5 of 5 Very Nice Drive and ESATA works Tuesday, April 21, 2009 Jamus from Skokie, IL
Nice overall Drive and ESATA works with this drive unlike the Fantom 1Tb drive that I also purchased from Buy.com. It also included the ESTA cable and bridge so you do not have to puchase one if your MOBO does not have a ESATA connector. All you need to do is make sure that you have a internal SATA connector so that you can connect the brige for the ESATA interface. Connected to a Vista Ultimate 64-bit PC and started right up.
Also, unlike the Fantom 1tb drive, this drive comes pre-formatted with NTFS file system instead of FAT32.

5 of 5 Very Useful Device Saturday, April 18, 2009 zoid from Trappa, Flatworld
First: How much longer will people continue to complain that their 20MB (1995), 20GB (2001), and 1TB (2009) format smaller than 20MB/20GB/1TB, before they begin *hearing* the answer? Since the dawn of the HDD, manufacturers have equated 1MB = 1,000,000 Bytes, when in fact 1MB = 1,024,000 Bytes. Do the math. (NB: RAM manufacturers use the correct definition of 1MB.)
Additionally, your operating system effects your final formatted disk size. Generally speaking, the higher the 'bit-version' (i.e., 32-bit vs. 16-bit or 64-bit), the smaller the minimum file size, the less 'slack' on the disk, and the higher the available capacity; the same is true of formatting the disk with smaller than the default file allocation size (less wasted space on small files, more blocks available for writing). I remember upgrading Windows 3.1 to Windows For Workgroups 3.16 strictly because it was 16-bit and magically 'grew' my HDD by 15%...
...Second: The Cavalry Drive comes with an eSATA PCI card, otherwise I'd have never bought it for strictly USB 2.0 throughput speeds. With eSATA, it's like having the best of both worlds: An external drive that runs at internal speeds, yet still remains instantly detachable, and highly portable for use with other systems.
Absolutely brilliant! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Another Winner! Thursday, April 16, 2009 Roland from Globe Arizona
This is the second hard drive I have purchased from you, the first being a 500 GB and I was going to get the exact same drive again when I saw the AWESOME price on this 1 TB hard drive. I also hava a spare eSATA jack on the motherboard and since this offered the cable AND bridge (extension) I thought why not!? Am I ever glad I did. The speed is unbelievable and even though the USB on my 500 GB drive is fast, this one beats it in every way! All I can say is again, THANK YOU Buy.com and Cavalry for offering such a wonderful product and at such great prices also. I have told all my friends and family about your site and I will continue to praise your services! Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Good Buy! Wednesday, April 15, 2009 A Customer from Sacramento
Great product. Just plug it in and ready to use. I'm digging the fast transfer speed. The blue light isn't too bad at least not for me. The stand stays on pretty firm and doesn't fall off that easily which is cool. Buy.com once again was great on shipping...fast! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great buy - great product for DVR expansion Thursday, April 09, 2009 Smilin Sam from Charlotte, NC
I bought this drive as a DVR expander for SA-8300HD (Time Warner). It took all of 3 min to set up the expander. I powered-off the DVR. Plugged the eSATA cable into DVR and Cavalry. Powered-up the hard drive; waited about a minute and powered-up the DVR. Received a screen message to format the HD which took about 30sec. I turned DVR off and on again and checked the storage space. It went from 48% to 2% used -- Perfect! Highly recommend Buy.com and this drive -- as usual. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Outstanding Hard drive Wednesday, March 25, 2009 Stephen from Westminster, SC

