5 of 5 Best Printer Ever Owned Tuesday, February 24, 2009
    Dylan from Mississauga, ON

INTRODUCTION: For two years I had to suffer with the poor quality of the Lexmark X5470. The first Lexmark printer kept giving me a false paper jam message after a mere 7 months and wouldn't go away so I used my warranty and I was sent another X5470. The replacement printer after around the same time frame started crumpling up the paper each time I went to print or copy and the printer program froze on my pc. Unfortunately my warranty has expired and there was nothing I could really do concerning the printer. I ended up talking to a lot of friends and people and they told me that they all have had problems with Lexmark and ended up converting to Canon Printers and they couldn't have been happier. I ended up doing some research this time, and the first printer I saw was the Canon Image Class MF4370dn. I instantly fell in love with this printer and all the features and I knew I had to have it. Every where I phoned and checked this printer was always out of stock and was only available online. Then finally after visiting my local staples it was in stock and I grabbed it instantly. INITIAL SETUP: When you setup this printer it looks very complicated because you have 6 books and some parts which need to be attached. But once you get down to it, there is really nothing to it, because there is only two essential books while the rest are just reprints in different languages. You have one book which is entirely a trouble shooter for the setup only, while the other book is there for the features of the printer and how to work it. This printer comes with the option to have a Wireless Network. This printer does not come with a USB cable which shouldn't be an issue because this is the case for most printers. PRINT/COPY: Once you have completed the setup, you'll just have too much fun working with this printer. It prints documents with in a second and the duplex printing just makes life alot easier. While previously with my lexmark I had to always flip the paper to the other side for the print job, this printer does it all for you with out a sweat. It also looks very professional because it comes with a cover for the paper tray, and the documents are recieved from inside the printer(the first opening of the two openings seen in the picture provided) so they aren't sticking out. FAXING: Faxing was the problem causer at first. Because I had the same number for my land line and my fax, I would keep hearing the noise of the fax over the phone. The instructions state how to fix that problem but you have to play around with the menu to figure out the proper setting. After that is fixed, it's smooth sailing from there and I had no further problems. I got the chance to actually fax some documents for my mother and the MF4370dn gives you feed back concerning the status of the fax or you can choose to view previous reports. Maybe this is a feature that all Fax machines have but my old lexmark never gave you any type of report to notify you if the fax was successful or not. SCANNING: So far I've only used this feature once and at first it can be slightly confusing. Initially the scan mode is in Network mode and you have to press scan again for it to go into USB mode. Then a small window pops up on your PC but nowhere on the printer does it indicate that. It left me clueless for a while until it dawned on me to check the PC, what’s worse is that if you have any current windows on your PC opened the scan message hides it self under all those windows which can be even more confusing. The Scanning feature could use some work but it's not that much of an issue for me since I rarely scan. ENERGY SAVER MODE: This is a mode which I believe all printers should start having, because the days of turning your printer on and off are over. When you don’t use the printer with in two minutes it goes on Energy saver mode. But when you are ready to print the printer automatically turns on. This was a huge time saver for me because with my old printers I would always forget to turn them on and would get continuous error messages. Canon really out did them selves with this feature. NETWORK: As for the Network function, I can't comment because I only use this for personal purposes and I use a USB connection to my PC. Overall I highly recommend this printer because not only does it come with all those great features but the printer blends in well with your Black PC. I wish I had gone the canon route all along instead of trusting Lexmark. Also who can forget how quiet this printer is!

4 of 5 Great printer -- but scanner needs USB connection. Saturday, January 17, 2009
    FQuad from Gurnee, IL
I purchased this printer to replace an InkJet all-on-one that I had for years. I simply didn’t need the color printer anymore (pictures are easier to print with online services) and I really wanted to be able to print from any computer on the network. So, the Canon imageCLASS MF4370dn seemed a great choice, for both the functionality and the price. So, here’s bottom line. **PROS**: Auto-duplex printing and scanning; certainly the price; network connectivity; energy-saver mode; print quality/speed; very easy to set up. **CONS**: Really, I have just one: The scanning mode. It really doesn’t work on the network. When I called Canon about this, they instructed me to use the USB mode (instead of the network mode) for the scanning; they had said that scanning is a bit too bandwidth heavy over a network. So, why offer it as an option? Doesn’t really matter, as the scanning mode is most needed at the PC anyway. Overall, this is a great all-in-one, but you need to have the printer connected near a PC (and not to a network alone) if you want to use the scanner.
