Cavalry CAXA 1TB USB 2.0 / eSATA - 7200RPM 16MB Cache External Hard Drive - CAXA3701T0

Not sure if it was just my bad luck but my drive went bad after about 400 GB was saved on it. The error was 'delayed write failed' from Windows and existing folders became useless. Only new folders could be created. I hope to be able to return/exchange under warranty from Cavalry. More importantly, I wish I had not bought this. My other smaller drives of other make are doing OK.

Super deal for external drive. If you have an eSATA connection use it - you'll have access to the full speed of the drive and can even install an OS on it (can be bootable). The USB 2.0 connection works, but once you see the difference you'll never use anything but eSATA (get an adapter card to add one desktop or laptop)

I haven't had it much more than a month, so I can't speak for reliabiliy, but it's a solid, nice-looking drive that runs nice and cool. Like most other reviewers, I feel the LED is a bit bright, but I can live with it. It does look cool when the blue flashes to red with drive activity. So far I've only used USB, and it's as fast as one could expect. I'm most likely going to buy another one for use on my DVR as soon as it goes on sale again...and I'll just stick it behind the DVR so I don'e see the bright light and/or put some electical tape over the LED. One thing I really like about this drive is that it has a toggle power switch, not a "soft" power switch, so if there is a power failure, when the power comes back, so does the drive (essential for a DVR!). I've seen OTHER manufacturer's drive that have a soft-power switch that you must press to turn the drive on after loss of power (bad for a DVR).

Nice solid sturdy case, runs very quiet and cool, fast with USB and faster with eSATAii. They have been reliable. The light is VERY bright which could be an advantage or disadvantage. There is no question when the drive is being accesses, but then I like LBLs (Little Blinking Lights) giving me realtime information. I purchased 5 of these drives and will use them to back up snapshot images of all my servers, changing them out once a week and taking them off site. Perfect disaster recovery, and depending on your snapshot software (Drive Snapshot), a quick and easy bare metal restore.

This is a great hard drive. Fast shipping as usual. Completely plug and play. Nice that it has the dual interface of USB & eSATA. Now I need to install an eSATA interface to my computer. This drive is already formatted to NTFS which is a wonderful plus. I thought that for $109 with free shipping that you couldn't beat the price, but I was wrong. Now they have this drive for $99. I will definitely be getting another 1TB Calvary from Buy.com. The only downside to this drive is that it does not shut itself off when my computer does. It has a manual power switch on the back. Aside from that minor annoyance it works perfectly. I would recommend this drive to anyone.

Simple easy and complete. Oh yea, it was only $100. I looked at a number of externals and this one won when I saw the performance specs. It's easily twice as fast as the WD MyBook Pro. A bit about shipping; the unit was in my mail on Tuesday after Ordering it on Saturday. I chose the free shipping.

Free delivery, plug and play, works like a champ. What more can you expect? Bought it mainly as a backup device, so it doesn't get a lot of use, but so far, so good.

I've only had it for about three weeks, but so far it's worked really, really well. VERY easy to set up. It was already formatted so I didn't have to go through that process. I do have one compliant, there was no manual sent with the product. So I had to download it from the Cavalry website. That sort of aggravated me. This purchase from Buy.com was a very good experience. I would certainly look to buy from them again.

Well i bought this as a replacement for my 250 GB Western Digital Mybook as i was running out of space and i gotta say it works just grand. It was preformatted to NTFS as advertised and windows xp and the the Windows 7 beta both detected it Automaticaly and i was up and running right away. The speeds are just fine hovering at 20-25 MB/s which is what i was getting with my Mybook. I don't have any complains but would like to mention that it uses a power switch and does not turn off and on with the computer as the Mybook did.

This external 1tb drive is a very good deal. It worked from the git go and is extremely fast using my USB 2.0 port. If I had to do it all over again I would do it in a heart beat.

Worked very well right out of the box. The esata feature works super fast for me. I used it to create a ghost image of my hard drive and it took less than a half-hour.

I have used Cavalry drives before, so I decided to trade up and go from my 500GB Cavalry drive to this 1TB drive. WOW! The unit itself is around 20% smaller than the 500Gb, runs very quiet, and is much cooler than the 500GB after extended usage. i use the USB connection, so I can't comment on the eSata. At this price, this is another exceptional Cavalry drive. Thanks, Cavalry and Buy.com!!!

This is a nice drive at a great price. I use the eSata connection only! The transfer speed is about the average speed listed. You will need to buy a eSata cable. But, the USB cable comes with it. The light on the front is a little to bright and can be blocked with some tape. The drive is quite and stay's cool.

Pros: Easy eSATA installation. Substantially faster transfers than with USB 2.0. Runs cool. Unit is small enough to easily tuck out of sight, which is good because... Cons: Very bright activity light is always on. Large power brick. Had to spend another $22 for eSATA cable and SATA to eSATA slot plate, even though box clearly states that these are included.

I use it for movies, and it does not slow down loads in nice. Very nice on vista plug and play no problems, up and loading in in 2 minutes.

