These celebrities -- and indeed they are -- who "helped shape history" consist of no more than six of them. All but two -- Elvis and the Beatles -- are given multiple tracks to espouse their views on all sorts of things. Muhammad Ali talks entertainingly on his fights, and about the Black Panthers. Joe DiMaggio offers advice for young players, reminisces on his childhood and joining the Yankees, his heroes, and his retirement (the most historic moment of his segment of the CD). Michael Jordan talks about himself as Michael Jordan(!); his family, his "final" retirement (although there's still some doubt about that finality), and the kinds of challenges he faces as a celebrity and retired athlete. There are some substantive moments here, as well, and most of them come from the late Princess Diana, who speaks on AIDS awareness and her crusades against land mines and leprosy, but her musings about retiring from public life and on "perfection" are almost hilariously embarrassing. Ali's segments are completely entertaining and engaging and reflect his bemused willingness to engage the press for its own sake and turn their words against them. The single cuts from the Beatles and Elvis are just filler -- most everything here is filler but these come off as somehow worse -- because they are taken from random press conferences and literally say nothing. These celebrities helped change history by being famous, this document seems to say, ignoring the true contributions each of these people made to history.
