5 of 5 canon printer & buy.com Tuesday, May 06, 2008 A Customer from Hammonton, NJ
First of all I want to say that this was the fastest I have ever gotten anything delivered from an online company. I ordered it on a monday & got it the next day & that was without any kind of special shipping.
Secondly this printer is a pleasure to work with. It lived up to all of the good reviews. It is fast & prints beautifully. I am always impressed with the quality of canon products.
Thank you Canon & Buy.com Was this review helpful?
2 of 5 fax interrupts voice calls Friday, May 02, 2008 Ron B from West Seneca NY
If you get one the first machines put on the retail shelf, the fax will definetly interrupt voice calls. You will know this by doing a data print-out of the machine and the ROM version in the upper left corner of page one comes up as less than 1.08. The sensitivty level of the machine was set too low. This was confirmed by a Canon Technician. It can be fixed by a certified Canon tech in your area with no guarantee that it's under warranty or you can receive a replacement (refurbished) machine from Canon if still under the one year warranty. Even though Canon admits the machine was defective when put on the shelf, they will not give you a new machine as a replacement. My suggestion is to NOT buy a Canon product as they don't stand behind their product even when they are at fault or have messed up in the manufacturing of their product. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great Value Thursday, April 17, 2008 A Customer from Dallas, TX
I bought this Multifunction printer for its networking capacity. For advance network geeks, " it does not support TCP-IP port ". It will create its own port but you need to install it with usb cable first, than with the aid of the Software CD which comes with, you may set up your other PC's. Printing and scanning works fine I was not able to test fax option yet but I have no doubt. With this price it is a steal. Was this review helpful?

So far I've only used the copy and print options (via network) and it's worked very well. It's everything I expected it to be. Was this review helpful?

Definitely follow the user guide to network it. I took advantage of the other reviews here and set it up with the USB cable first, before networking it as was suggested by another reviewer. While it seemed odd to do that, it was the way to go. Adding other computers to it was seamless. Print quality is OK for an inkjet. If you want better quality spend another 200 and buy a laser jet. But for what we print it is adequate. For the price it does the job quietly and fairly quickly. Ink refills are pretty cheap as it uses a multi cartridge system. I would recommend this printer. 5 of 5 Excellent product Tuesday, March 11, 2008 A Customer from New York, NY
Love this canon; easy to use, a little slow in scanning and in two sided printing but otherwise it is a great buy. Bought it for work will be getting another for home. Was this review helpful?

Just got my MX700 yesterday. Overall, the printer looks great and came with all the bells and whistles I'm looking for. Just a few things that kept it from being a perfect printer. The front paper feeder is almost hidden and hard to place the paper in. Scan function works well, but the image quality is not as good as my HP K80. And lastly, it's louder than my K80. Other than that, everything functions great. Was this review helpful?

Canon is the BEST printer on the market, I was only waiting for a printer with Network ability, so when the MX700 came to the market I knew I had to buy it. The network setup was very easy, the print quality is outstanding, I very pleased with this purchase. Needless to say the shipping was super FAST, the price was the lowest, thanks to BUY.COM! 3 of 5 Paper Jams in front tray Saturday, December 29, 2007 A Customer from Westchester, NY
Paper started jamming in the front tray from the second days use. Fax apparently wants to use the front tray to print receipt so this interferes with the fax function as well. Color and BW copies are not as bright as expected on regualar paper, haven't tried photo paper. Scanner works well, we have not tried ethernet connectivity yet. Due to Buy.com's policy we can't return this defective product which was purchased as a gift only 3 weeks ago. If everything worked as it should have this printer would be a great value for the money. Was this review helpful?

