good (imo).
Really nice now that I can have DVDs on my server as files, DVDs are all stored in basement out of the living room.

I love this device. I bought this for movies. I hated picking up all the dvd's the kids left laying around all scratched up.I bought this device and put all my kids favorites on it. It reads ISO format so it was very easy. I have to say the kids love it and I love it. We are a military family and move alot. This device can be taken with us anywhere. I do plan on getting one for each of my kids room. I haven't tried mp3 on it as I have the ipod for that. I haven't tried tivo or recording tv shows because I have a cable box for recording. so....
Overall I am very pleased with this device. Finally someone came up with something cool and convientant. Was this review helpful?

When I purchased this unit I wanted a very simple feature, to be able to record one TV channel while watching another channel. This is not possible. You can only record what you are watching, or record TV and simultaneously watch your previous recordings.
Also the buttons on the remote does not work well. Was this review helpful?
