| | | Features: DVD, Pan and Scan (TV Format), Aspect Ratio 1.33:1, English, French, Spanish, Subtitled A screen and video classic, Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol has become as much of a December tradition as lighted trees, holly berries and mistletoe. Overworked and underpaid clerk Bob Cratchit (Gene Lockhart) and his loving family hope for a holiday of feasting and good cheer. Cratchit's rich employer Ebenezer Scrooge (Reginald Owen) scoffs at Victorian London's Yuletide spirit, threatening both his immortal soul and the Cratchits' Christmas. Terry Kilburn portrays Cratchit's endearing, frail, crippled son Tiny Tim. On Christmas Eve, the ominous ghosts of past, present and future convince Scrooge that he faces a choice. He can live out his days despised and unhappy or change his ways and savor the joys of the season. A Christmas Carol is a rewarding holiday treat for all who want to keep the real meaning of Christmas in their hearts. "We recommend it to all! ...Heartening, serene and touching." The New York Times
 Editor's Note
Though not quite on a par with the same-titled film starring Alistair Sim, this version of A CHRISTMAS CAROL is still a moving version of the classic story. A wealthy miser learns how wonderful and fulfilling life can be with a little generosity at Christmas time from three spectres who visit him the night before Christmas.

| | Professional Reviews | The Motion Picture Guide 10 of 10 Superb adaptation of the Dickens classic has Owen as the hardhearted Scrooge in probably the best role of his long and distinguished career. Lockhart is terrific as the much-harassed Cratchit and the rest of the cast do honors to their historic parts. Although this wonderful story has been made many times, the Owen rendition of the skinflint-turned-Maecenas is the best and most believable... Owen represents the essential Scrooge... A great and eternally heartwarming film that can stand an appreciative viewing every year through every decade.