This printer/copier/scanner/fax works well and best of all has individual color cartridges. The cartridges are the least expensive on the market and if you run out of red and still have blue and yellow, you just replace the red and not the whole cartridge. The the next model down is cheaper but you have to buy the combination color cartridges. Spend the extra dollars and get the MX700, it is worth the extra cost in cartridge savings alone Was this review helpful?
2 of 2 customers found this review helpful. 2 of 5 Looks Great but a Big Disappointment Monday, December 24, 2007 A Customer from Philadelphia, PA
I normally do not review products but I was so surprised by the problems that I had with this that I had to write something. Upon initial inspection the printer looked great it has all the bells and whistles for someone like me who needs only medium to minor office capablilites at home. The printer even has two paper feed options: front (default) or back. I quickly discovered however after multiple jams using the small almost conceiled front paper tray that I could only use the rear feeder.
Also the faxing although easy to use was lacking. It did not provide a confirmation page and although I set it not to pickup until 8 rings or more it frequently went off in the middle of my wife's conversations. I was reading online and it appears that this may acutally be a known problem!
Even with these two issues I still tried to keep the printer. The last straw for me occured when I tried to copy a photo using the machine. It copied and printed my photos but the quality was horrible. This really surprised me since I have a Canon i470d and it always printed my photos very well. After testing the same photo on another printer (epson 8400) and seeing dramatically different results I decided that enough was enough.
Pros: Looks great, loaded with features, easily attaches to network.
Cons: Small front feed tray, jammed multiple times from front, fax is too basic, phantom fax pickups, bad photo printing Was this review helpful?
1 of 1 customers found this review helpful. 5 of 5 Excellent full-featured multi-function printer Thursday, December 20, 2007 A Customer from Bloomington, Illinois
Here are my overall impressions of the Canon MX700:
Scanning Software:
The MP Navigator EX software is a little confusing at first. To get to the more advanced functions, make sure to click on the Use the scanner drive checkbox. I have used the removing dust and scratches, fading (color) correction, and backlight correction settings a few times and Im encouraged, especially with the color correction.
Scanning photographs was easy enough once I got everything setup the way I like it. With a wired Ethernet connection, scanning a 4x6 inch color photograph took about 10 seconds at 300 dpi and 30 seconds at 600 dpi.
A feature I really like is multi-crop. This feature allows for placing more than one item on the platen, selecting each individual photo, and then only scan once. The MX700 creates individual image file for each photograph.
Copy/Printing Functions:
There are various copier functions such as reducing/enlarging, copying with fade restoration, but my favorite is Frame Erase. Frame Erase eliminates the black border around a copy when the item copied (e.g. a book page) is too bulky to close the lid. I havent given the printer a big job or used the built-in memory but a small job is printed quickly and the text looks good.
Copying a document using the Automatic Document Feeder:
From a cold start, it took about 45 seconds before the printer actually started to print the three-page document. The yellow-highlighted portions on the copy appeared a bit grainy when compared to the original. This occurred in both standard and high quality mode. For my purposes, the copy was very acceptable.
I printed, not copied, the same document with the yellow highlighting in standard mode and it looked much better than the copied version. In fact, the printed page looked exceptionally good. From pushing the print button to the printer starting to print the page took about 10 seconds.
Networking:
I had trouble with setting up the network using the Ethernet connection (cable not included) with a wireless router. I dont understand why I had to first set-up a USB connection (USB cable not provided). Canons Technical Support department promptly replied to my request for help (within 24 hours) in setting up the printer with a wireless router by stating they only support Canon products and recommended I spend $100 on the Silex C-6700WG Print server. Ridiculous. I discovered the actual solution was to temporarily disable the firewall in Norton Internet. After the MX700 initially connected, I re-enabled the firewall and all is well. I definitely dont appreciate Canon trying to get me to buy an unnecessary product!
Facsimile:
I dont plan to use the Fax function often but, on occasion, the ability to fax something has proven to be useful.
Summary:
All in all I am very pleased with the MX700. It offers a good value proposition between price, quality, and features. Buy.coms price and free shipping cinched the deal. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Impressive!!!!! Wednesday, December 19, 2007 jimalooman@hotmail.com from Holland MI
It was my first encounter w/ Buy.com and impressive every which way. Even tho i chose free shipping the printer was delivered in 23 hours after order (w/ the CHRISTmas rush even). And you can see how i rated the MX700 -- I read a lot of reviews on Canon and the competition and this one does it all for our family. Great color, reasonable speed, and very good resolution
Thanx Buy.com Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Very Satisfied Tuesday, December 18, 2007 Larry from Littleton, CO
The printer works well in both black/white and color. The document feed has functioned with no hang-ups, and the pages are printed at a good speed. I think it is a good value for the price I paid for it which was during a special sale. I haven't tried printing directly from a memory card yet, nor have I tried to use anything other than normal copy paper, but from all appearances and indications it should be a very good printer for my home office needs. 5 of 5 So far, so good Tuesday, December 18, 2007 vbfaker from Galena, Ohio
We have been using this machine for a couple of weeks now and so far it has worked as advertised. We have used the print, scan, and copy functions. Since we no longer have a land line I have no idea how well the fax function works.
I had to mark it down a little on ease of use because of two things:
1) The network setup requires a USB connection to the first PC and MAC. Supposedly you can then add additional PCs and/or Macs with only the network connection but we have only one of each so I couldn't try that feature. It would be more friendly if they could somehow eliminate the redundant connection for setup.
2) The copy function is overly complex. You have to press 3 buttons (Copy, OK, and Black/Color) to make a simple copy. They should be able to eliminate at least the OK button by assuming the existing settings are 'OK' if we go straight to the Black/Color buttons. It also makes some logical sense to assume we want to Copy if we press the Black/Color choice so it could theoretically get down to one button copying. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Easy network set-up! Thursday, December 13, 2007 Dan from Hillsdale, MI
The set-up for this printer on my home network was very simple. Assuming your network is already complete, adding this printer is a snap through the provided software. It prints high quality photos and the speed and quality on your regular prints is great. Well worth the money so far! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Fast Prints and Scans that Look Great Tuesday, December 11, 2007 karld1@yahoo.com from Claysburg, PA
I'm a home user with a network and I wanted a scanner and printer that had the ability to plug into my network instead of hooking it up to one PC and sharing it. However, I also wanted something that would print nice photos. Canon's home/photo line-up seems to lack any networkable printers. I was pleased to find that even though the MX700 is a small/home-business class device, it still prints great photos. I also had my doubts about how scanning across the network would be implemented, but the Canon software makes it a seamless process. This device has quality construction and a really nice feel compared with the sub $100 HP and Lexmark stuff you see advertised frequently. There is a lot of great stuff in the software/drivers that come with the device, and it is not overly-obtrusive like some of the HP stuff can be, especially if you opt out of the photo editing software they provide. There are a lot of different interfaces, options, and methods of scanning which may be desired by more advanced users, but could lead to confusion amongst novices. Furthermore, all the documentation seems to be very thorough, but difficult to search and read. For example, for me (DHCP), setting up the printer on the network was as simple as plugging it in and installing the drivers on my PCs. However, they have a manual dedicated just to this. More focus on concise and to-the-point documentation would be appreciated, with detailed, searchable info available online or on media. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Very nice printer Tuesday, December 11, 2007 Bill from Cadillac, MI
The printer prints very fast with good print quality. Setup on our home network was easy. The copy feature is convenient.
My only disappointment was that the utility software for OSX doesn't include all the features that the Windows software does. Features found under the Maintenance section for Windows don't seem to be available from OSX.
Still, I'm quite happy with it and would rate it as very good. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Excellent Value. Abundant Features. Monday, December 10, 2007 A Customer from Midwest U.S.A.
I bought this printer to replace my still working Canon MultiPass MP390 multifunction printer for three reasons:
1) Ethernet/network capable
2) Individual ink tanks
3) Paper tray (rather than paper sticking up at the top)
Other buying considerations:
1) Cnet.com editors gave it an 8.0 out of 10 score
2) Automatic document feeder
3) Fax capabilities
4) Made in Thailand not China (PRC)
5) Ink cost is competitive and uses the following tanks:
PGI-5BK Black (26ml)
CLI-8C Cyan (13ml)
CLI-8M Magenta (13ml)
CLI-8Y Yellow (13ml)