4 of 5 Cavalry External 1tb Hard Drive Thursday, March 19, 2009 ken from Colorado Springs
I haven't had the drive long, but it has worked as the internet said it would as an external hard drive for Direct TVs HD DVR replacement. I have doubled the size of the DVRs drive. This particular drive came with the ESATA cable that directly interfaces to the DTV HD DVR. The only issue is I had to power the DVR unit down inorder for it to replace its internal drive with the Cavalry drive. It is quiet, and once it has been properly configured, works seamlessly with the DVR.
The drive was more expensive that other 1TB drives but for this application and getting the bundled cable, it was worth the money. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great external hard drive Tuesday, March 17, 2009 A Customer from San Diego, CA
Purchased this to use with my HP server - works great. Sets up in seconds due to NTSF formatting, no problems at all.
Purchased a second identical drive a couple of weeks later to use for off site storage. Both working better than expected. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Awesome External HD!! Monday, March 16, 2009 A Customer from Visalia, CA
This is my 4th USB HD from Cavalry. The product is very reliable and is a great value for the money you pay. The fact it works also with eSata II is a big plus, and coming with cables and eSata is remarkable bonus for the price.
This Cavalry 1Tera HD is even better than my first 500GB, not only for the extra capacity, but because it does not need the fan and works very quietly without overheating.
One point a saw at some reviews are complains about the technical support flaws. Cannot say anything about that, since none of them needed any as far (what is great). Hope not be disappointed some day in the future. Company website is improving.
Couple of (really) small picky remarks to improve.
1) AC/DC Power cord is too short, what sometimes is really annoying
2) Yes, the LED can double an airport bean as someone write before. If you have plans to keep it on during the night at your bedroom, be prepared to put something to cover it if you want to sleep. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 I'm satified with this product Thursday, March 12, 2009 Edwin from Houston, TX
took it out the box plug it to my computer with esata that comes with it and started tranfering files and no kidding I transfer 3 movies of 4 gigs each and it took me 12 minutes as with the usb it would taken me at least 30 minutes so I'm very please I just hope quality is good and it does not fell after backing up all my files. and also is very quiet not like ones I'm replacing and the space is 931 GB but you will never get 100% space of any hard drive but that is plenty for me. 5 of 5 A Great Drive @ a Great Price Thursday, March 05, 2009 A Customer from Vienna, VA
Sets up in minutes. Just connect the cables and turn it on. Fast. Always available. Runs very quiet. High quality Western Digital hard drive at a cost lower than Western Digital. I've added a 2nd one and bought another for my wife. The only thing it's lacking is a Firewire 800 interface that would mave it more useful for MacBook and iMac users. Was this review helpful?

Pros: It's working well on my WinXP (SP3) box. I had to reboot several times due to drivers for the drive being installed, but after the third reboot the drive was finally recognized by the OS. I'm connected via the eSATA port on my motherboard (Gigabyte MA78GM-S2H)
Cons: Sometimes after a reboot, the drive isn't recognized thus causing me to reboot again. Eventually the drive gets noticed and all seems normal. I've also noticed random write protect errors. Also the total size of the drive is actually 931GB. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Expand your DVR Saturday, February 28, 2009 A Customer from Santa Barbara, CA
I heard about this Cavalry drive from a friend who bought it to upgrade his Cox Cable DVR box. Since then, I bought another one for my Dad, who is also always running out of DVR space due to HD recording. This drive comes with both USB and SATA cables, and using the SATA cable, the DVR detects the drive when booting and asks to format. Then, cycle the DVR power again, and voila, your 60% full DVR is now 7%, waiting for you to record as many Lakers games and HBO HD movies as you don't have time to watch. The drive light is too bright, but I just turn the thing sideways in the back of the AV cabinet and it provides a nice blue/red glow. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Good product at good price! Recommended! Friday, February 27, 2009 Hiệu from Hanoi, Vietnam

Only the light in the front is too light if you use this HDD for your HD Media player in a dim-light room. But you can hide it with a piece of paper! Was this review helpful?

