5 of 5 It Really Does Work Friday, May 15, 2009 A Customer from Denver, CO
I bought one of these to go with the HDTV that I bought my parents for Christmas. The TV I bought only had one HDMI input and I knew at best we would have three components to connect to it if they upgraded to HD with their staelitte company. In the end they did not upgrade, so we have two comoponents, an upconveerting DVD player and a PS3 connected to it. It DOES automatically sense which device you are using and change accordingly. We also occasionally connect a computer as well using HDMI and it always senses that as well. One strange thing I have noticed is that the PS3 will alwys win if both devices are powered on regardless of which port it is connected to. I am back now to buy one for myself as I have finally bought my own HDTV. I am not sure why others would not work, but the automatic-ness and compact size of it make it a win-win for me. The only reason I bought this switch was the claim that it would automatically sense the source that is powered up and switch the hdmi signal to that source. Well, it doesn't work. You must manually switch between sources. I'd have to say if it doesn't do what it is advertised to do, it is utterly useless. Was this review helpful?

I have mine hooked up to an upscaling DVD player with HDMI out, a DirecTV HD receiver, and a Panasonic plasma TV.
It definitely switches the HDMI, and I haven't noticed any problems related to the signal. So in that respect I'm satisfied.
But it's not "auto" anything. I tried hooking the inputs up to ports 1 and 3 (nicest physical arrangement) as well as ports 1 and 2 (nicest? logical arrangement), and in neither case will the box "intelligently auto-select". When I push the button to switch, it does so quickly and without complaint, but as far as I'm concerned it's completely manual. Was this review helpful?