5 of 5 fast, feature-rich MX700 Monday, December 03, 2007 Kevin M from Colorado Springs
The Pixma MX700 has tons of features in one package. I use the ADF (auto document feeder) frequently, the FAX infrequently, then the scanner (which is decent, but not as good as a dedicated high-end scanner, although it can scan over the network), and the printer most of all. The print quality is equivalent to a midrange photo printer on photos, and is near-laser on text/grays. This printer is overpriced, but worth it when you factor in the Ethernet port, ADF, and high quality output. Copies are also very fast. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Great Deal Saturday, December 01, 2007 A Customer from Wilton, Connecticut
Good print speed and quality but has a little latency to get printing (still trying to figure out whether it is my LAN or the printer). This machine works much better than my antique Visiontek scanner, Panasonic fax and Lexmark Z52 printer. I brought this mainly because it is a Canon and can operate as a network printer (no need to attach to a PC). However, setup as a network device is a little tricky - I need to unplug the printer after setting it up and hook it up to my Window XP PC directly to enable the network feature - not covered in the quick start instruction!
One point worth mentioning - I ordered this on late Friday afteroon with free shipping. I was surprised to find this printer delivered early next morning (Saturady!). I have been using Buy.com regularly and been happy with their services. This is even better - the quickest free delivery I got so far. Can't ask for more! Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Does the job, good for the money Friday, November 30, 2007 eyedoclt from baltimore md
Bought this to replace separate HP printer and scanner from 1998, plus I need the fax capability. It does what it's supposed to do. I find that my old HP scanner has more functionality and options compared to the new Canon. Also, it takes an extra step to save scanned documents using the Canon. Maybe that's the trade-off for getting a multi-function unit. I have not printed photos yet, but I expect good quality based on CNET reviews. Also, it's a bit heavy, and takes up desk space--you're supposed to use the rear paper feed for photo paper. Setup was easy. Free shipping option was fast. I might lean towards HP next time. After using the MX700 for a week now, it is a big improvement over my HP all-in-one that barely lasted a year before breaking. The Canon SW seems superior (and less use of system resources). Print quality is excellent (B&W speed good, but not as fast as HP...color photo print is far superior though). Button layout is easy to use. Using on a home network, and after disabling Norton security, the SW was easy to load on all network PCs. I am having trouble with the fax - the fax picks up on all phone calls even though I've "disabled" it, but until I have a chance to work on it, I've simply unplugged the shared phone line since I don't fax often. I haven't tried scan yet, but based upon other functionality, I don't expect any issues. This is a much mo |