Easy to use both my computers recognized the drive instantly and has yet to fail me, simple Plug & Play. I run this ext HD 24/7 and have yet to have one problem in over 5 months .. I recommend this unit. Great Price & Great Buy.. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 WORKS GREAT ON DIRECTV HR-20 Friday, February 20, 2009 KEN from CORVALLIS, OR
FORGET ABOUT BUYING A LAME WESTERN DIGITAL FOR YOUR DIRECTV DVR - THEY DON'T WORK AND THEY COST TOO MUCH. THIS ONE WORKS BEAUTIFULLY RIGHT FROM THE BOX, PLUS IT COMES WITH THE ESATA CABLE YOU NEED TO HOOK IT UP TO THE DVR. JUST UNPLUG YOUR DVR, HOOK UP THE CAVALRY, TURN IT ON, WAIT FOR ONE MINUTE, AND THEN TURN ON YOUR DVR. VOILA! CAN'T BEAT THIS DEAL OR THIS HDD. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 What a GREAT drive!!! Sunday, February 01, 2009 Timothy from Alexandria, MN
I bought this drive and was surprised on how easy it was to use. Everything plugged in great with the sata kit that was included. I really love it! I liked it so much that I went back to Buy.com to order 2 more but the special deal price was over and it broke my heart. So I started looking around the net for more of these Cavalry drives with the sata kit and couldn't find any for the same or even close deal Buy.com had them. So I continued keeping alert and ended up buying the 2 TB Cavalry drive with sata kit. I strongly recommend the Cavalry brand. They are great. The 2 TB drive was more complicated than the single but they are both GREAT drives for the buck! I now have 3 TB of memory for my movies!!! Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Does what you would expect from it Monday, January 26, 2009 mfr30540 from Gainesville, GA
Works great on both XP and Vista platforms.
Speed is adequate.
Build quality is above average for this price point.
My only comment is the base is not fixed to the product which can result in accidental dropping if you pick it up by the base.
Power adapter is all one piece which is a plus.
Price is in line with other products of this type. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 great Saturday, January 24, 2009 A Customer from palm coast
Have used this drive on 2 desktops and 3 laptops so far, works great on all. The usb performance is fine for copying files, for disaster recovery a usb connection is slow. No fault of the drive, just what you would expect from a usb connection.
Used the card connection on one pc and the performance was significantly improved over the usb connection.
Ordered an esata card for my other desktop. I am tempted to purchase the pcmcia esata card for the laptops.
It is a western digital drive. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Help with order Saturday, January 24, 2009 John from Grove City, PA
There was a problem with the delivery company and Buy.com immediately sent out a duplicate order. I subsequently ended up with two items. I was concerned with email being the only way to contact Buy.com but when I contacted them about the duplicate shipment they immediately sent me a postage paid mailing label to return the item.
I usually like to be able to call customer service but they handle email with haste.
I would agree with the customer from Houston - The bright blue lite is a bit much.
I did have to reformat the HD as my DVR did not recognize it at first. This was really not a big problem. My problem is with my DVR it will only let me use 2/3 of the HD. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 So far so good Tuesday, January 20, 2009 A Customer from Huntingdon Valley, PA
I have a windows Vista Media PC and wanted more space for the TV that I record. I set Media Center to record directly to the new drive and it's worked flawlessly for a couple of weeks now AND I'm only using the "slow" USB connection. Was this review helpful?

