2 of 5 Good print quality, poor reliability Friday, May 02, 2008
A Customer from Rockledge, FL
Purchased this printer expecting to "get what I paid for", but I never expected that the printer wouldn't last long enough to make it through a single ream of paper before failing. The print quality is really great for the money, but I am now on my second MP470. The first one failed after about 1 month complaining of a paper jam even though no paper could be found anywhere in it. Canon Support was very good about quickly sending a replacement, which I have now had for about 2 weeks. It is now failing in the same way - "Paper Jam". I have tested the printer on another computer and even without a computer connected and it still fails. Simply turning it on displays a Paper Jam warning. I have completely disassembled this printer and no paper jam can be found. This is likely a design flaw. I guess I'll be contacting Canon again....

5 of 5 Great printer/scanner/copier for the money.... Monday, April 07, 2008
Brian from Rochester Hills, MI
I got this bad boy for $68 delivered to my door, and I could not be happier. The printer takes a while to spit out images, but the results are nice. The scanner is very cool, along with the software that comes with it. It scans in color images and the text is very clear. The copy function works great as well. Great product for the price I paid. Only negative is the printer is kind of big, so will occupy some desk space. Worth the trouble, however.

5 of 5 An Excellent Printer for a Low Price Monday, April 07, 2008
A Customer from Ashland, MT
The Canon MP 470 printer is an excellent unit. It is a multi-function device with the ability to print, scan and copy. It reads camera memory cards and can read directly from properly equipped cameras. I use the printer primarily to print photos from my computer, which it does very nicely, and fast, too. The unit was easy to set up, Canon does a nice job with the setup software, I am using Windows XP Media edition, and the setup took about 15 minutes. The quick start instructions quickly guided me through the process. One caveat, no USB cable comes with this printer, so be sure to have one on hand. After setting up, I decided to try to print a photo. I went in to the properties for the printer, and was able to easily set it to print for the photo paper I was using. The photo printed quickly. I later dived into the properties to examine the options and soon found some enhancements that improved the picture quality. The inks used by Canon give the prints a warm cast, I don't know yet how expensive replacement inks will be. The printer uses 2 cartridges, a black and 3 colored color cartridge (#40 & 41). For the $68 I paid for this printer, it is a great bargain at an excellent price! I am very well satisfied with it.

5 of 5 very pleased Tuesday, March 11, 2008
Jim from Columbus,OH
purchased feb 2008. Photo printing is very good text is just as good. But after printing only 12-15 photos the color ink is half gone to me that is to much. The scanning is easy to use the program does everything for you. Over all I'm very happy with this purchase.

So far, everything seems good. It's easy to set up and easy to use. The print quality is good. Spooling takes a little longer than I would like, but once it starts to print, it goes quickly.

5 of 5 Great multifunction printer Sunday, February 10, 2008
Gerry Michel from Pittsburgh, PA.
Actually...all I was interested in was a "basic" printer for home use. ConsumerSearch.com rated it the "Best budget multifunction printer" and Buy.com had the best price...so it was a no-brainer. It was quite easy to set up (I'm somewhat PC-challenged) and seems to work great in the little printing, copying and scanning I've done in the week I've used it.

5 of 5 This thing is great! Tuesday, January 29, 2008
A Customer from The Pentagon
Not sure why people complain about the speed or the quality of this thing. When printing at top quality text looks like a laser and photos look perfect! We have only done about 23-30 of each but we are THRILLED with this purchase!

4 of 5 Overall nice... Saturday, January 12, 2008
A Customer from Cleveland, OH
I haven't done anything fancy with this machine, just simple copy and print jobs -- no pictures. Overall, seems to do a nice job. My only complaint is what I think is a design flaw -- the flip up LCD screen sometimes comes in contact with the document cover when its opened.

5 of 5 Great Printer Friday, January 04, 2008
A Customer from TX
This is a great little printer for the price! It is easy to set-up and operate. I bought a Cannon 3-in-1 a few years ago and it was almost $300 and had a much larger footprint.

4 of 5 PIXMA MP470 Saturday, December 15, 2007
P.L. from new york, NY
I have a HP all in one and the paper is begining to jam. I decided to replace it with the canon PIXMA MP470 since buy.com was selling it.It was easy to set up but do remember to buy a usb cable or make sure you have one at home. It did not come with a cable. It also came with a version of the omnipage software making it really easy to scan and save in pdf format. The print speed was a little slow but I am use to the snail pace of inkjet printers especially when you are trying to print in high quality. Overall it is a nice printer. The ink cartridge is almost the same price as the HP inks.So expect to pay HP prices for the ink cartridges.Overall I think it is a very nice buy for the price.

