Canon Powershot A720 IS - Digital Camera Review
DigitalCameraReview.com
Published on: 10/15/2007 2:30 PM
The Canon Powershot A720 IS came onto the scene late this summer to replace its popular predecessor, the A710 IS. This time around, the A720 IS still sports a 6x optical zoom, an increase in resolution (8 megapixels), similar 2.5 inch LCD, and new imaging processor, the DIGIC III. Also like its predecessor, the A720 IS is powered by 2 AA batteries - the signature of the Canon Powershot A line....read the full review

5 of 5 Great Camera! Saturday, August 02, 2008
SewandXit from Acton, ME

This is a great camera! I love it. I purchased the camera back in March, and I've been experimenting with it since then. When I purchased it, I also purchased the "EDGE 4GB ProShot SDHC Card Class 6" for a little over $30. It was well worth it. The card that comes with the camera (like most new cameras) has very little memory. This upgrade is important. Batteries do tend to run out quickly because of the digital screen. You can extend the life of your batteries by changing the time you want the screen to stay on in between pictures. I have rechargable batteries, which works well for me. The zoom feature works wonderfully, and pictures come out great. I am very impressed with the high quality of the pictures after zooming in closely. I zoomed in pretty tight to a Scarlet Tanager in a tree that was about 50 or more feet away. I didn't expect it to be perfect. It came out a little gainy, but I was impressed it came out as well as it did. It may have really been blurry becuase I shook a bit too much. I was trying to get a good picture, but the darn bird wouldn't sit still. I tend to use my zoom for things that are larger and far away or fairly close to me. Like all cameras, it can take some getting use to. One must learn to move around the programs and screens. Once this is mastered, this camera will impress you. The manual is easy to read. I read through it briefly when I first got my camera. As I found things that I needed more info on, it was easy to pinpoint those sections to acquire strategies to increase my knowledge and better my performance. I experimented with the video once, but this isn't what I bought the camera for. It seemed to work well, but it uses much battery power. Perhaps I will use it again in the future--for fun--but it's not an important feature to me. You won't be disappointed if you buy this camera. It's perfect for someone who enjoys photography and quailty pictures. You will be very pleased. I am! In fact, I plan on purchasing this camera for my parents for Christmas. It's a great camera!

5 of 5 Just got it Wednesday, July 09, 2008
Denny Christman from Henderson, NV
Was a little disappointed after installing the 16mb disc into the camera only to find that you can shoot only about five pictures with it. You'd think they would at least give you a 128mb disc for starters. So far the camera seems to be working very well and is easy to use. Haven't really tested it out totally as of yet. Installed a 4GB disc from Sam's Club for like $27 and seems to be working fine.

5 of 5 Great Little Camera Thursday, July 03, 2008
A Customer from Dallas, TX
Bought this camera for my wife in March. It takes excellent outdoor pictures. Wife shoots mainly with "Auto" mode. The video clips are very good. It is truly amazing camera. The battery life (two AAs) is not too bad also(average 150 pictures). I have played with the creative zones few times. It is a very capable camera. Our first digital PS camera was Canon A70 (5 year ago), then S2 IS and A720 IS. They are all excellent cameras. The A70 still works like new even after taking over 10,000 pictures.

5 of 5 Very good camera Saturday, March 29, 2008
A Customer from Dallas, Texas
Received the order within three days. Buy.com always does good job on shipment. The camera takes outstanding outdoor pictures. The indoor ones are about average (which is not surprised for under $200 cameras).

4 of 5 Great Camera, Needs bigger Memory Card Monday, February 11, 2008
A Customer from Harlingen, TX
No knock at all on the camera for pictures. They need to give you a larger SD card though. You will need to buy one if you want to take any decent number of pictures.

4 of 5 Canont Powershot A720 IS Wednesday, January 02, 2008
A Customer from Towanda, PA
Have used the camera for a few weeks now and I have enjoyed it quite a bit. I am just a novice but have been able to take quite nice pictures for my eye. I have pictures of snow, pets, Christmas and New Year's, inside and outside. It is all automatic but if I want to experiment with different controls I am not afraid to.

5 of 5 Great value and pictures Wednesday, December 26, 2007
Nick from Cranston, RI
This camera is a lot like a fuji 10 MP camera that I bought for my wife a year ago. this one features a 6X OPTICAL zoom (disable the digital zoom). Easy to access the menus, flash built in no need to push a button to raise it. No case is included... the video keeps recording forever with a 2 MB card that I purchased separately. The video records at 640 x 480, the mic seemed a bit weak as the volume recorded lower than I expected, perhaps my finger was covering it? Plenty of scene modes with aperture and shutter speed priority features. The video allowed to me to zoom while shooting which I was surprised at. It may have been the digital zoom before I disabled it. Very good pictures once you prefocus (as all point and shoots require). At just under $200, it is hard to go wrong for a Canon 8 MP camera.

5 of 5 Best of the Bunch Sunday, December 09, 2007
A Customer from Lynchburg, Virginia
This camera does it all. It is everything the Consumer Reports rated it to be, including a Best Buy. The price was more than fair, and the company who sold it to me sent it in 2 days. Very thrilled.

5 of 5 Great deal for the price Wednesday, November 28, 2007
A Customer from Greenville, SC
I researched for months all the different brands and models in my price range, the A720IS came up highest over and over. And I was not disappointed. The camera has more features than I know know how to use, but am learning. The only down sides I can see is the flimsy side cover for the mini USB port and the manual. If you want to learn how features work, plan on doing alot of playing on your own.

5 of 5 Great camera. Wednesday, November 28, 2007
fjforster from Grosse Pointe, Mich
I've taken over 400 photo's and find them to be uniformly sharp and crisp. The 6x optical zoom works smoothly and well with optical stabilization. I took two ambient-light videos which turned out surprisingly well. Being an old film camera guy, I use the viewfinder a lot, which most small digital cameras have eliminated. The lag time is much improved over my prior Olympus camera. Overall, a great value.
