The surprising PowerShot A610 offers many features you'd expect to find only on higher end models. For example, there's a 5.0MP CCD that lets you print large, richly detailed prints. Just as importantly, this camera is equipped with a complete range of advanced functions that make shooting relaxed and simple - whether you're a novice or a pro.

The A610 features a large LCD screen with an astonishing 115,000 pixels of resolution. So whether you're setting up your shot or playing it back, everything is bright and clear. The vari-angle design lets you swivel the LCD screen 180 degrees to the front of the camera and display either a mirror image or a non-reversed image so you can shoot from just about any position. It also features a steady grip for better handling and Mode Dial for easy access to 20 shooting modes, including 8 special scene modes that give you breathtaking, exhilarating pictures even when shooting conditions are tough.

The A610 is powered by Canon's DIGIC II Image Processor. Designed to improve processing speed and image quality, DIGIC II provides markedly faster camera startup, autofocus and playback, plus it assures that every image is more colorfully vibrant. Not only can you capture amazing stills, the A610 also enables you to record QVGA, 60 frames-per-second (fps) movies up to 1 minute. It also supports the USB 2.0 Hi-Speed standard, so you'll enjoy the highest possible data transfer speeds when using a USB 2.0 compatible computer.

When you're ready to print, the A610's Print/Share button makes direct printing easier than ever. Simply connect the camera to a Canon CP, SELPHY or PIXMA Photo Printer (sold separately) or any PictBridge compatible photo printer (sold separately), press the lighted Print/Share button and print. You can also use the Print/Share button to transfer images directly to a computer. The A610 has all of the high-end features you want at a price you can afford.

4 of 5 Fills most needs in a digital camera Friday, July 07, 2006
A Customer from van wert ohio

I was in need of a new diital camera. I had a hp 315 2 meg.camera. I was Happy with my canon digital video camera, so I thought I would go with a canon digital camera. I was not disappointed. This Camera Has simply controls for a novice as will more advance controls. Many of the features I will not use.I was surpise that the view finder zoom in and out with the lens. The pictures from this camera are great. The Digital movies are good. If you buy this camera make sure you buy a sd card with it the 16 meg card with it is only good for a few pictures.

5 of 5 Great bang for the buck! Tuesday, June 27, 2006
A Customer from IN
After researching for a while, I decided to go with this camera. It didn't dissappoint me, the 5 megapixels are plenty for any picture I need to take. Prints come out clear and detailed. Battery life is awesome! I have taken almost 1500 pictures and numerous videos and only changed the batteries 3 times.

4 of 5 Good camera but can be improved upon Saturday, June 24, 2006
Damon from Lake Charleston, FL
This camera has many excellent points like quick and accurate focusing and an unbelievable movie mode. This camera is also a bargain at the price. Since it uses AA batteries you will always have a cheap battery source and the picture quality is solid. It does have a few areas where it falls short. Red eye is a significant problem in night shots. In auto mode ISO information is not recorded so it makes it difficult to manually adjust ISO. There is no sensor mapping function so expect this camera to have a limited lifespan unless you like red dots in your photos after a few years. All in all I'd say this is a great value for a digital camera for basic photography and some experienced users who want a capable small camera. The movie mode has almost made camcorders obsolete.

5 of 5 IDEAL camera for eBay sellers! Monday, June 12, 2006
Nancy H. from Wheaton, IL
I sell vintage and collectible pins on eBay and need a camera with a good close-up setting. Boy does this one ever suit my needs! I haven't been this happy with a camera since I upgraded from the Canon A-80. The movable LCD screen is invaluable to me, too, when I want to get photos at odd angles. My eBay sales have increased and I get lots of emails from bidders just to tell me how well they like my photos! That speaks for itself.

5 of 5 Outstanding Camera Thursday, May 11, 2006
A Customer from Cranston, RI
This is the first digital camera I purchased. Has a lot of features that I probably will take some time to master. However, its easy to use with the auto function. Quality of photos are really nice. For the price it is an excellent camera.

5 of 5 Nice camera, but one complaint Sunday, April 16, 2006
xiaofan zhang from College Station, TX
Overall, it's a very nice camera. I do not want to tell more about the good things because it is enough from other people. Only complaint I have is that I cannot embed the date on the photo when the resolution is higher than 2M pixels. Only at the "postcard" setting, you can add the date. for other higher resolution, you cannot do that. It's not good for me because I want to know when I took the photo for my kids. Hope Canon can have some patches to fix this flaw.

5 of 5 Great Camera! Sunday, March 19, 2006
KGForce from Tucson, AZ
I was fed up with my old Nikon Coolpix 990 (3.2MP) camera... it was great for it's day, but now it's too slow! I kept missing all the great shots of my kids because it took so long to actually take a photo, and just as long between shots. I did my research and decided on the Canon Powershot A610. I have been very pleased! It's super-fast, and takes beautiful photos. It's small enough and easy enough for anyone to use, but it has some features/options that makes it possible to take even better pictures. I wish it came with a larger SD card (16MB is a joke!) and a charger/rechargeable batteries... but I can't complain too much for the price. I bought a fast 2GB SD Card (133x) and a some rechargeable batteries/charger and they work great. If you get this camera, invest in a FAST SD card... you won't be disappointed!

5 of 5 Outstanding Thursday, November 10, 2005
Charles P. from Seminole, Fl
This camera has exceeded my expectations. The flash at night is incredible at both 10 ft and 20ft. The pictures are clear, free from any blur (so far), and are vibrant in color. It comes with a number of features and yet it is still incredibly easy to use. Start up from pressing the power button to seeing a picture on the display is within a second, you'll never have an excuse for missing a picture again, other than forgetting the camera at home or something ;) This is definitely a camera I'd recommend to anyone.
