| | Album Notes and Credits | Notes & Personnel Info | | Original Soundtrack/Cheetah Girls: Raven-Symon?, Adrienne Bailon, Kiely Williams, Sabrina "Dorinda" Bryan. | | The soundtrack to The Cheetah Girls, a Disney Channel movie starring Raven and based on Deborah Gregory's book series, features music that is slightly better than the usual cookie-cutter teen pop found on most of Disney's other TV soundtracks. Although songs like "Cinderella" and "Cheetah Girls" are definitely in the teen pop mold, they feature more distinctive productions and performances, which only makes sense considering that The Cheetah Girls is about a group of independent-minded young women who find themselves through singing together. The Cheetah Girls themselves -- who include Raven as well as Kiely Williams and Adrienne Bailon from 3LW and Sabrina Bryan from The Bold and the Beautiful -- have surprisingly strong voices and sound especially good on the two aforementioned songs, both of which borrow a page from the Destiny's Child songbook. "Girl Power," meanwhile sounds a bit like Britney Spears' earliest hits and doesn't showcase the Cheetah Girls' vocals as well. Neither does "Together We Can," which sounds a little bit like the grandmothers of the current teen pop generation, Spice Girls. The rest of the soundtrack features more Disney teen pop acts; of these, Char's slinky "Girlfriend" and the sugar-sweet rock of Hope 7's "Breakthrough" are the standouts. The Cheetah Girls also includes remixes of "Cinderella" and "Girl Power," along with a karaoke version of the entire soundtrack. Overall, The Cheetah Girls is a fun fluffy soundtrack, and its interactive features make it even more fun for any aspiring Cheetah Girls (or Boys). ~ Heather Phares | | From the Disney Channel comes a TV movie adaptation of Deborah Gregory's Cheetah Girls book series. It's the continuing adventures of a smart, sassy singing group as they make their way in the pop music world with nothing but their wits and musical chops to guide them. Along the way, they live a little, rock a little, and learn a lot. That's pretty much the story line for the onscreen version of this junior girl power romp, which features Raven Symone of Disney's That's So Raven! as Galleria; 3LW's Adrienne Bailon and Kiely Williams as Chanel and Aquanette, respectively; and actress Sabrina Bryan as Dorinda. The quartet performs four songs on The Cheetah Girls soundtrack, including their theme song and a cut called -- no surprise here -- "Girl Power." Musically, it's cookie-cutter pop-dance material spiced with some light urban touches, akin to third- and fourth-tier acts like Willa Ford or Eden's Crush. This makes sense, since it was produced by Ray Cham, a studio whiz who's worked with Crush and hopefuls like Vi3. The Cheetah Girls is fleshed out with a few likeable, if forgettable, tunes that further the stick-to-itiveness vibe of the film. Of these, the best is the fizzy, Go-Go's-ish "Breakthrough" performed by the mysterious Hope 7. There's no denying the positivity that guides The Cheetah Girls concept. It's just too bad that the group's sound is so devoid of any originality. ~ Johnny Loftus | | Imagine a sonic collision between the Spice Girls, Josie & the Pussycats, and Lizzie Maguire, and you'll have a pretty accurate picture of the Cheetah Girls. The fearsome female foursome's story began with a series of books, but in due course there came a Cheetah Girls movie detailing the girls' musical adventures, and consequently this soundtrack. | | Like the Spice Girls, they espouse the joys of "Girl Power" with a pulsing, danceable sound that borrows from pop, hip-hop, and R&B, adding a liberal dose of post-Britney teen-pop. While several of the tracks here center around the Cheetahs, there are some other artists present as well. Sonic Chaos contributes the celebratory rap tune "C'mon" and Hope 7 offers some hard-charging, female-fronted rock in an Avril Lavigne mode for an effective change of pace. | Producer: Ray "Sol Survivor" Cham |
