B.G. already had several albums to his credit by the time of Chopper City in the Ghetto, which was his first to be released in the wake of Cash Money's distribution deal with Universal Records, but this was the one to break him nationally, as both "Cash Money Is an Army" and "Bling Bling" became hits on urban radio and video television (particularly on BET). As is the case with all Cash Money releases of the era, Mannie Fresh produces all the tracks, and associate rappers Juvenile, Lil Wayne, Turk, and the Big Tymers are frequently featured. ~ Jason Birchmeier | | Besides the street-level gangsta clich?s inherent in tracks like "Niggas N Trouble," "Play'n & Laugh'n" and "All on U," B.G.'s smooth flow and laidback raps make Chopper City a solid album, even packed in the middle of his hectic release schedule. The productions on highlights like "Uptown Thang: Wait'n on Your Picture" and "All on U" stick to midtempo G-funk, but are inventive and solid nevertheless. ~ Keith Farley | | One of Cash Money Records' highest profile artists, B.G. (short for Baby Gangster) kicks clever, darkly painted tales of ghetto life over heavy, rolling beats and subtly ominous, minor-key loops. What B.G.'s high, unaffected voice lacks in range and intonation is made up for in the pure flow of his delivery. | | His lyrics detail crime scenarios, codes of street conduct and camradarie, and (most importantly, it seems) the process of making and keeping money. Titles such as "Cash Money Is An Army," "Made Man," "Cash Money Roll," and "'Bout My Paper"-among others-bear out this agenda. All are rendered with a combination of ease, bravado, and sophistication. Cameos from friends Big Tymers, Hot Boys, and Juvenile keep things varied throughout this solid collection of tracks. | | One of Cash Money Records' highest profile artists, B.G.
