I received my 3rd replacement and it has the same intermittent power connector. Clearly quaility control has taken the day off. I can not recommend this or any other product from this vendor. One product being consistently bad is a poor reflection on all of their products.
Now I'm struggling with Buy.Com to return for a refund. Was this review helpful?
1 of 5 So Far, So Bad...... Thursday, December 27, 2007 A Customer from Huntington Beach, CA
I ordered this over a month ago. While it worked fine when connected to a desktop PC, which gets powered from the USB port, it would not work from my laptop. You need to power it externally. Turns out the power port connector on the enclosure was intermittent and the drive would shut off if I moved it the wrong way. I returned the first one for an exchange and the second one had the same problem. I have returned that as well and now still wait for my third one to arrive. If this doesn't work (3rd strike), I'll return for a refund which I'm sure will be difficult from Buy.Com. I'll post another review once I receive the replacement. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Would Not Work with supplied USB Cable! Saturday, December 15, 2007 A Customer from New York
Windows did not recognize the drive when I used the the USB cable that came with the package. Worked fine when I used my own cable and did not require any auxilliary power! Was this review helpful?

I have many external hard drives and this one performs poorly. It says that you don't need the AC adaptor, but if you connect the USB w/o that Windows says "Device not recognized". I then connected the power pin, but it does not stick in properly, so I have to place it in a particular way. Last problem: even after all this, after writing some data, Window threw a "Delayed write failed" error and I could not see the data I had written. Was this review helpful?
1 of 5 Don't buy this Monday, December 03, 2007 Trust me from Glen Allen, VA
I bought this HD (I have bought from buy.com Western Digital Hard drives and they worked great) and have been having many problems. For one, it needs a power supply (the western digital portable ones do not). Two, the power pin does not hold and I have to position it, else I lose power. Windows has given me many "Delayed write failed" on this drive, while my western digital ones still work fine. Was this review helpful?
3 of 5 Cavalry CAXR25160 160GB Portable Hardrive Friday, November 30, 2007 Troy Barrett from Beaufort, SC
It's good value for the storage you get. However it comes with only application instructions that comes with the drive on the cd. Hookup instructions are not included. Had to call tech support to find out you had to use plug-in adapter for electricity as well as BOTH usb hookups.
Most external hardrives use only one usb port. This one has a usb cord with another usb attachment branching out from the end of the first one and it was unclear whether to just use one and which one or to use both.
The fact it takes up two usb ports is a big drawback especially if you have anything else attached to your computer plus it needs an electrical outlet availabe as well. I could accept one usb being used and plugging it in to an outlet but two usbs and an outlet on top of that seems too excessive. Was this review helpful?

4 of 5 No AC Adapter Required? Friday, November 30, 2007 A Customer from San Diego, Ca.
To be fair, the drive seems to work fine, everything needed DID come with the drive, including the AC Adapter that IS needed with every system I have.
When I plugged it in, even using both USB plugs (which on my other pocket drives powers them just fine) this drive got a flashing LED and did not get picked up by my systems. This included my Fujitsu Lifebook and 3 different Tower Computers.
The Laptop had no problem powering up my 80GB pocket drive, but this one did not stop flashing and show up until I plugged in the external AC Adapter.
Other than this one issue, the drive seems to work fine, no problems writing to it or reading from it. It is only an issue to mention since the page for the drive states in Red "No AC Adapter Required", maybe that only applies if using it in eSata mode? I know some laptops, even using 2 ports to provide power, just don't provide the proper power levels for some devices, but the desktops should not have that problem. A small problem in most cases. If I need a big drive for uses with the laptop without AC, I guess I will have to use the 80GB drives. Was this review helpful?
