this is my second ext hard drive,we use for our pictures,but remember copy them to a disk,you can go back and enjoy your pictures from the ext drive at any time....

I am extremely pleased with the performance of the Cavalry External Hard Drive. I had purchase prior to getting the Cavalry, other drives that were hard to understand or had poor performance. The Cavalry hard external drive is easy to install (no computer software needed) and understand. It comes ready to replace the FAT limited storage with NTFS. I had to reformat my computer (virus infested) and the Cavalary backed up ALL my data and I still have 486 GB left. It is great. I have recommended my supervisor to get one for his computer. Thanks and the service with buy.com is also great with fast delivery.

This Calvary external hard drive is easy to install, I have never had any problems with them at all. Can't beat the price and it is built like a tank. This is the 2nd Cavalry external hard drive that we have purchased. You can't go wrong with buying one (Trust me).

NOT MUCH TO SAY BUT, GREAT VALUE IN THE PRICE PER GIGABYTE AND PERFORMANCE. GOOD FOR FILE BACKUPS AND STORAGE. I JUST PLUGGED IT IN AND BANG, THERE IT IS IN MY COMPUTER.

I have not had this product long, but am happpy with it so far, it is realatively fast (USB), and good value for the storage. VERY easy to set up and use, truly plug-n-play. I have a Maxtor OneTouch and a WD ext HDs as well, and I have to say the Maxtor has been nothing but trouble, constantly showing errors (which are miraclously "fixed" by unplugging and rstarting the unit, very buggy software), so I am transferring everything to this unit. So far happy. Very quiet. We'll see how it is in the long run. I purchased the 500 GB, saw the Calvary 1 TB just a few days later - much better value on the $, kinda wished that I had bought it instead.

Thank you for doing the job correctly the first time! The external hard drive was received in a timely manor and in good working condition. It was easy to install on my computer. I wanted to use it to back up my other devices without using up all the space on my computer. It works great! This has been a great value for the money.

You can't beat the price of this item, but if you are not tech savvy, it may take time to learn how to use it. The directions in the box and the tech support are not very helpful. I messed around with it for hours, then finally I talked to my friend in the IT business and he walked me through it. Now that I know what to do, I'm thrilled with it.

I wanted a external hard drive for backups and my son, being a IT specialist suggested a Cavalry 500gb unit from Buy.com. I got it for a real nice price, hooked it up (which is quite easy) and completed the backups with no problem. It was delivered to me when I expected it and I am most happy with the whole experience. So far all is working quite well.

This Cavalry 500gb drive is smaller, quieter and runs cooler than the 250gb drive i replaced. I chose standard shipping on Sunday and I got it on Wednesday. No complaints so far.

Purchased this unit to back up my pc. You can use it as a stand alone hard drive or plug in as a back up as needed. It comes with "One Touch Backup" software. If you only want to back up one drive or folder, this works great. I have yet to figure out how to configure it to back up across three different drives at once. Basically, I have to do "3" touches to get my pc backed up. The software isn't the most sophisticated but it works. You can even use windows explorer to move and copy files as well. Overall, with the rebate or when on sale it seems like a good unit, but as another reader mentioned, after it's formatted the 500 gb is reduced to 460+. Enjoy.

This is very heavy and is powered by separately. It doesn't take power from the computer through the USB Port.

After I plugged the device for the first time,it started to work, but after few minutes its stoped working. And my dekstop and notebook none could recognise the drive, So I contact the cavalry. They told me to send it to them to repair, ON THE FIRST DAY , that was owful.But I send it to them, and they send it back after repair it. For now its working fine, its just get kinda hot.Otherwise, so far so good.But because of sending it to repare , i lost my chance of rebate,which is not fair.I bought it in the first place because of its rebate ..........:( and ITS NOT 500GB,its just 464BG, :(

This hard drive works as advertised .. write out of the box. Great price and it was delivered in 2 days for free. Its operation is really quiet. Only drawback is the slow USB speed. If you really back up often then you might want to get a eSATA drive.

Works with no problems. Fast (definitely High-speed USB), extremely quiet, relatively cool (at least compared to my other external HD), and at the sale price with free shipping, I couldn't pass it up...I should have bought two before the price went back up. I did not install the backup s/w.

