 Editor's Note
This early, low-budget dramatization of the legend of Pocahontas sees Captain John Smith (Anthony Dexter) appearing before the court of King James II to tell his story. He recounts his efforts to create harmony between the British settlers and the Indians in the New World. On the brink of being put to death by the Indian chief, the Captain is saved by the beautiful Indian princess, Pocahontas (Jody Lawrance). Smitten with the newcomer, she steps up to defend him, and offers to marry him instead. These plans are impeded by Pocahontas's former lover, Opechanco (Stuart Randall), who decides to break the settlers' truce with the Indians and kills the Princess's brother in the process. Ultimately, Smith and Opechanco engage in a battle that will determine both Pocahontas's fate, and the fate of the settlers' relations with the natives of the New World.
