Cavalry 400GB USB 2.0 7200RPM External Hard Drive

I needed some storage space for my laptop. Mostly to store my music and pictures. This was the perfect solution to all of my problems. I highly recommend this product. Just plug it in and it is ready to go, no installation required!

This is my second unit from Cavalry. After 3 months of minimum usage, I sent the first unit back for warranty repair due to PC no longer detects the unit. A replacement unit came back with a SATA HD rather than an ATA HD that I got for the first unit. This may explain this unit runs much hotter than the first unit does. The housing became very hot to touch. In two occasions I experienced data loss due to HD overheat and shut down. I am now running the unit with an external fan blowing at it and it seems to help. It is a very bad design on Cavalry part that no internal cooling fans in the unit to keep the HD cool. I might have to send this one back too if I keep experiencing data loss due to overheat.

This HD ends up giving you 372 GB of Data. Just hooked it up to my PC and it just worked. I've only had it for a month so I can't really judge the reliability of it. I use it to store all of my music, and it works like a charm so far. One thing I wish I could do is shut the light off on the HD, but a little electrical tape fixes that.

very simple to use - all set up ready to go in mts. Works for both PC and Apple products at the sametime. Very Fastttttt data trafer rate. Recommend this product for its price, quality and reliability

At the present it is working fine, for the first 2 backups. Hope nothing happens to it, for Cavalry seems to be out of business. The web site is out dated. Could not register the hard drive for their site is FOR SALE. The First one you sent to me did not work. Could not get hold of the company so you agreed to send me another. Where would I go for the warranty??? If something goes wrong???

Its been about 2 weeks now since I purchased this product. I found it a breeze to connect. Was quite pleased the size of the drive and what the price was - and excited to more than triple my existing hard drive space. It runs quietly and seamlessly. Thus far I am happy with it - a good buy!

My family has several computers with Windows XP and one new Mac. We are able to easily swap it between computers. It has worked very well. It is relatively quiet. It worked well right out of the box.

The HDD is fantastic, and works right out of the box. Pros: Small and portable. Very silent. Does not get hot at all. Shipment from Buy.com was very prompt. Cons: None for the product. As for the delivery process, the shipment status was not real-time. I received the product, and the status was still "sent to warehouse".

This hard-drive functions with no noticeable flaws. It is detected by Windows XP very well. Transfer speeds are also very good, as it took about 1 minute to transfer a 500 MB file. My only complaint is that it doesnt work with Win98. The hard-drive drivers go only as far back as Win98SE. I completely forgot about that, and slowed my transfer of files from an old desktop to the hard-drive. Otherwise, its very good for its price, although be careful of the amount of heat it generates. As a personal practice, I only keep it on when I need to transfer files.

Extremely pleased with drive performance. I installed this drive on a LinkSys Network Storage Link on my home network. Installation was NON existant - it was there as soon as I plugged it in and powered it up. GREAT.

The first unit I received was DOA, and had to be returned. The second unit has been running flawlessly since I received it. Performance as measured with DiskSpeed32 is a constant 25.5 MB/s across ALL sectors, not the "Up to 46MBps Sustained" claimed rate. This was limited by the USB 2.0 interface, not the drive. The aluminum case does a good job of dissipating the heat without a fan. The case temperature is just 95 degrees F, even with the drive pumping data at full rate for hours. An excellent value for the money! Great for video editing or backup use!

Not much to do with this when you get it... connect it to a USB 2.0 port with the included cable, and you're set to go if you are compatible with an NTFS file system - that's the way the drive is formatted when it arrives. I can only hope that the longevity is better than other externals I have had in the past...

I bought two of these drives to support a short film project. One was the primary drive, the other the backup drive. Turns out the drives are PC-formatted and the film editor does editing on a Mac -- so we just reformatted the drives and they work fine with the Mac. Could not find a better value anywhere.

Pros: Design, ease of use, not too much sound, pre formated, works good with vista, economical provided I get my mailin rebate back, Cons: Too much heating, auto off not enabled, takes time to detect, if you play any large media file it takes around 4-5 secs to buffer and play. Overall 4 of 5

Great cost per gigabyte. Not the speediest disk, but it gets the job done. Mainly being used for backups. Runs fairly quiet. No problems at all.

I've only had it a few weeks but I am very pleased so far. Setup was easy since it was pre-formatted for NTFS. It runs cool and quiet. Not sure how they do it since there doesn't seem to be a fan in it.

The Cavalry 400 Gig USB External HD which I purchased from you last month is one of the best deals I found through Buy.com, yet. It was so-o-o easy to set up, and ready to use, right out of the box! It runs quickly, quietly and is not hot. I recommend it to anyone who needs more disk space, or back up space.

This is my first time purchase from Cavalry but the external hard drive runs smoothly, set up was a snap, and there is no noticeable problem with any aspect of operation. Virtually noiseless and runs very cool. Great value overall especially if this continues through lifetime of operation.

Smoothly's review is incorrect...there is NO internal fan. this thing is so hot i had to turn it off and let it sit for a few minutes before i could handle it. i am going to move it from the floor up to a table to see if it will run cooler. if it continues to run this hot, i am going to send it back. the lifespan of this drive will most likely be short.

Internal fan keeps drive cool and case is sturdy. Fast file backups. Preformatted and it's been working smoothly. Nice hard drive.