It works fine but I am truly disappointed in the manual. It is hardly English. I have to read it over and over to understand some of the sentences. Yes, I would buy it again as it is not only good looking but does the back up quite easily.

Purchased this unit July 27, arrived, worked immediately with my Windows PC, though I have not installed the backup software. However, MIR411.com rebate is rejecting my $20 rebate claim. Their site will not let me register, it says my model and/or serial number does not match the promotion number, even though the registration page refreshes with the exact model I purchased when I enter the promo number.

This is my third hard drive that I have purchased and I am very please with it. My Fantom hard drive overheats and the fan went out of the Bytec. No problems with this one.

Price was right, but the included software is a mystery if you use a Mac. I installed it, but then couldn't find it on my machine. I used Mac's Backup program instead, and everything seems to work fine. Also, The warranty is VOIDED if you take advantage of the rebate. Shady. Even so, I got lots of storage for not a lot of money.

Not a single issue so far. Took it out of the box, didn't install any software and started moving files right away. Transfer has been about 1G per minute. Not lightning fast, but good enough for my needs. Overall very happy with the product.

Work perfectly out of box. Super quiet that you can't heard any noise from it. Slim but solid looking, it's lot smaller than the book type of storage drive. The blue cavalry flashes when copying. Pretty cool!!

The Drive is wonderful, no problem. I just wish it would have a standard plug for the power supply. If this power supply stop working, the drive is useless, because a year or two down the road the power supply may not be available. I use it to backup my Satellite PVR

I've been testing a few external backup units recently from various vendors and although the majority of them are pretty good, like this one, the only thing that I can see that this unit is lacking is better backup software. The included software will only back up files, but when those files are in use or locked (even if no applications are running), the software will not backup the files. Perhaps it would've been better if Cavalry had included image backup software, as well.

I love the external back-up. It is easy to use, fairly light weight and for someone who is not totally techy not real complicated. Got here fairly quickly also.

The Cavalry 500GB "One Touch Back-UP" work fine for me right out of the box. Windows XP recognized it, I renamed the partition and off it went. The "One Touch Back-UP" has a very simplistic interface and is very basic. No incremental or date-range backup is available. It is easier to drag and drop your folders over to the external drive as it is to "Copy" the files using the provided interface. No individual file backup/recovery available. But it does back up the specified folders. I would recommend this drive.

Product arrived in good order & time and seems to work well for my purposes which is to be my external system & data back up in case of a failure. Have only used it once to back up entire system; have not yet done a scheduled save of changed data to see how that works & have not yet looked into the supposed one button operation. User guide was difficult for me to follow & am still having a bit of difficulty with that. Whoever translated it into English was definitely not a person who's first language is English. Am trying hard not to buy anything from overseas, a difficult task in itself but made more difficult when the country of origin isn't mentioned up front.

Bought this external drive because it was 500GB for under $140. I've always used Seagates so I was taking a chance with a new brand (Cavalry). So far (3 weeks now) I've been pleasantly surprised. I pulled the drive out, connected it, and it was instantly recognized by my Vista computer. I use another external drive to backup all my data. I then copied all the data from the Seagate drive to this Cavalry drive. The data transfer was fairly quick and the Cavalry drive demonstrated low latency when copying/accessing the data. So far, I'm a very satisfied buyer.

I bought this as a simple way to have my important photos I've taken over the last 5 years in TWO locations in case something crashes. I was happy that I could plug in the drive without having to install the software (I use Windows XP 2000 Pro). I am only using this as stated above, so I have no experience with the "backup software" that comes with it (I'm just going to update any photos or important files every couple of months on my own). I keep it unplugged in between time and so far it has worked to my expectations. Transfer rate is kind of slow for videos and photos, but I don't need to access them except in emergency so that is just fine.

Manufacturer advertised a rebate of $17 but I received a check for only $12! Not worth complaining but I thought I mention this for all to see. Other than that, the product works well. However prices for external hard drives are very competitive with only $10 separating this product from its competition.

I bought this unit about a year ago. It worked very well for 10 months and one day turned dead without any warning. I lost some very important videos and pictures that i stored in it. I got replacement since it is within 1 year warranty period but lost more precious memories...whats the point when you cant rely your storage? I surfed internet and figured out the most possible reason for such failure is poor workmanship or low cost material. I never mishandled, so the only reason for failure could be the above.