Couldn't ask for a better price on the product. Great brand name and seems to work fine. Right out of the box use was a great perk also. Using for mass storage and at the price you really can't pass it up. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Cavalry 1TB VALUE$$ Sunday, January 18, 2009 Brian from Cypress, Texas
Simple plug-n-play. Pre-formated NTFS. Great for storing all those DVD's you have and keeps the kiddies from scratching them. Using with my HTPC, No changing disc's!! Use My Movies 2 add-in for the HTPC and it becomes point and click to watch your collection. Highly recommend. eSATA 3.0 speeds too and a USB if you want to move it around or do not have any SATA ports on your Motherboard. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 my first SATA external drive Sunday, January 18, 2009 Gil from Wimberley, Texas
Good drive and good price. Didn't have to deal with waiting for a rebate (still waiting over a year for my the $30 rebate on my Fantome Titanium drive, have decided not to buy another Fantome drive until my past rebate arrives).
Used this drive first tthen installed the SATA external outlet so that I could get the faster speed that offers. (Most internal drives are now sata) Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great Drive! Sunday, January 18, 2009 Tony Baez-Heredia from Reading, PA
Some back story:
Bought this external drive for the price. Was not a fan of how it looked and wasn't too sure of the Cavalry build quality (never owned the brand before). The pictures don't do it any justice. The Cavalry is just 2 inched longer than a bare 3.5 inch HDD!
I'm using the drive on my Gateway P7811FX gaming laptop with the included eSATA cables. The performance is phenomenal...I can transfer an 8GB high def movie from internal drive to the Cavalry in about 1.5 minutes. This same task used to take me about 8 minutes with a USB drive.
USB is on par for what the standard allows. I can transfer a full DVD ISO 4.3GB in about a minute.
I'm trying to come up with a con and can't think of anything. This product has exceeded all my expectations and I can recommended wholeheartedly with no hesitations. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Directv HD DVR Saturday, January 17, 2009 A Customer from St. Louis, MO
Bought this to expand the recording capabilities of my DVR and it works. Plugged it into the DVR rebooted the DVR and everything has been working just fine. Had to setup all my recordings again but that was no big deal. With everything going HD it is the easiest solution to the limits on the DVR. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Only Get 1.5GBS(not 3/0GBS) Thursday, January 15, 2009 Eric from Winnetka Illinois
i bought this as a backup intending to use the esata bracket to get 3.0 gbs transfer rate. came on time. everything was in the package except the resource cd. had no problem installing esata bracket and hooking it up. had to go into the bios to enable/turn on the sata connection so the OS would recognize the drive even though the computer manual said the default was the connection was enabled. everything works fine except the transfer rate is only 1.5gbs according to bios which leads me to believe that this is sata 1 technology (as noted by another reviewer), not sata 2 as advertised. but not a big enough of a problem to justify returning it since only paid $109 and since it's still a lot faster than the usb 2.0 transfer speed (at least based on advertised rate of 60 mps). 5 of 5 a bargain for my purposes Thursday, December 18, 2008 Lucy421 from Boise, Idaho
This is the second one I've ordered. The first was as a location for my Windows Media Player Library, in which I've copied over 1000 CDs in wav lossless. The second is for backup. Using the USB connection, they both suit my purposes perfectly, and at a bargain price. My PC is connected to my audio system via digital cable, and this is how I access all my music. 5 of 5 Lots of room for video captures to put together ho Monday, November 17, 2008 a Grandmother from Greenville, Mississippi
I bought this drive to do a lot of video editing. The eSATA bracket that comes with the Cavalry drive is what makes the drive a true SATA drive with SATA speed (I think USB is slower.) This bracket provides the port to connect the Cavalry drive with the supplied eSATA cable. The bracket also has an attached cable with a universal SATA plug to plug into an open SATA connector on my computer's motherboard. I've only seen inside a computer once before, but using my owner's manual, I was able to locate the open SATA port. It was simple to plug in the bracket's plug and easy to pop out the dummy bracket at the back of my computer and replace it with the Cavalry bracket. Then I plugged the eSATA cable to the drive and to the bracket port and connected the drive's power adapter, turned on my computer, and turned on the Cavalry drive. It was immediately recognized. I copied all my pictures and video captures to it. I've used it for two weeks doing a lot of video editing with no problem. Another external USB drive I have is annoying and distracting every time the fan came on. This Cavalry drive is very quiet and has no fan--I love it! It came with everything listed in description and delivery was fast for free shipping. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Just what I needed. Saturday, November 15, 2008 netwizzard from Fort Collins, CO

5 of 5 Great price, fast data transfer Saturday, November 15, 2008 Dave B. from Pittsburgh, Steelers, PA
The unit is very quiet, very fast data transfer. It's preformatted and easy to use. I've cleared out most of my system hard drive to this drive. The blue led is bright so I put tape over it to block the light. Unit is solid, well built. Great deal, tons of storage. It was all plug and play, so you shouldn't need any additional software. 5 of 5 I'm Now a Cavalry Fan Saturday, June 21, 2008 A Customer from Fort Mill, SC
This is a great and easy drive. The enclosure is pretty slim and quiet. It comes with the external SATA bridge so if you have a SATA connection on the inside of your computer, you will be able to hook this drive up to it externally. Comes pre-formatted with NTFS which saves Windows users a couple hours. I've been using it for 3 weeks now and it does what its meant for well. I'll lean towards cavalry products from now on because of the quality of this. Was this review helpful?
