Canon PowerShot SD700 IS Camera Review
DigitalCameraInfo.com
Published on: 12/12/2006 10:00 AM
The Canon PowerShot SD700 IS is the first of the Digital Elph line to include optical image stabilization, a feature that includes an element in the lens that moves to correct for shaky hands. The SD700 is an attractive digital camera that shoots 6-megapixel images with an easy to use interface. The Canon SD700 originally retailed for $499, but can be found for under $300 now. ...read the full review

5 of 5 My fourth Canon Powershot Friday, July 06, 2007
They call me Jones from United States

This is another great product from Canon. If you're like me and like a compact camera that'll fit in your front pocket, you'll really like this camera. The pictures come out beautiful. The video is 30 fps, so it looks great! I really like the "rapid shot" feature too. You'll want to get a 2gb SD card for this, as anything under 512mb will fill up quick. Its a huge jump in features compared to my older model Canon Powershots. I love the fast startup & shutdown too. I'd recommend it. If you want to get sample photos and stuff, I always look at steves-digicams.com.

5 of 5 A great camera Sunday, May 13, 2007
A Customer from Birmingham, AL
This is a great camera for a point-and-click style user. It turns on quickly, takes excellent quality pictures, fits easily into a shirt pocket, and has a nice array of special features. I have even dropped it once on concrete and it wasn't damaged. I found the switches easy to use and not cumbersome. The wheel has changed position a time or two in my pocket. I would certainly recommend this camera.

5 of 5 Very Cool! Thursday, March 22, 2007
A. Giammarino from South Plainfield, NJ
First of all kudos to Buy.com - Even with free shipping, I received my camera order the next afternoon. The camera is excellent. We're only going on our third week of use, and the camera is a favorite in our home. We have a few other digital cameras, and really think the size / performance ratio of this camera is best. The smaller size is perfect for stashing in my wife's small pocketbook or pants pocket. Image quality is great, extra functionality like color swap makes for much interest and cool pictures. At first I thought the 2.5 inch display would be small for this price tier, but it's actually big for this camera form factor. No complaints. The camera feels solid and the metal skin lends itself for the camera to be more rugged than others. You'll pay a little more for this 6MP camera, but the design, image quality and functionality offered is better than others. Oh yeah, don't forget about the image stabilization - Very cool!

4 of 5 IS is great Wednesday, January 24, 2007
Mike from Fairfax, VA
I took the 700IS skiing in -16F temps and it performed beautifully. I was able to take rock still shots that were very sharp even while moving on skis and movies at full zoom that don't make viewers sick to their stomachs. I've only had the camera for a few weeks, but I'm impressed with the power management. The flash control could be a better, some images are washed out and some a bit dark. An aux flash would be a good investment if you are going to take pictures in dark spaces. White balance is very easy to set and the "scene mode" makes selection of WB very easy.

5 of 5 An excellent camera Tuesday, January 16, 2007
Philippe from Dryden, NY
I made a big investment for this camera. I chose this one because of the internal stabilization, and it seems to be working perfectly. I am finding this camera easy of use; coming from a lower-end model, this Canon really showed me that digital pictures could look good without too much effort. The many functions of the camera are rather intuitive, and a good look at the books provided will help you sort through them. Uploading your pictures onto your computer is a breeze, really; once you have installed the software, everything is done automatically; the software itself is easy of use. I would recommend investing into a 2gb card, as you will be severaly limited with the 16mg card. I cannot recommend this camera enough.

5 of 5 Fantastic back-up and even primary camera. Wednesday, December 06, 2006
A Customer from Princeton, NJ
I originally purchased this camera as a handy backup for my "more serious" digital camera - in case of failure at a critical time. It's image stabilization and picture quality are superb, as are battery life, optical AND TFT viewfinders. I now take it everywhere and often use it as a primary camera. I would recommend it as a solid 5 in both categories.

5 of 5 Excellent camera to take on vacation Tuesday, November 21, 2006
A Customer from Dallas, TX
This is my third Canon digital camera and I like it the best. The size has been reduced to the point that there is no excuse for leaving your camera at home. The image stabilization is great and really helps with zoom pictures. I rarely use the optical viewfinder because the digital image is bright enough to see under almost any conditions. The only criticism that I have is that the controls are a bit small - but maybe that's the price for having such a compact camera. I have taken hundreds of pictures with this camera and it rarely disappoints me.

5 of 5 Canon does it again Thursday, October 19, 2006
A Customer from Ridgefield, Connecticut
The Canon PowerShot SD700 IS is a great little camera for average photography needs. Small enough to fit in your pocket with a bright display that really facilitates seeing the image you want to photograph. This version is far superior in picture making than an earlier version of the PowerShot series I used. Most notable is the image stabilization feature that has been added. It really helps me particularly when using the zoom feature. I would recommend this camera but because digital cameras are a moving target, there is probably a new version which will be even better than the one I have at the same or less cost.

5 of 5 Great Product! Wednesday, October 11, 2006
Ashley from Houston, TX
I love this camera, it's easy to use and takes BEAUTIFUL photos. I'm an amateur at working the camera, but after playing with the color filters and different settings, I've been able to easily figure out how to get the pictures I want. Best camera purchase ever.

5 of 5 Top Performer Friday, September 29, 2006
A Customer from Harrisburg, PA
If you are looking for a small camera that takes full size camera pictures, this is it! The size is perfect to throw in your pocket just in case you want to snap some pix. The picture quality is awesome and, with the image stabilization, all the shots are soooo sharp. The only downside is one that you'd expect of a small camera, the flash has a limited distance (about 10 feet) where it really lights up the scene. Beyond that, unless you are in a brightly lit area, the pictures will get grainy. In daylight, I don't think you can get better pictures from any other camera. I have a Digital EOS Rebel for my serious picture taking and this camera rivals it for picture quality.

5 of 5 Great camera Tuesday, September 26, 2006
A Customer from Atlanta, GA
This is my 5th Canon Digital IXUS (or Canon Powershot in the US) and I always liked thenk except the last one SD400, where I had huge issues with the quality of the pics. Even when shot in direct sun, the pics looked unsharp, which was the major reason for me to buy the SD700. And what can I say: The best camera ever. Great pics, big screen, perfect.

5 of 5 Great Features at a Super Price Tuesday, September 26, 2006
Andy from Atlanta, GA
After doing considerable research all over the web I decided to purchase the Canon SD700 IS through buy.com. It's everything and then some that I had read, and after two consecutive cross country vacations I am thrilled. I captured some incredible images and the ease of use is unrivaled. My only complaint is taking images in low lighting situations, which can be trickier than I expected. Though after a few shots I can typically figure out which mode the camera needs to be in to capture the best quality image.

5 of 5 Great Product Friday, September 22, 2006
Alex from Brooklyn, NY
The Canon PowerShot SD700 IS is Canon's first Digital ELPH equipped with image stabilization, which helps reduce camera shake and blurred images. Its ultracompact dimensions allows you to comfortably carry it in your pocket. Image quality is very good to excellent. Very easy to use. I would recommend this product to everyone who is looking for compact high quality digital camera.