5 of 5 Excellent text quality, good scans, noisy Wednesday, December 12, 2007
A Customer from Eugene, OR
The MP470 is a superb value at under $90 and is a very flexible tool. It has excellent text output, decent photo output and a useful scanner/copier. <p>* Easy to set up and use * Great for home and school * There are better choices for business and photograhpy * A little noisy <p>Seriously, the text output is fantastic. I'm back in college and have had to print out over 1000 pages of PDF's for my classes this quarter. My workhorse 4-yr old Canon i860 printer was fast and could use cheap non-OEM inks but it often made for very hard reading which wasn't worthwhile. This quality of the MP470's text on plain paper rivals that of the HP 5000-series Laserjets at work. <p>I seem to average a little over 220 pages of text (which includes images) from the CL40 black ink cartridge. That's nearly 9 per page, which is not spectacular. For general use I prefer printers which use two cartridges (one black, the other tricolor) as opposed to 4,5, or 6+. It may cost a little more but it's so much easier to keep track of spare cartridges you will inevitably have to keep on hand. <p>The LCD is easy to read and the media card slots are handy but as someone who uses Photoshop to at least sharpen the images I print, the card slots aren't used much at all. <p>The scanner is OK, not great but not bad. Documents scan and print clearly, photo's are OK. I have a Canoscan 8400 and it's much faster and accurate but it cost twice as much as the MP470. I think for school and household use, the scanner is fine. For serious photo scanning, a dedicated scanner will be much better. <p>My one criticism of this printer is the noise. Not as loud as dot-matrix but it's louder than any printer I've used, including the MP160 (which my partner uses for her work). There is a quiet mode with a timer, so you can make the printer quieter (and slower) during certain hours of the day. Scanning can't be quieted, though. <p>I have a certain disdain for all inkjet printer manufacturers for adopting the "Gillette" model; sell the product near cost and earn the profit on the consumables. Not only is this deceptive model for the purchaser of a printer but I think it encourages waste by making many printers 'disposable' compared to the cost of ink. My 2... Having said that, Canon seems to be the best of the bunch right now. Due to their design, Epson has head-clogging issues and higher per-page output cost. HP has very lightfast ink but their non-business models always have paper handling issues. Lexmark is undistinguished (and Dell inkjets are just Lexmark printers that have no Mac compatibility).

5 of 5 Great Quality for the Price! Tuesday, December 11, 2007
Beth from Aurora, IL
Word of warning... the printer does NOT come with a USB cable, so be forewarned if you are planning on hooking this up to your computer. Printer was easy to set up and compared to others in it's price range it has great quality and performance. Good quality printout from web pages, scanner worked well and picked up the detail on the page that we copied and printed. Using the memory card to print pictures was easy to do. Could also copy pictures from the memory card in the printer to the PC, so an extra card reader/cable is not needed. Print was drug store quality. Overall pleased with the printer!

5 of 5 Excellent Value Saturday, December 08, 2007
A Customer from Tampa Bay, FL
bought this on black friday to replace a worn out Canon printer. It's a slight bit slower than our old one, and were not too happy that canon is making most printers with consolidated color ink tanks now, but the printing quality and machine build quality are excellent. For the price we paid, this is an excellent deal and buy.com has always been great to deal with.

4 of 5 Great deal!! Friday, December 07, 2007
A Customer from Morris Plains, NJ
I got this all-in-one printer for a great price (thanks to Black Friday!!). A very handy unit, quite compact, might look slightly bigger that some other printers in this range, but is actually pretty light. And looks pretty sleak too. So far so good with the performance. The scanning is not the greatest, but it definitely gets the job done quite nicely. The installation s/w was actually pretty easy to follow too. The only thing -ve that I'd like to point out is that the unit does not come with a USB cable, which is an absolute necessity. I had go to circuit-city to get that.

5 of 5 Best photo printer for the money I've seen Thursday, November 29, 2007
Justin from Minneapolis, MN
My wife has been bugging me for a photo printer, and I saw this guy for 68.99 on buy.com, and decided to go for it. The printer is awesome, and it prints excellent photos, text and graphics. The bundled software that Canon includes for photo printing is excellent as well, and makes it very easy to print the way you want. My only real gripe is that the default scanning software they included (some OCR type program) is super complicated. AfterI dug around the disc, I found that they had a much simpler utility included for scanning and all was good.

5 of 5 Canon PIXMA MP470 Wednesday, November 28, 2007
Dan O'Connor from Springfield, PA
Great product. Needed to get a new printer as Vista wouldn't work with my old Epson, and I wanted a flatbed scanner to use for copying old family photos. All features work well. My kids are happy that they can once again print out their homework assignments. Great product for home usage!

5 of 5 Excellent Photo Multifunction for the money! Thursday, November 08, 2007
A Customer from Minneapolis, MN
For $68 shipped, I have never seen a better deal for a quality photo printer. The 4x6's on gloss paper look better than anything I've ever had printed from a kiosk or shutterfly. The only gripe I have is the bundled scanning software isn't real intuitive. I did discover that there is a canon utility on the included disc (that didn't install w/ the "easy" installation) that works much better. The bundled photo printing software is the easiest i've used, and makes this a great deal.

4 of 5 Canon MP 470 printer Tuesday, September 25, 2007
Lou from Westfield, New Jersey
I bought the Canon MP 470 to replace a new Kodak Easyshare that I couldn't stand using. While fumbling with the sluggish and awkward software, it corrupted my CDROM driver. The Canon was easy to unpack and install, if you have a USB cable laying around. The installation materials lacked detail to allow speedy ink reservoir installation. The paper setup and loading using the LCD panel was similarly poke and hope. You must set the paper type (matte, glossy, Pro, etc) before you can print. Since I bought the Canon primarily for 4x6 prints, I have not attempted to have two media sizes installed at the same time. The print's color accuracy and saturation is decent, but not great (compared to my PC's LCD screen display). It is fairly quiet. The type of photo paper being used may require an adjustment to printer chroma values, which I found odd. I also could not find (on-line lookup) the exact settings for the "everyday" Kodak paper I picked up at Staples, so I picked something close and that was apparently OK. Canon's "Print Wizard" is a good idea, but they could explain it's functions and options better. The photo fix-up functions are not particularly flexible or effective. I suggest using another photo program to edit, crop, and size the files and then print straight through. On the few dozen 5 MP JPEG files that I have printed so far, I feel it is adequate for my needs. For the price, it produces decent prints. It does not produce prints as visually pleasing as Moto-Photo's are from my Panasonic camera, if that is a fair comparison. But, it's what I was previously doing to get 4x6s printed. I am satisfied with the printer overall for my home 4x6s.
