| Author Bio| Erich Von Daniken | | Born in Switzerland to a Roman Catholic family, Erich von Daniken left school at 19 and worked in a hotel. In CHARIOTS OF THE GODS, his first book, he announced his hypothesis that alien astronauts visited the earth in ancient times, and that records of this can be discerned in the Bible and other sources. He also asserted that these aliens were the builders of many archaeological sites. His book became a huge best seller worldwide, bringing much criticism and mockery, yet firing people's imaginations, much in the way that the X-FILES television show did decades later. His critics cited his encounters with the law and charges of embezzlement and fraud--and perhaps a jail stay--while he worked as a hotelier.
