Hey, it makes as much sense as Run-DMC's "Christmas in Hollis," and the good news is that the Lynyrd Skynyrd boys--along with special guests the Charlie Daniels Band and .38 Special--truly get into the spirit with a nice mix of seasonal standards (rock and otherwise) and originals. Among the latter, the Daniels Band provides a frankly terrifying "Devil Went Down to Georgia"-derived take on "Santa Claus is Coming to Town," while Skynyrd crunch through Chuck Berry's "Run, Rudolph Run" with Stones-like aplomb. | | On the originals front, .38 Special score big with "Mama's Song," a Southern rock power pop hybrid in their best '80s style, although it must be said that these self-proclaimed wild-eyed Southern boys have a sentimental streak a mile wide (and when their song is followed by Skynyrd's near-obscene "Santa Claus Wants Some Lovin'," it's a tad disconcertin'...). In any case, the album concludes, nicely, with a little harmonizing by the entire Skynyrd family (kids, relatives, road crew, dogs, etc). Fun stuff. | Engineer: Danny Chauncey; Mike Janas; Patrick Kelly; Ben Fowler | Musical Guests | | Charlie Daniels | | .38 Special |

| | Bio | | Lynyrd Skynyrd has been synonymous with Southern Rock n Roll music for over 25 years. Vocalist Ronnie Van Zant and guitarists Allen Collins and Gary Rossington formed My Backyard while in high school in Jacksonville, FL. Soon after, they added bassist Leon Wilkeson, keyboardist Billy Powell, and drummer Bob Burns. They changed their name to Lynyrd Skynyrd, derived from their gym teacher Leonard Skinner, known for punishing students with long hair. Guitarist Ed King joined the band before the recording of their 1973 debut album, Pronounced Leh-Nerd Skin-Nerd. In 1974, their multi-Platinum 2nd album Second Helping produced the hit single "Sweet Home Alabama", and drummer Artimus Pyle replaced Bob Burns in late 1974. Nuthin' Fancy, released in 1975, was the band's 1st Top 10 album. Guitarist Steve Gaines joined the band before the recording of the 1976 double-live album One More From The Road--their 2nd Top 10 album. Their 6th album, Street Survivors was released on October 17, 1977. 3 days later, en route to a show in Baton Rouge, their privately-chartered plane crashed outside Gillsburg, MS. Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines and his sister, backup vocalist Cassie Gaines, were killed. The rest of the band was injured. The group disbanded. Rossington and Collins formed a new band of 4 surviving band members in 1980, and Pyle formed the Artimus Pyle Band in 1982. Collins was left paralyzed after a 1986 car crash, in which his girlfriend was killed. He died in 1990 from respiratory failure. Lynyrd Skynyrd reunited in 1987 with Rossington, Powell, King, Wilkeson, new vocalist Johnny Van Zant and new guitarist Randall Hall. Their reunion tour was captured on the 1988 double-live album Southern By The Grace Of God/Lynyrd Skynyrd Tribute Tour --1987. Van Zant, Rossington, Wilkeson and Powell added former Blackfoot frontman Rickey Medlocke, ex-Outlaw Hughie Thomasson and former Damn Yankee drummer Michael Cartellone to the band. The group signed with CMC in 1997 and released new studio album Twenty, followed by Lyve From Steel Town in 1998, Edge Of Forever in 1999 and Then And Now in June 2000.