No problems with set-up. Plug and play worked fine without having to install. Speed seems fine too. It would be nice if it had a stand-by mode to avoid having to turn it on and off.

If you want to store media files or create a media center computer you need MORE than adequate storage space. A 1tb drive is a great place to start. This drive is both reliable and economical. In the computer world it just doesn't get any better than that.

This hard drive is a excellent buy. I just connected the power source and USB wire and the rest is history. Although it's 1 Terabyte it only gives you 931 GIGS but that is common with all hard drives.

I purchased a the drive as a backup for my main harddrive and am thus far pleased with its performance. I'm using it via USB connection and Syncback freeware to do the scheduled sync and backup. The drive size is compact for the 1T of storage and priced right, so much so I bought a second drive.

I love it. It's just as fast as my internal 500G hard drive since I hooked it up through the ESATA connector. And I can move it to my other computers when I want.

I'm a photographer and I use a back-up dive to store my pictures and the 500gig was over half full so when I was going to back up 08 pictures it would have almost fulled the 500gig so this 1TB dive is just what I needed and the speed is great.

This is a simple to use. Totally plug and play. Instantly recognized. Already formatted to NTFS. Very, very quiet operation. Okay transfer rate on the USB. Haven't tried the eSATA yet because it did not come with the cable. Everything else was perfect. Great product for the price. Highly recommend it.

The Cavalry operates as advertised and is very quiet. Very easy to setup, just plug it in and it was ready to go. I use it for backup of my laptop and speed was not an issue.

For all the talk about how fast some USB devices are, let's face it, they can still be painfully slow if you are dealing with a large amount of data. I know many computers don't have an eSata interface, and neither did mine. Shop around and you can find a PCI express card that will give you 2 esata ports for under $10, and grab an esata cable for $5. How fast is esata? I've benchmarked this drive as being FASTER than either of my 2 internal (sata ii) drives!! It is a thing of beauty! Although I've only used it for a month or so, this drive has given me no problems (I also have a 500gb Cavalry USB only drive which I have had for many months without problems). At this price, and with the speed of esata, this is the best storage deal around!

The amount of disk space for this price is fantastic, and I have other Cavalry drives as well. Great value. Favorite feature: it creates its own recycle bin folder so when you delete things they stay on the drive until you are sure.

I just want to let you all know that my experience with buying items from Buy.com has been great all the time. For this item I was preparing my rebate form application for the 30$ one and I noticed that the white box did not have the UPC barcode attached. I emailed custer service immediately as the deadline for mailing the rebate form was fast approaching. They refunded 30$ onto my account without asking any questions. As the headline says, it's a ***** hard drive, but it works well, and the setup was a snap. The speed, using the USB 2.0 is decent. I am archiving my digital photos and it has freed up a lot of space on my C drive. I thought the purchase price was good, delivery was fast and everything I needed was there. I don't have any way to use the SATA interface so I cannot comment on that, but I hear it's lightning fast. The only downside to these external drives is the need for the AC power supply, which consumes power any time it's plugged in. Additionally, I needed to get yet another USB hub so I could keep the 1 Tb drive connected at all times.

I bought this for the eSATA interface, and it worked great ONCE. After that maiden voyage I couldn't get either of 2 PC's to recognize it when hooked up via eSATA. I tried the USB and it's very fast, but not as fast as the eSATA. I tried to RMA it but had filed a rebate and so had to RMA it through the manufacturer. I'll see how that goes. So far a big hassle, but I don't know what brand is better or worse. I took my chances. It's a nice fast 1Tb single partition though. Too bad the electronics interfacing to that hard drive cratered.

So far so good. Both the USB2.0 & eSATA interfaces work fine. The aesthetics are acceptable, but the HD will end up in my tower so it doesn't matter, and the enclosure will end up in the pile of others I have to be used from time to time, although this is my first eSATA.

This hard drive performs just as well as my existing 160GB hard drive on my computer. That's all I wanted. It's fast, and I don't even use the e-SATA capability! Definite necessity! Affordable!

I got this HD for $99 after $30 rebate. While transferring ~ 60GB data from my PC to this HD for backup purpose, I paid some attentions to the speed, heat and noise. Overall, it is a quiet HD, and not producing excessive heat. I did not do any precise measurement but the data transfer speed is about as good as other devices I have seen with USB 2.0 interface. It does not come with a SATA cable so I have not tried that connection. The HD works so far so good. Only time can tell for reliability. This package does not come with any software. But, one can easily find utilities from the internet for backup, etc. It would be great if some common software could be included.

Works perfectly with my Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300HD DVR. I've been only recording HD programs, sometimes two at a time, while watching one recorded HD program, and I get no lag or studdering and it has been running solid for over 2 months. I just bought another one to use as a backup drive for my computer, but turns out I'm going to use it as a media drive for my computer and wait till I can get another one of these 1TB Cavalry drives at 99$. How can you go wrong for 1GB per 10cents! Good job Cavalry! You are 2 for 2 in my book.

WD hard drive inside. 1TB for cheap. Seems to be fast. Stays cool even under constant heavy load. haven't tried the eSATA.
